The Demo is Complete! :D

As one of the human scum who has decided to make people pay for my work, I understand the sentiment behind making your work free for people to enjoy. I also know that if I spend the rest of my life working in a go-nowhere job, then I'm going to lose my mind.

Game development takes a lot of time and skill. I think it's absolutely fine to charge people for that. If Unity decides to go commercial with this (or a future project), then more power to her. If it sells well and she can ditch her day job and develop more, we'll just get better and better stuff from her, and that's a really good thing.

As for the special edition idea, it really depends on what's changed in it. Outside of a big graphical overhaul (so that it looks different at a glance), my guess is that it won't sell well outside of the community.

Thanks!

@Punkitt: For a long time, I had kind of half-assed shadows here and there and I kept thinking, "This is something I really need to make consistent..." but I knew it would suck to go back and add them. Then Pizza saw one of my screenshots and said that some of the objects needed shadows to anchor them to the ground and I thought, "OH GOD, THEY CAN SEE MY FAILURES!" so I went back and added them. It only took about one awful day. The sprites were the hardest part because of all those damn frames of animation.

GRANDIA 2 -- WHAT'S WITH THE HATE?

Yeah, I remember people always liking this one. I thought it was pretty good! The story didn't really hook me, but most games disappoint in that department. The gameplay was a lot of fun, though. Also, I haven't played Grandia 3, but I did play Grandia Xtreme, which, despite the lame name, was decently fun because of its progression elements.

I actually think the first Grandia was the best in the series, though. The story/dialogue had its share of cheese, and it kind of fizzled out in the last third or so, but despite being a cliche, I felt like Justin oozed naivete and clear-eyed optimism to the point where he felt like a legit depiction of a kid going on an adventure for the first time, and the plot for the first half of the game reinforced that and it made me feel like I was a kid going on an adventure for the first time, and I loved that.

If drinking Pepsi is considered “common street trash” – what is it for drinking this:

Backwoods mountain man.

Pepsi? I didn't realize I was sharing the internet with common street trash.

I drink a couple cans of coke every day. If I don't have a coke (or sometimes tea) with lunch and dinner, I get a caffeine headache, and I'm too much of a wuss to go cold turkey, plus I like the taste too much.

Sickening Article about Game Development and the "Wage Slave" Attitude

I get where he's coming from to a degree. I mean, I do enjoy putting that much time into a game; my biggest problem with my workload is that it also involves another job, which I don't particularly care for. But, I can also see that the huge amount of time I spend on game development has had a major impact on my social life. It's not a big deal now, but I can feel the weight of myself aging, and I want to pursue a wife, kids, even just other hobbies like music--other areas of a happy and fulfilling existence besides work (even for something that I love). And, there's a lot of unfun parts to the game development process; there are so many different things that go into it that it's natural you'll enjoy some less than others.

Programming cutscenes is probably the most tedious part of gam mak for me. I don't know how some devs do it.

You are an odd duck

That's the same argument people at the park make when I quack at them for free bread.

I...love making cut scenes. It's one of my favorite parts of the process, really. I just hate how they're one of the last things I get to.

Music

I must be a decent composer because, yep, that's where the song plays. It also plays in Jimmy's house (the two areas are adjacent).
