Gaming and game design are my hobbies. I've spent the most time with VX Ace and 2k3 (prior to Steam release), but the only thing I've ever finished anything with is 2k.

Psychology was my first degree, but being responsible for depressed kids was too stressful. So I got a Masters in Healthcare Management and now I'm responsible for depressed adults!

[Poll] A quick question about ads and RMN

1) would you be aghast at the prospect of a regular funding drive on RMN?

Not really. You could even throw in a yearly achievement so people could donate, say, $10 each year to get a new badge or something. Just to encourage donations. I haven't been able to donate since I've had like three surgeries/procedures to pay off, but there's always next year.

2) what are you thoughts on RMN selling their adspace directly to someone like Degica for them to hawk things you might actually want, like DLC or engines or whatever?

Indirect ad selling is the reason I use ad-blockers. I've seen things that are probably questionably legal pop up on some websites before I started using ad-blockers. So selling directly saves you from potential responsibility in the event of a hack, and looks much better. If I knew I was guaranteed to see RPG Maker-related ads, much like PlayStation or Xbox does with their home screen ads, then I probably wouldn't mind turning off my ad-blocker.

3) what about RMN selling their adspace directly to people to hawk their games and projects??

Love it. Love everything about it. Now when people show up in the forums and start advertising their unfinished Kickstarter-rejected commercial games and link to a totally different website you could just go "That will be $15 please."

Thread for the Creepy and Disturbing

I actually hate the Ocean House Hotel, yeah, at first it was pretty great but now every time I replay the game I have to go through this long and heavily scripted level with no means to skip it, I'm actually more scared of the part where you go to the snuff film studio and you are attacked by those monsters, the suspension is just great and because if you aren't careful you can easily die against them
Admittedly yeah, the replay factor isn't great; but the very first time I played it, I was genuinely scared and that doesn't happen to me often in video-games. The snuff sequence is suspense-filled, but it's not really scary; creepy though, for sure.

And I agree, fuck the sewers.

The first time I played through the game and encountered one of those female-looking things in the sewers I was on high alert for the rest of the night. I didn't find the Ocean House Hotel all that scary though. I was kind of expecting it to be over the top considering how the entire point of that quest was to get rid of a ghost.

Should I open my character testing up?

If you go and make it public testing, make sure you emphasize that it's a game mechanics test and not a finished product/beta test. That should help decrease any possible bashing for RTP usage, but I don't think you'll be able to completely eliminate that risk since there's always going to be somebody who either doesn't read the warning or reads it and just doesn't care.

I think most of us would understand that it's a gameplay and mechanics test if you went and uploaded it, but anybody who's here just to look at the games might not. If it's a really big concern for you, it might be better to just send out invites to people you think would be capable of looking past the graphics and purely at the gameplay.

Congratulations everybody! Now let's go finish the 2014 Calendar Quilt and break the record! RMN 2014 Pixel Quilt Calendar

RPGMaker.net Slack Group - Come discuss everything!

So we're now using the same messaging service as NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory... Gammak has come a long way.

I might sign up. I haven't decided whether or not I trust it yet. I bought an ottoman once during a two-day only sale and I still don't trust it to support me without collapsing.

SM4SH : For Hyrule & For Makerscore

I've still got a few For Hyrule and several For MS left, so I'll be on tomorrow night around 10 PM EST if anybody still has some matches they need to use up.

I can't promise much excitement in the MS tourney, but I can give you some pretty decent Hyrule rounds.

EDIT: Heading into For Hyrule now. And that's the last of them. Switching over to For MS.

I'm down to three For MS remaining. I'll be holding on to them probably for tomorrow night or Saturday.

SM4SH : For Hyrule & For Makerscore

I've still got another 5 Hyrules and several For MS games to go.

it ended as a no contest but it still counted as a match :'(

Yeah, I'm not super happy about how it ate up our match limit

I think I've found my spirit animal.

SM4SH : For Hyrule & For Makerscore

I think I'm done for now. Seven "For Hyrules" and a few MS matches is enough for one night. I'm decent when everybody is using Ganondorf but some of these people and their Jigglypuffs, man.
