People need to start including instructions with scripts..

If the script is crashing and mentioning something about "the newest version of something" then I'd say that's one of the main problems. It's hardly besides the point.

What exactly is it asking for the newest version of? If you want help you should describe it at least a little.

I just went back and added some double outlining to this particular shot. I don't know if I completely like the way that it looks, but it definitely does pop more:

My main issue is that it doesn't look great on the characters, and I'm pretty much fixed on using the character template that I made for this project. I also think that it would tile weird with the trees, and wind up looking sort of muddy.

I think I'm leaning more towards adding more to the environment with this. I feel that the thin lines could work if the space had enough going on.

My main question was how much is too much and how far is too far?

I wouldn't say that you need to draw the line at using the work fuck, but it's your project. That seems kind of arbitrary, if a character is likely to say "fuck" then it should fit right in.

The main reason I'm drawing the line at "fuck" is so that I think very hard before crossing it. It CAN be used to great effect (nods at Vampire The Masquerade bloodlines), but used too often by too many guys and it just becomes noise. If I use it, I want it to mean something. Otherwise it's just another naughty word that'll make people zone out.

If most of the cast needs to swear for whatever reason, then make sure to be careful about it. You need to use it effectively in order to convey whatever mood you're going for, or else it'll really start accumulating and people won't even notice it happening in the dialogue. Either that or they'll brush you off as being childish, like you said.

Your situation about drawing the line at fuck should really just be applied to every curse word. Unless the whole point is that the character(s) swears like a machine gun, then there would be no point in throwing around curse words every three seconds.

If the writing calls for a character to swear, then why not, really? It's just as much of an issue as anything else in writing and dialogue, it just has to make sense, sound right, give the characters personality. Hell, there are some characters out there that swear in the majority of their dialogue in some way or another (like Tommy in GoodFellas), so it can definitely be used to great effect.

I'm against that kind of bullshit censorship in general, so it kind of bugs me when I expect a character to swear based on how I know them, and they just don't. Makes the whole scene feel off.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I got really excited at first because I thought those were original assets. It looks pretty good though. I would say to add some random objects but I don't know what those small areas would look like with NPC's, so I can't really advise more than boxes and barrels.

this place done for?

There are a lot of new faces around here, but for the most part the old regulars that I remember leaving aren't really a big deal. Almost all of the awesome regulars have stuck around.

Returning after a long hiatus

Welcome back. I remember when the Tiamat Sacrament was still in production, it's good to see you again.

Very nice use of colour and lighting.

@Dookie: What exactly do you mean? Should the inner outlines of the trees be simply a darker shade of green? Or do you mean that the whole palette should be lightened to make the outlines more apparent? I'm kind of confused about what "falling flat" means in this case.

Also, I'll try making them extremely dark grey. Thanks for actually giving me a legit reason to experiment with the lines, I've never known about that problem before.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

I apologize. I'm just so sick of hearing people tell me this. This is the first time it's happened in years but I swear it came up every time I posted a screenshot back when I was on this site before. It gets tiring and grating after a while.
