SBESTER'S PROFILE

I've been an active member for quite a few years now. I started my RMN career by releasing the Eden Legacy Trilogy of games (each entry took 4 months of nonstop work) within one year, and I've gradually shifted to creating other games as well. I now have 3 flagship series: Eden Legacy, Fragile Hearts, and Mafiosi (being remade for commercial release as Crime Opera). I'm pretty much solely focused on the Crime Opera series of visual novels right now, as my band and job currently take up most of my free time.

Currently working on
-Crime Opera Trilogy (Mafiosi 1, 2, & 3 edited, with all original resources)
-It's a secret...
Crime Opera II: The Floo...
The kids have grown up, and they're becoming quite dangerous.

New Project with RM2K/2K3?

RM2K and RM2K3 are better for:

1) ease of use - as in not having to deal with scripting. I would suggest it for all beginners.

2) oldschool nes type RPGs. There are a lot of them here, (see Generica, Dragon Fantasy), and I just happen to be making one now.

3) resources for those who are artistically challenged like myself. And lazy. There are just a whole lot more for these engines, although XP resources have been steadily growing over the years. I refuse to use VX until the charasets stop looking like overweight RM95 people.

Best RM Games you've Ever Played

I remember the third part was going to tie the two together, and then it got canceled. Then he was going to complete In the Name of the Rose as a standalone game... then LiquidMotionRPG disappeared from the internet forever?

Best RM Games you've Ever Played

And I swear I'll finish Dragon Fantasy one of these days. Seems that every time I start it up, a computer crash is only days away lol. It's cursed I tell you! Pretty damned good though.

Best RM Games you've Ever Played

Anyone remember the "In The Name of the Rose" demo? That one really showed promise in terms of progression... too bad it never got finished.

The Way was always a favorite of mine, never got far into the last episode though. I guess it just kinda wore off by then.

Also I'm surprised to see how many differing opinions there are about newer rm games, 5 years ago everyone had the same faves. I guess it shows that the rm community really is evolving into something great.

On a final note, I'd also like to voice my distaste for Aveyond. Yuck.

Party Size

The main problem with most rpg games, in my opinion, is the addition of new characters through noncommittal happenstance. Both in RM games and commercial ones, characters are brought into the story so randomly that it becomes impossible for the player to become interested in their past. It's a trend that just keeps on going, usually when there are more than four or five main characters.

I prefer when heroes have history with one another from the get-go. It immediately draws you in, especially when there's some sort of rivalry involved.

I also kinda hate it when the game begins with a full party. It can be alright from a gameplay point of view, but in terms of story, if that is your main focus, it sucks. There needs to be some kind of gradual evolution of the party.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Yakuza
Disgaea
Laxius Power 3 (I know... shut up)

Finished Games 2010

Suikoden 1 for the second time.
Gothic II, which is unbelievably good.
Megaman 1, 2, and 3

Almost about time to start up Sakura Taisen 2.

Your Most Disappointing Game?

Toss up between Wild Arms 4 (5 could be worse, I'll never know), and Deus Ex.

People praised Deus Ex for years, and when I finally played it, it was basically just another boring FPS.

Wild Arms 4 was just pathetic in every sense. Ruined one of my favorite franchises for me forever.
