My name's Kasey Ozymy. I'm a game designer from Texas. I made Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass and am currently working on Hymn to the Earless God.

RMN Youtube Channel Talent Search and Discussion
I'd love to see trailers for upcoming games on there. Can you set up playlists or something on youtube that redirect to videos on other channels? It would just be cool to have a centralized place for rpg maker trailers since they're so niche, and it could be another push for devs to get their games out there.
Race and Gender in Games
Yeah, shame is a terrible tactic for positive change. If it worked, fetishism wouldn't exist.
I feel like you're kind of making the point for the opposite camp with this example. Argh found the scene in question uncomfortable, and from what I've played of Luxaren Allure, Merel is pretty aggressive (which is fine in an anime kind of way, but it's not the most natural behavior). There are lots of moments in anime where I cringe because of that kind of relationship dynamic, and just about all of them are straight.
Accusing argh of homophobia is a pretty major charge, and it's coming from a lot of extrapolation on your part. I've had a decent amount of conversations with argh on some of my game pages, and I feel safe to say that they were making that comment based on an anti-molestation (edit: this isn't the right phrase, but I can't think of a better one--I hope my meaning is coming across) angle rather than a homophobic angle. I heavily encourage you to call them homophobic and see who feels ashamed by the end of that conversation.

3) if the issue was murky consent, I can assure you: I've played the game, the woman who is Shy and Unsure makes a decision to cuddle all on her own. There is no coercion or sexual assault happening here, and I am fucking militant when it comes to consent.
Like there was literally nothing about this scene that could be interpreted as Uncomfortable EXCEPT for the fact it involved two women. It's homophobia. Even if the person just doesn't like fluffy shoujo cuddle scenes: LA is clearly advertised as being ABOUT romantic relationships. Why did they feel the need to comment? Why do people never rudely comment on games with straight relationships that are super hamfisted and equally in your face? Again: the answer is HOMOPHOBIA.

Music
Added a new track: An Open Window.
The last track I shared could be a tough one to listen to, so I thought this time I'd share something warmer. Hope ya'll like it!

Yeah, FFT also encourages more experimentation because of your party size. I think that a lot of us were underwhelmed by FFV because our first real look at this class system came from FFT, which was a better implementation of it, and then we got the playstation FFV release. In historical context, though, it was a pretty awesome alternative to Dragon Quest's class system.
I agree with Kentona about the plot, too. Even FFIV, which was cheese city, had more relatable characters. The music was indeed pretty forgettable, too--except for Clash on the Big Bridge.
By the way, I like this thread a lot. FFV is flawed, and we're stressing the flaws, but it was still fun, and there's a lot to learn from it. I've been thinking about making threads like this for some lesser-known games, too. I played through Mystic Ark earlier this year and wanted to publicly dissect the hell out of it since it's got some really awesome aspects (and really terrible aspects), but I assumed I was probably the only person who had played the damn thing.

I think "choice is an illusion" is probably the wrong way of phrasing that. Maybe "progression is an illusion" is a better way to put it.
Besides the freelancer class, the only feeling of progression you get while working on other skills is the visual joy of seeing meters fill up and the extra skill, which is more often than not going to be filled with white magic, time magic, or 4x hit. Don't get me wrong--I think that it's a cool system, and it's a big inspiration for Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass's imagination system--but, yeah, there's not much encouragement to go for most of the classes except for a couple of gimmick dungeons and for grinding movers in the last level to improve your freelancers. The system would have been a lot cooler if the stat increases you get for job masteries were applied to you regardless of class change. Or, maybe, you could also get some of the utility skills as permanent passives from mastering classes like "equip ribbon" and "passage"--nothing game-breaking, but just an incentive to build all of the classes up.

Wha-what have I encouraged...
Jimmy and the Sunflower's expressions are killing me, man. Christ.
@SgtMettool: Damn! Did someone make a comment about the sentient box formerly known as Boxie or did you decide to change it unprovoked?

Ahahahaha, damn you, punkitt, you beautiful bastard.
That's it. It's going to be easier for me if I just change Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass to an Undertale fan game.

No, don't apologize--you're right on all counts, and I'm glad you're calling me out on this. You're also pegging some of the psychological reasons I don't want to change; I'm super stubborn about having to change my vision for a game that came out during my production, and it's going to be work changing it. Yeah, those are definitely reasons for my immediate revulsion to the idea of change, and I'm glad you're calling me out on that.
I'm going to heavily consider your suggestion. I can deal with the extra work--it's the pride thing that's getting in my way, and I should get around that. I'm a little worried about making the petals pointy, though, since it would make the flower less approachable, but I'll toy around with redesigning it--maybe making the petals thinner but still with rounded edges will work. A lot of this problem is in the field design; in battle, Flowey and the Sunflower look way different. There's a fear, too, that having ANY flower is going to illicit Flowey comparisons, but any kind of distance I can put between their designs will help.
Thank God I didn't make Jimmy turn into a goat.

I'm super flattered to be in your game, but I'm a girl ^^;;
I want to believe you, unity, but the sprite says you're a buff-ass demon man.
How long does it take you to make a game?
In order of existential terror:
Three weeks.
A month.
A month and some change.
Two years.
Looking like three to four years (I hope).
You start to get a good feeling for how long things take once you're really familiar with your work habits; since that two-year game was my first project, by the time I got on this site, I was pretty comfortable in that department.
