Those northern lights are clearly from the wrong time of year, wrong time of day, and wrong part of the country, and not even partially localized in a kitchen.

There was a lot, so I don't remember what he said exactly, but to be honest it sounded to me like he was just encouraging you to get away from the bad things/people that make you sad or hurt you? Not sure if works or not, but it didn't sound like criticism or making fun to me. It was a long post, so I'm not sure if I misread it though. I'm not taking sides or anything, but just saying.

Part of the issue backtracking with poison is the threat of possible forced encounters jumping out, or that wolf that respawns on the only path back. If those were not there, I could at least make it back out to safety even if I'm out of HP or items.

[RMMV] How to execute battle commands immediately
Do you mean you want the skill to not do the "select target" step?
If it's a skill called Counter that targets "self", then maybe you could make it target "none" instead, and then add the Counter effect via some line of script? Something like self.addstate(x) etc but I don't know the RMMV equivalent.
