Changed the name so it's easier to find on Google - if you're looking for an old rpgmaker game, name it, describe it, we'll try to find it.

2017 UPDATE:With the Arrival/Return of TheGameArchivist, (and with permission from Darken) I've decided to overhaul
the Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic, for two very simple reasons:

1)SegNin hasn't been seen on RMN since 2013. So unless he returns one day, it's safe to assume, that most of the rpgmaker games that SegNin had are now gone, with him.

2)GamingGroundZero, one of the sites Darken listed as having old rpgmaker games is now gone. Someone has placed a robot.txt file on the domain, making it impossible to access through webarchive.org - GGZ is not just dead, It's like, it never existed.

I'd very much like to prevent such occurrences from happening again, in the future. I feel RPGmaker history is important, to not only those of us who've been working with it for more than 5 years, but for those who are picking up RPGMaker for the first time. I feel RPGMaker, like any other program, Adobe Photoshop, FinalCut Pro, Macromedia Flash, when used effectively can not only create commercial products, but products that can actually compete with commercial games - which is why I've decided to step in and manage this thread:

So, this topic is going to function the same as it did before, the minor exception is that, I'll be frequently checking in and updating the MasterList, while also updating missing links, new requests and making a personal backup copy of the games requested here for posterity's sake - So if one of our archivists does happen leave RMN, I'll have a backup copy on hand and will have it set up in such a way that it will allow for the least amount of involvement to gain access to.

My own personal advice: If there's anything I've learned over these past 10 years, it's that, nothing lasts forever - now more than ever, everyone is very easily and willing to forget the past, especially when it comes to media on the internet. So if you ever feel the urge to back something up, do it - because it might be gone tomorrow.

THE RARE/OBSCURE RM GAMES REQUEST TOPIC by Darken.

The purpose of this topic

It is obvious that RMN is now the biggest database for games made in RPG Maker, but since everything is user generated, there are obviously some games that do not make it on here. Once in awhile a famous RM game is mentioned in several discussions, someone might seach it out of curiosity only to be dissapointed that it's not on RMN. Perhaps you find a game on RMN, but the download link is broken? Trying to remember a game, but can't quite remember the title? This topic is for all of that. Feel free to even reminisce about the old RM games, just try not to go way off track. Anyway I hope this topic benefits people.

Requesting and you!

Before requesting a rare game or broken link, make sure it is listed somewhere (ctrl F is your friend) and check the sites. As for requesting a game for the title you can't remember, please explain in detail as much as possible and try to remember anything that sets it apart from other games.

Regarding broken links

Sadly, not enough people take advantage of RMN's hosting and decide to use rapidshit or something. These temporary upload sites delete their files from time to time due to inactiveness. If you notice a broken link on RMN (or even on this topic), try googling the game first, if you find the download for it, simply post a comment on said game with the link. If you do not however, simply request it here. Broken links on the this will be striked out, but even if one is, there's a good chance someone might have it lying on their hard drive.

Many of us have a lot of RPG Maker games. And it's not always easy to find or identify the ones we want, especially older ones with obscure titles or poorly abbreviated folder names. This utility will search any folder and its sub-folders for the existence of games from RPG Maker 2000 to RPG Maker VX Ace. It will also attempt the find the game's actual title, the application used to make the game, a title image, the number of maps, and some last modified dates to help with identifying the latest version of a particular game ---hedge1

Addtional Notes about Hosting

Some of you may have collected a lot of RM games over time making this topic perfect for you to contribute. It is not advisable to use free upload sites. While they are useful, I want to be able to make a reliable archive to stand the test of time. So if you have a host that would be cool. If the game you are uploading is very small in size, I suggest using RMN's handy locker feature. If you really are desperate and want to do a quick upload, please use anything but rapidshare (megaupload and mediafire is ok).

LBR: stick to using mediafire, or googledrive - Tau's copy of Homeland was taken down over a copyright issue on mediafire. Unless Google Drive's policy on hosting copyright content changes, it should be safe to use for hosting rpgmaker games - but only time will tell if these services will remain reliable.

2021 Update: So, times have changed. Starting Summer 2020, Google and Mediafire will start deleting content/accounts that have been inactive for more 2 years(GoogleDrive) or 8 months(MediaFire). In addition, on Mediafire, The ESA sends out DMCA take down notices for games that share similar file names to copyright material. i.e.: Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Need for Speed, Halo etc. They also restrict access to games that use copyrighted music. (Shadow of life link on media fire from old list) these services may no longer be ideal for preservation. I've since moved the current masterlist to mega.nz which provides a bit more storage space as well as file encryption, but unfortunately it's only available to Windows 7 users and above, however only time will tell if these services will remain reliable. Future efforts are going to be spent focusing towards working with rmarchiv.de and rm2k.net to create a reference library of rpgmaker games that new users will have access to.

If you have some hosting and want to host some big games feel free to help out, just make sure you warn us that you're unable to host anymore for whatever reason. Also, if you know the person who made the game that's not on RMN, persuade him/her to put it on RMN!

I think I still have a copy of that on my computer. I was one of the folks who helped test the game a lot. It was ultimately named Banana Nababa.

Thanks halibabical! Yeah, I downloaded Banana Nababa, a few days ago, after you mentioned it <3. I found it on archive.org (I believe it was part of gamingw's initiative to add their games to the archive.org - It still holds up actually!

I think I sunk maybe 3 hours into it, trying to get to the 3rd Boss; it's like the best parts of Contra but without the frustrating cheap deaths - like, each boss comes down to, memorizing what's the best way to maneuver around the level without getting hit.

But like, unlike Contra, it's easier, but intricate to figure out these movements - Like, it's actually a lot of fun and you get a new weapon after beating each boss. But ya, this is the first time I'm playing it and it still holds up!

There was that April fools prank that made everyone admin. (and made one subforum where people could actually use those "admin" powers)

I remember that, I also remember Esh, and also something about him becoming disenchanted with the film industry, shortly after finding work in it (I vaguely remember this). I think his icon was like, an Edward Norton-ish dude in a suit and tie I miss that dude - I can't remember why, but I think he moderated G&D for awhile before leaving GamingW.

I think Gaming World's demise sort of started when certain people who became prominent in the community, who actively disliked RPG Maker, had started pushing to make the site focus less on it. Ideally, not even at all. It was sort of strange since that's what the site had originally been built around, and I remember a lot of people (myself included) feeling alienated that RPG Maker users were being pushed aside/away. I recall, at one point, it was pretty much deemed okay for the members who didn't like RPG Maker to troll game topics in Game & Demo. Take fan games for example (a type of game that's always been close to my heart), I remember taking a bit of abuse and shit from other GW users because of what I would create (fan games). The whole atmosphere on the site was just becoming really awful and it's the reason why I left and joined RMN, even before it became SaltW.

I always felt like, in the last few years as Gaming World, the highly influential members appeared to want to do everything in their power to make GW into something it wasn't, and I think that's ultimately what led to the site just turning into... whatever the hell it is now. It was just so mismanaged towards the end that it was painful to watch.

RMN, while never as active as GW was in its peak, is still a superior site. The best part about RMN? Nothing is really flat out "shunned", more or less anything is encouraged because, here, creativity is key. The fact that we're all just doing what we love is what's important on RMN, and I'm glad that a lot of former GW members who seem to promote that same message are here as well.

this is excellent UPRC, Thank You! I think this perfectly summarizes, I think, how we all felt back then. I remember jumping back and forth between RRR and RMN for awhile because most of the activity and excitement that use to be on GamingW was now gone. It was a very weird feeling to be there afterwards, like not just the negativity that members would throw ontop of G&Ders, But that feeling, the idea that, the place that we all once knew and loved was now, somehow gone.

But yeah, I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled on this thread and hope someone will jump in and fill in what GamingW was like 2001-2005. Was it like, how RMN is now? was it more like GGZ? Like, it's hard to describe the atmosphere since I wasn't involved back then, but I remember sometimes browsing the site after school and wondering what kind games were on there back then.

Like, were the early years of GamingW more like the early years of Newgrounds? Like this "tough, but fair" mentality?:

Like, if you were talented, you were "okay" but if you weren't, you'd usually get pushed around by the trolls - but you'd also have the people who were going into like, the animation or music industry, mentors, people who were always very kind and helpful to other users, etc.

Was GamingW 2001-2005 more like that? Like, it's hard to nail down the atmosphere of early internet communities. Like if anyone remembers Pendako it was an early internet whiteboard drawing site - that the cover artists of PSM (The Unofficial PlayStation Magazine) hosted and sometimes would hang out on:



Like, sometimes you'd get the random internet troll at the odd hour, who'd randomly clear the board, which a moderator would then kick. But generally everyone was just happy to be there, being able to communicate and draw with people from Europe, Japan and all different parts of the world.

When Shirou and Yurika were kids , they were childhood friend . Shirou enjoys the sound from Yurika's piano every day . Yurika is a little girl who played piano and also composed her own songs when she was 9 years old , but one day she left him because of her family . Her family wants to take her come to Hiroshi Academy , a school founded for children who with ability play piano and compose their own songs . All students need to play piano by their own songs every week , it's kind of like a test . Shirou promised he will try learn piano to come in Hiroshi Academy by somehow and meets her there again
Shirou is a 15 years old and at least he's able play piano now but he can't compose a song . Finally he came to Hiroshi Academy by cheating with the power in his left eye to see the past another person , albeit only for 7 seconds when directly looking at someone in the past when they're writing a note of song so he can remember all note of song and things else . In case he has problem with someone who knows his acts as copy their song and make his own song by somehow , they're want to warn him but with the power in his right eye to see the future in 6 seconds to foresight their act . After all , he used too much power for own acts . He started feeling terrible headache and he had an accident then he need to be hospitalized . When he wake up , a terrible thing is happening to him that he saw everyone completely is black . He couldn't realize who is who and he need to find a solution how to cure his eyes.

(*you don't need to explain in detail, how Shirou's powers work in this description - you just need to explain enough so it sounds enticing to the reader - you explain how Shirou power's work through the story itself.)

-Now he can no longer make out who he sees, because everyone is dark.
-Will he ever be able to see Yurika again?

With this new unexplained gift, Shirou can now enter Hiroshi Academy by cheating. He uses his left eye, to look into the past to plagiarize other students work, while using his right eye, to see into the future in order to avoid detection and confrontation by his fellow students. But this power to see through time eventually catches up with Shirou. Now he can no longer make out who he sees, because everyone is dark. all he can make out are shadows.

Will he ever be able to see Yurika again?

Again, you'll want to sit down and revise this further so it sounds more natural.

But this actually sounds like it could make, a really cool adventure game/visual novel.
It has this Deathnote vibe to it; using supernatural powers with real life consequences.

Left Mouse Button, see 7 minutes into the past.
Right Mouse Button, see 7 minutes into the future.

Maybe, the player is sitting infront of a piano, (you can use the mouse to play piano keys)
and out of the corner of his eye is another student working hard on a composition

Like, every level, is a scenario where Shiro has to figure out a way to copy students musical compositions without
being detected and as a reward for completing the level, the player gets to hear the song that Shiro stole
as he progresses through Hiroshi Academy - it's like the potato chip thing!!

Figuring out how to not get caught - This is a really cool idea.

I'm afraid so, he hasn't been seen since 2013, (I use his profile as a shortcut to jump to this thread)

It sounds like when megaupload and sonicfile were taken down back in 2012, most of his games were taken down as well - I can't confirm this though.

He did frequent other sites like snesorama and emuparadise before then, but for the last 3 years it seems like he only visited RMN a few more times, before disappearing - That's why I grabbed what I could of the GGZ games awhile back.

But yeah, I follow Darken's sentiments - I don't know if I'll have the time, but I would definitely like to put some money towards this as well, so keep us posted.

But yeah, after seeing GamingW, RRR and GGZ disappear over the years, I've learned that once these things are gone, they're usually gone for good - there's only so much webarchive.org can do, before someone slaps a robot.txt on it - so It's important to get started on this now.
