The Highlander's Tomb (Team Forum RPG)

@seiromem:
I didn't post any actions in bold because I wasn't sure about doing any of it yet. I wanted to discuss our strategy with Gourdy first. Now that that is done, I'm ready to move on.

@Gourd_Clae:
Glad you think the plan is okay. Let's do this! Good luck sneaking past 50 Murkals, please don't die!

The next RPG Maker

BizarreMonkey, your second image is not showing, which makes the comparison less effective than it probably was intended to be.

It's funny how this discussion keeps coming up, though. I know there are people (like Liberty) who will think I'm crazy for actually liking this "dusty", "pretentious" or whatever you want to call it, style of XP. I'm certainly no authority on the field of art and graphics, and perhaps I'm just biased because it's the engine I have been using all this time. Still, I can't help but find the "artificiality" of the blockier VX and VX Ace tiles and characters generally less appealing.

Is my opinion here important? Probably not. But it does show something: Different people prefer different styles, and unless you are very good at scripting and/or art, all RPG Makers so far limited its users to one specific style. As far as I know, it's almost impossible to emulate an XP style in VX Ace or the other way round.
So, the next RPG Maker should have the in-built option to use different styles, patterns, templates, whatever, in order to let the user choose what kind of ressources they would like to make use of, without having to switch to a different program.

The Highlander's Tomb (Team Forum RPG)

But Gourd, if we do that, we would probably make them rain death upon Razuna and the other creatures, too. We're here to rescue him, after all, not kill him. Though you have a point, we might be able to use them...

How about we try stealth first, and if that doesn't work, we'll have to use violence. I had the following idea:
You (Bazyli) try to sneak into the cave using the moss and the groove in the wall. It should be no problem for you to stay hidden since you're small. I stay behind and load my crossbow with a special quartzine bolt. If you manage to reach the cage, you quietly notify Razuna and try to get him out of there. Should something go wrong and the Murkals notice you, I will immediately shoot the Murkal Boss right in the head (and hopefully kill him). If that does not cause enough confusion among the Murkals for you to escape, you will destroy the weakened cave wall with a spell so it breaks down upon the Murkals. If that's still not enough, you guys find cover and we'll try to get the stalactite monsters to fall down.
Sounds like a plan?

Yeah, I know there's probably a hundred ways this could go horribly wrong, but it's the best I can come up with. Feel free to suggest something better.

P.S.: I'm going to sleep now, so I won't be able to react quickly to what you post next, Sorry about that.

Master of the Wind

@Krolan:
The first number is the "position" of the second number: 21 means "1 is the second number", 42 means "2 is the fourth number" and so on. It's fairly simply if you think about it afterwards, but not as easy to come up with initially.

I can art now!

Neat! I haven't played Soul Sunder yet, but I'll definitely try it out as soon as you release a finished version. Good luck!

P.S.: Why are people who can make art always so self-critical? I wish I could draw half as well as you.

The Highlander's Tomb (Team Forum RPG)

Okay, sorry JJJ7. I try not to take the responsibities of the DM any more. ^_^

Hooray! No level grinding! This is getting better and better.
Well, it is a bit of an odd system, but it fits our playstyle and doesn't reward just running around murdering as much as possible. I approve.

Also, my lying skills are awesome! Unfortunately, I currently don't have the slightest idea what to do next. Suggestions, anyone (especially Gourd_Clae)?

The Highlander's Tomb (Team Forum RPG)

Uh, JJJ7... you know that seiromem literally just reminded you that Razuna has no idea Kairy and Bazyli have come to rescue you? You might want to rethink your action or at least wait until we've somehow notified Razuna of our presence.

Fundamental RPGology Thread

This thread is a great idea and I'll make sure to follow it closely!

I admit that so far, I have only played one entry (apart from my own), namely Delusions of Duty. While I didn't feel like all skills were equally useful, it was certainly a very interesting approach and good for an exciting battle. In short, I liked it.

Also, thanks for the kind words, Shinan. I know the documentation could and should have been much clearer, and I'm not entirely happy with some aspects of the current Campaign version myself. But I'm glad you found it somewhat interesting nonetheless.
Although it makes sense not to know details about enemies from a "realistic" point of view, you're right that this obscurity makes things less intuitive. I had originally planned to include an item that provides some general information about an enemy (no numbers, just tendencies), but I just didn't have the time to actually make it.

Anyway, I'm excited to hear who won, and I promise to try out some more of the submitted entries.

P.S.: Hasvers, since you linked to my entry in the Event locker instead of the gamepage, I wanted to ask if you could replace the link with this one. Thank you.

Edit: My game was accepted! :D

Good luck!

[Rm2k3] Best way to make a variable-comparing calculation?

bugmenot, that solution sounds a thousand times better than what I had in mind. I did not know this:

author=bugmenot
<> Change Variable: [0024:VC_Value] = Var[V[0021]] value

was possible in RM2K3. If such a function to call a variable ID specified by the value of another variable exists, that's a huge advantage. (I use RMXP which has no such function by default, so I was oblivious and wanted to do it all manually.)

s_w, just forget everything I suggested and use above solution.
