New Policies for 2014: A Public Service Announcement

author=Crystalgate
Just a note here, Max was not banned for criticizing a public figure. The question "How is criticizing a public figure (however poorly) grounds for banning based on the terms of service?" is a complete strawman.

Yeah, like I said later in my post, if he was banned for being a dick, then that's fine, and kentona's post makes that pretty clear. The confusion here is that Solitayre did cite this rule's thread in a conversation with Max that Max linked in the opening post. I mean, even if that exchange never happened, Max would probably bring it back to this and claim conspiracy, but I think in this case his tirade is partially justified because of the mixed reasons he's gotten. Also, I'd like to make sure that it's okay to call celebrities whores, as I've got some really sweet Mahatma Gandhi jokes I've been sitting on.

How is criticizing a public figure (however poorly) grounds for banning based on the terms of service? If the terms of service is about protecting users from being harassed, and the first post in this thread is designed to highlight that aspect of the terms of service, then citing this rule for Max's ban is wrong. It's a miscategorization.

If Max was banned based on him being a dick and derailing a thread with constant gamer gate horseshit, that's totally understandable, and I think if you told him that in the first place then he wouldn't have posted in this thread. I know that not expressing the exact reason for his ban seems like a silly point of contention, but, to Max, he's feeling like one of his core values is against the terms of service, so it's no wonder that he's flipping his shit.

New Policies for 2014: A Public Service Announcement

I'm a little hazy on this since I've been avoiding most discussions that Max gets riled up about, but was he actually harassing another user? The terms of service that keep being brought up say pretty explicitly that harassing other users is the issue here, but Max's rants tend to be towards Zoe Quinn or social justice warriors in general. Maybe I just missed something--sorry if that's the case.

What recently happened at my school...

I'm certainly not saying I was prone to making wise choices. But I think disarming someone with no gun training is certainly possible, and I probably would've gone and tried. I mean, it would be worth trying, right? There would be other students in the classrooms, and I would certainly have a better chance than most of them.

I also was a fucking weeaboo ninja wannabe who owned a set of shurikens, so there's that.

Anyway, I'm guessing a decent handful of students showed up, saw the parking lot was empty, then turned around, drove home, and played video games all day. That's what I would have done.

Also, come on, figure out who the girl was. Your school is apparently an incestuous rumor mill, and it doesn't take a hard-boiled detective to figure out the one girl in school who mysteriously disappeared. Interesting story, though. Nothing like that every happened to my school, but I guess that's what happens when you live in a small suburb in Texas where nobody--scratch that, everyone has a gun. My dad has, like, five. Actually a more likely explanation is that school shootings are statistically unlikely, but the ones that do occur get international coverage which makes the problem seem like a horrible epidemic instead of a handful of crazy people being crazy.

The one bit of controversy in my school district was this girl who was forced to take off her pentacle and caused a big local media stink over it, but that was after I had graduated.

Born Under the Rain Review

Thanks so much for the review! I don't have much to say other than, "I'm really proud right now."

Born Under the Rain

@Kyubey: Glad you liked it! I'd let you place my soul into a magic crystal any day.

@Linkis: There's definitely a lot of complexity to the player skills, but easy mode should give you a lot of leeway. Plus, if you die, escape from battle, or win, your party gets a full restore, so there's nothing wrong with making a few mistakes.

Was there ever a script to change equipment during battle for VX?

Holy shit, a Jason Becker fan. I wish I could help a kindred spirit out, but I don't know much about scripts beyond googling them.

Akemi Homura plays Born under the rain

I'm glad you liked it enough to submit a let's play! It's always cool to see this kind of thing.

Born Under the Rain

Hey, thanks for the feedback, Shayoko! I just now saw the edited version of the post; I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@Makio: I should've mentioned this earlier, but working with your facesets was a blast; I felt like I got a lot of mileage out of them. Also, I'm the one responsible for frankensteining Masud's sprite together; he used to be a kobold and a guy with a cloak, so I had to do some edits to make the mask actually look like a mask instead of a dog head. Art's not my forte, so I'm glad he turned out alright!

For everyone else interested in playing: don't be afraid to go with the easy mode if battles are too lengthy. Easy mode gives a modest reduction to boss hp and normal enemy damage, but the only major reduction is in normal enemy hp, so if you're playing normal and finding the regular encounters to drag a bit, go with easy. You can change the difficulty at any time, so play around and pick the one that best suits you. Only go with hard mode if you're insane, though.

Born Under the Rain

Additionally, all the little issues I pointed out above are fixed. The current version is more or less finalized, barring unforeseen bugs and potentially some rebalancing/difficulty settings in the future.
