2010 gaming choice

Blizzard is part of a rare and dying breed of PC developers that makes no apologies and stands on the merits of its game content, which, for the most part, still derives from true inspiration and sheer will + high skill of the dev team. It doesn't need to rely on gimmicks, crappy but somehow highly addictive facebook social games, manipulative hype and marketing, or dubius-at-best business practices such as small paid downloadable content packs that could have/should have just been released with the game, or bundled together with more significant changes in an actual expansion pack.
Yeah, Blizzard dev's are pretty good, but at one con: Wait time. How long does it take for Blizzard to release a game? The wait is worth the reward, I suppose.
If say like 20 companies took as long as Blizzard to make their games, and the release dates were staggered in such a way that it makes it "feel" like they are coming out in relatively short time from each other then we can start appreciating really well built games.
I think it's also due in large part to the fact that Blizzard decided to hype SCII very early. I mean if TES5 got hype soon after TESIV, then we'd think it's taking forever since 2011 would be a 5th year after the older games release. But because they kept silent until the Game Awards this year, it makes it feel like I've just got one year to wait. And, "oh hey!" It's almost the new year!
Magix Music Creator
Cool, I could use this too because I advocate custom stuff in games, and while this may make cheesy sounds even if they sound good, it's likely you draw from a "canned" set of patterns that can be applied in any way you like. While I do make my own music for my games (after 2008), it takes a damn long time to make a one minute tune ~4-8 hours.
I could use this for filler music or for places that need a song used just once like a game over screen. People underestimate the amount of music that goes into RPG's!

Are savestates cheating?
author=drgn_lord50
If you use it to perfect something that occurs by chance or skill, then obviously it's cheating.
Cheating, as in what? (I'm not just targeting you, but I keep seeing the word cheating as if it means something). I don't find it so obvious.
I mean, cheating, as in what?
Are you having a good time?
Are you able to complete the game/task/mission?
What's this "cheating" going on? What? Or is it guilt? I think it's guilt, everybody say it with me. You probably feel guilty for not trying to do it the right way and instead use save states as a means to an end. Then when you do finally get to that end you realize you've used save states and you feel guilty of the action, not "cheated".
There is no such thing as cheating in any games.
And if you don't feel guilt, then don't worry. Save states are okay. But if you do feel guilt, stop using them.
Action battle character/sprite creation tool ?
author=lfcscouselad
Thanks for help magi.
A specific tool to create sprites for an action battle game is not completley stupid and pointless if what you are creating is an action battle game.
Magi meant that the work would be phenomenal. There's a lot that goes into action battle sprites. Most are ripped or custom drawn. I prefer custom drawn over rips, but whatever. Point is, you won't likely find one, and you won't likely see one anytime soon.

Best in PC for me was StarCraft II.
Best on xbox 360: Mass Effect 2.
I was going to say The Witcher for PC, but it kept crashing on me and the menu interfaces were mot 100% to my liking. But it is seriously a bad ass game. So I'll give it a runner up.

A new discovery with the sites images submissions.
Regardless if you weren't supposed to upload bmp's (I'm surprised you got that far, I'm pretty sure the website admin can choose to limit what you upload), game pages shouldn't crash like that.
The only fix I see is actually stopping people from uploading .bmp's.

Tips on Making Good Forests
author=LockeZ
(I'll note that the three tile rule is in full effect, haw haw!)
I know you're trying to be funny, but I don't think the 3 tile rule applies, that game actually breaks the rule by being too busy, thus proving that even very busy maps have a great sense of direction (thus proving the three tile rule a fallacy). It really comes down to a keen sense of what looks good. It's kinda easy to spot a too busy or cluttered map. The overlay in that screenshot is indeed kinda dark, but whatever. The music in that game is also damn gorgeous, and its also a heavy contributer to the "foresty" feel. Music and sound effects like birds chirping all add to the atmosphere.
Oh, but please don't use crappy bird sounds!!
Jump v3
It was an older game of mine pokemaniac. I tried to explain the instructions in the game description page here, which I thought people read. Because I know I didn't do it in game.
Holding ctrl and an arrow key makes you face in a direction, or you use the mouse to point in a direction. While the explanation wasn't trivial the controls are. :/
If you press the spacebar you jump (in the direction you face), or if you click the left mouse button (on any tile 2 squares away) you jump. Holding the left mouse button will just make you move in the direction the mouse is pointing.
What's so clumsy about the jumping? There's honestly no other way to make it more straightforward. I have both mouse and keyboard controls, and you jump one tile in the direction you face.
I think you gave up because you didn't know the controls, so I'm going to plea for your doing a second attempt, because I don't see much other than that at fault. Games' too damn simple to be clumsy or excruciatingly terrible. :/
