Description

Halloween approaches and it's that time of year when we remember the dead and dying. This year, instead of the typical horror-fest, we're going to be doing something about the corpses mouldering in our backyards.

That is, those games we never got around to finishing but always said "One day..." about. It's time to grab a shovel, dig up a dead one and lay it on the slab. Let's Frankenstein this thing!

Aim
The aim of this event is to take an old game that hasn't been touched in a while and bring it back to life with the intention of finishing it by the end of the month.

Event Rules
- Pick a game that's been out of commission for a while. I'm not going to be picky about how long they've been dead, as long as you haven't been actively working on it in for a while, it'll count.
- Work on it with the intent to finish before the due date (3rd December).
- Post progress updates at least once a week until the end date. I'll talk about that a bit more below.
- Finish the game by the due date and submit it to this page.

Rewards
If you do not finish your game in time, you'll get a participation badge for taking part in the event. This will be a low MS reward, but there will be supplemented rewards for taking part. This badge requires that at least one progress update badge to unlock.

If you actually complete the game and submit it to the site by the due date, you'll also get a badge. This badge requires at least two progress update badges to unlock.

Each of the four progress updates will net you a different badge and these will give you a tidy amount of MS too, so if you're not sure that you'll be able to finish your game in time, aim to take part in them!

Progress Updates
Over the course of the month (roughly once a week) you'll be asked for an update on your progress. Each time you'll be asked for something different - whether it be screenshots of current work, details of changed/finished components or other information.

To earn either of the main badges you must take part in some of these (not all of them, but it's encouraged that you do take part). You will be encouraged to give feedback to each other and post WIP pieces as well as finished stuff, so that everyone can keep abreast of how each other is doing. We're a community of developers, after all, even if it's just a hobby for some, so interacting and helping each other grow and encouraging each other is definitely something to aim for!

There will also, over the month, be a room on the RMN discord for people to talk about this event in particular and how they're going with their games for it. I encourage everyone taking part to join up and mingle.

First Update: Choose the game you are going to use and make a list of things that need changing/fixing/doing.

Second Update: Show off new vs old images and tell us a bit about your game.

Third Update: Fill in the survey below.
What have you accomplished on your project thus far?

What unexpected challenges have you run into in reviving your game?

How far through making the game would you say you are, currently?

Now that you've actually started working on the game, do you think you'll finish in time?

Can you see any big challenges that you might have to deal with in order to complete the game?

Is there anything in particular that you'd need help with in order to get past these challenges?

Would you be willing to ask others to help you with these possible issues?

Fourth Update: Make a game page, show off a screenshot of something new (gameplay-wise) and tell us how the gammak goes.

Fifth Update: Make a blog post detailing what you've done since the start of this event to where you are now in the game.

SIXTH PROGRESS UPDATE: BEGIN

Add your game download to the site and have it tagged for testers. Then get someone to do a test of what you have. Post their notes here, then put up your game for reaslies and add it to this page before the 3rd

FAQs
Do we need to make a gamepage?
If you already have an existing gamepage you don't need to make another. However, if your game is not already on the site, then you will have to make a gamepage for it as it is a requirement for submitting the games this time.

I will be checking the queue fairly often over the course of the event, especially towards the end, so the sooner you get your gamepages in, the better. If you need help getting your gamepage accepted, just PM me (Liberty) and I can help you out a bit, but usually I'll be giving you the same information as I give in the notes when a gamepage is denied so make sure to check those first! Also, the information in this thread is very useful: https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/5673/

How do I submit?
You must have a gamepage that has been accepted to the site and upload a version of your game there first. Then make sure you've signed up to this event. After that, hit the Submit button in the top-right corner of this page and pick your game from the list.

Is there a limit on the age of the game?
Nope. All that matters is that you haven't touched it in a while.

Can I just remake one of my old games that didn't get finished?
Yes, actually. All that matters is that the game in question exists before this event and hasn't been touched in a while. How you bring it back to life is up to you. Whether that means remaking it from the ground up or taking a half-finished game and scaling it down to fit within the month is up to you.

What about a game that's complete but needs some bug fixes and/or edits? Will that count?
I'm afraid not. It's really not in the spirit of the event - that is, taking something that isn't complete and bringing it back from that shallow (or deep) grave in order to spring back to complete 'health' again.

Can I just make a new game instead?
Again, not really in the spirit of the event, so no. Sorry, maybe next time.

Teams? Multiple entries?
If you want to team up with someone to help revive your game, that's definitely a-okay. Aside from that, there are some games out there that started with groups and just died. If those people want to get back together and try to finish the game, that's all well and dandy too. And sometimes an artist might be helping one team and have their own game as well. That's why I've allowed both teaming and multiple entries.

In Search of Dragons (w/ Fomar0153 and Reverie_Raven)
Full blog post on gamepage >>here<<.

Progress update – Week1
Indrah - Revision of what was made, analysis of mess state (result=horrible). Plans for fixing. Write-up of new story flow to completion. Revision of resources and purge of unneeded scripts.
Fomar0153 – Revision of old project. Yank mostly everything out and start adapting systems and scripting new ones. Working on the rune and crafting system.
Reverie_Raven already made her post, but overall she keeps being a supportive godly assistant and feedbacker.

TO DO:
-EVERYTHING. Except mapping and some eventing.
No but seriously, on my end:
>Adapt all maps to new screen resolution (I forgot ACE has resolution for ANTS)
>Go through first half of the game (already made) with a fine tooth comb and rewrite as necessary.
>Write and event all the new bits. Motly a good chunk of the second half of the game.
>Yank and polish a lot of the old scripts I didn’t really need or use properly.
>(eventually) go over database and add flavor text or necessary balancing (once set in by Fomar).

Only if time allows (hah, I wish)
>Rework the older maps to a more decent standard
>Work in some more sidequests and possible an extra optional dungeon.
>POLISH, POLISH, POLISH

I’m bad at this, but that was more or less it. Goes without saying that if anyone wants to give us a hand with pretty much any aspect of dev, I’ll happily consider it, just ping me.

Seeing Fomar and Indra working on Dragons again is a bomb.

I'll see tomorrow, if I'm able to work on one of my more realistic projects (remaking Left Behind, finishing Burnt Ones).
I should have a list for Left Behind somewhere. So, that would make it the easiest solution. And I want it to be a better game.

Just wanted to double check: Can I revive a game that I never posted online anywhere? I was working on the Super Girl Squad anthologies and I finished one episode, and that was it.

I'm not talking about the SGS: Halloween Horror Game thing, that was a single special "episode". This is the actual game, with an actual completed episode. Never uploaded it, but put in quite a bit of work (all custom art), and I feel I could add a couple more episodes to this anthology before the end of the event. Is that cool? If so, I can post a list of what needs to be done.

Yeah, you can use a non-published game/demo.
Great! Here's what I've got.

Super Girl Squad

Description: This is the actual, legit SGS game I'm working on. The Halloween Board Game, a stand-alone title I made, was a special episode for the SGS series. This is the actual game, which is played in episodes not unlike a TV show. The player, upon reaching their hub, will be able to choose the episodes they'd like to play. So far I have Episode 0 - the tutorial episode - fully completed.

Each episode is its own self-contained story, and designed to be played in any order the player chooses. My goal is to make every episode playable in any order, so if a player gains a few more levels in episode 3, for example, they won't be overpowered in episode 2.

It's a light-hearted (mostly) JRPG that tells multiple stories about these three superheroes.

Here's what I've got done:
* Episode 0 completed.
* Fully custom art (minus some battle animations).
* A battle system that can be expanded on.
* Hub and episode system established so it can be continued indefinitely.

Here's what I'd like to do this month:

* Add at least two more episodes, hopefully up to four so I can stick a fork in it and be happy with what I've had completed. This is the most important and difficult part: I need four short-stories, people!
* Add more character sprites for a larger variety of NPCs.
* Update plug-ins and work on perfecting the battle system that's already in place.
* Find a plug-in that allows me to scale the enemies per episode, and tweak the system to where the player doesn't feel like they're stagnant.
* Add more monsters.
* Add more items, more skills, and more equipment to the game.

Long-term goals (most likely not during this event):
* Re-polish episode 0 some more, changing some of the dialogue and special effects.
* Expand on the tilesets I made to make them more multi-purpose. I've already got a lot of graphics in this project already, I just want to flesh them out even more so I can create almost any kind of content with them.
* Possibly add battle animations.

I'm super busy with a full-time job now, and looking at a second job in the meantime. I won't have a whole lot of free time on my hands to perfect this, but I'm gonna' try to do this when I catch a breather.
I've chosen to revive a game I haven't worked on since RMN's 10th birthday event ended. Don't know what to rename it yet for now but here's my to-do list:
-Change the aesthetic of the game (Mostly tilesets, sprites, enemy sprites, other minor graphics)
-Possibly change font
-Add enemies (Including the final boss)
-Add more skills
-Work on mapping the town, dungeon, and other maps
-Work on classes
-Edit weapons and armor
-Work on cutscenes and change the story
-Possibly edit sound effects
-Make title screen
-Remove old files in the game's folders
-After finishing all of the above, playtest the game and fix any bugs or mistakes
-Plan to finish the game on October 28th, as well as work on and submit the gamepage the day after.
I have two other games I still need to work on (my current main project and my entry for frogge's event), but one of my unfinished projects was just begging for an excuse to be worked on.
I had been working on Jello and the Valley of Duh for quite a few years during high school, but never quite reached the ending, despite working up at very least 7 chapters. Getting into SBARG (five years ago... ._.;) kinda sidetracked me away from it for a while, but now that's pretty much done with.
I just submitted the game page for it earlier so hopefully it should be accepted by morning, and then the real fun can begin. I don't expect to actually reach the ending by halloween, but I do expect to at least get through working on all of chapter seven: daring desert.
The main thing here being the Miraga Pyramid dungeon, the weirdo cave adventure beforehand, and the story stuff that's supposed to happen after the pyramid.
A thing that I'll need to keep in mind is the humor/seriousness level. Some points in this game have turned out quite uncharacteristically heavy compare to the far more lighthearted sections, plus the jokes.
Another thing is that I'm going to need to re-balance a lot of the encounters, since I did not know how to make a challenging battle, and quite frankly had no interest in it. The battle system was kinda vestigial as far as I was concerned back then. I just sorta wanted to see the characters I drew in my daily planner come to life on screen, with the stories and jokes I wrote for them.
That being said, I might wind up making an easy mode option where the player can just breeze through the battles with an overpowered weapon or something, if they don't want to face the challenge.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to this, and finally being able to share the world that had become a second home to me.
If anybody would like to help, I have a fun assignment. Drawing things in Mario Paint! PM me for details. Also I could always use testers.
This is random as all hell, but if anybody would like to provide a small service for me and my game, they could play Fire Emblem Gaiden and either rip the Bigle sprite and attack animation, or just send me a save file.
The first time they appear is at the very end of Chapter 4, and there's not enough time in October for me to bumrush my way there.

I've chosen to revive a game I haven't worked on since RMN's 10th birthday event ended.
Oh snap, I forgot I had actually started something for that. I even have some (shitty) sprites left over. Hmm, now I'm conflicted on whether I should revive that instead...

e: oh, I forgot that project gave me some programming trouble. I think I'll just save it for another time...
Hi guys! While I was working on "reviving" my game I got into kind of a doubt... My game is based on some true happened events and I had the doubt that maybe this kind of events are a bit too "disturbing" or something like that... Is it a problem? Should I choose to "revive" another game instead? Thanks in advance to whoever answers!
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.
