Skyrim Hype Thread: Undead Chicken Soup for the Dragon's Soul

I only found one dwarven ruin, had to climb all the way up to a balcony, only to find a barred door inside... Those ruins are probably connected to a quest or something.

BUT (there is one they fear... haha), I did explore one cave full of Falmer and Chaurus, that connected to a collapsed dwarven ruin, got a quick look, then got obliterated by some giant automaton/golem/thing, in a mere second. Dwarven ruins seem suited for higher level characters :)

Don't remember the name of the cave, but I could take a look, my nord character has a save inside, I am currently focusing on my Imperial Sword and Board character, shield is so much fun, and it's so much safer than dual-wielding.

REGARDING MAGICKA/STAMINA REGEN:I did some reading and I'm pretty sure that what happens is that your regen bonuses are taken into effect; however, all regeneration is cut to 1/3 while in combat. So, base regen is, for magicka, 3%/second. With a +50% robe, it's 4.5%/s. While in combat, these would be 1%/s and 1.5%/s.

Thanks, after a while I figured it would be something like this. Since it's percentage based, the more magicka, the better. Should be fine later in the game (if spell costs don't go up extremely).

As for standing stones, my current dual wielding nord uses The Lady for the bonus health and stamina regen. Not sure how helpful it actually is, but I didn't like any other stones I encountered so far.

Not quite sure which faction this character will join, just doing some wandering around the map, completing quests as they come. Just received Kyne's Sacred Trials, gonna go hunt some guardian skeever and mudcrab. It's amazing where you can find quests just by chance in this game.

Also, about quests, I like that they sometimes take place in different locations, boosts the replayability a bit.

Side note: Shouldn't have picked alchemy for my nord, I waste so much time just looking at the ground, picking herbs, instead of killing/enjoying the view :) And it levels up sooooo slow, only managed to take it to like 23 so far (that is with 5x training for gold). Though I like the potions/poisons I make, and the perks seem nice. But I really need to put my perk points into heavy armor instead of alchemy, I am too squishy while dual wielding.

Buy the perks that halve the magicka cost of your spells, and you should be pretty much golden.

I had the perks, for all my spells (novice and the one after that), but was still running out fast during combat. True my mage is only around level 9, but still having a lot of trouble.

Worst was fighting with witches. Those goddamn women came at me two at once, both casting the magicka draining Sparks. I managed to get a few spells off and hurt them a bit, and then ran out because of the constant draining. Never replenished it after that, they constantly drained me dry again and again. Then I died :)

The other time, I got them into a fight with some bandits, so they left me alone while I fired off spells at them, and luckily killed them. So I went to meet the Hagraven, only to get roasted by a single spell. Ouch.

Playing my mage is quite challenging, I will let her gather dust for a while and first concentrate on my third (probably main) character, a beautiful dual wielding nord heroine clad in heavy armor, concentrating on alchemy. I first wanted to give her light armor, but heavy armor looks better from what I can tell, and it's perks seem better too, and the perk for zero weight seems like an overkill.

Though I hate the fact that most of the armor perks only work when you are wearing the full set of armor, i.e. when I don't want to wear a helmet, I will lose most of the bonuses from perks. Annoying. Will probably set my helmet to one of the two hotkeys, and put in on during tough fights. (I still wish there was an option to "hide helmet" like in some other games, would be awesome)

ur reading it wron

Magicka regen only stops while casting/channeling. So, if you're holding on to a charged-up Fireball, your magicka regen will stop. After you sheathe (to cancel it) or cast it, your regen will start immediately. Also, if you're continuously casting Sparks or Flames or etc., your magicka will not recharge until you're done casting.

When not holding or casting a spell, your regen rate is in full effect (unless you're afflicted with Witbane).

No, I'm not talking about the full stop of magicka regen during casting/channeling, I'm talking about how the magicka regen slows while in combat...

Example, outside of combat, I summon a Flame Atronach (damn I wish I could marry one of those, so beautiful... am I weird?), it eats up a little of my magicka, and in a SHORT while, it fills back up.

While in combat, I summon the Atronach, it eats up a little of my magicka, and it takes noticeably longer to fill back up, while not doing anything.

Or am I just really high and am imagining things? Quick google search found some posts in forums like "Yeah the magicka regen slows in combat, it would be too OP otherwise", "Yup, the bonus regen from items don't work during combat" etc etc.

Don't know what is actually true, but I'm pretty sure it does slow down during combat.

Playing as a mage character is kinda challenging, since I constantly keep running out of mana, and from what I read on the net, the bonus magicka regen rate from robes and other items does NOT work during combat, which just sucks ass while playing pure mage. Even if my magicka pool gets bigger, if I can't regenerate it fast enough, this character is probably gonna have serious trouble. Kinda frustrating.... hope it is a bug and will get fixed, but until then, the mage is kinda annoying. Incredibly fun, but without the extra magicka regen.... sigh.

Or is this intended? Can anyone who is playing a mage tell me if it is such a huge problem, or if on higher levels it's fine?

Indeed, the 2 hotkeys on the PS3 are really crap compared to Oblivion and it's 8 slots. Currently playing a mage character, and it kinda breaks the flow of the game, since I constantly have to go to the favourites menu and juggle my spells (and I don't even have that many yet). Not a deal-breaker, but if Skyrim was without all those minor annoyances, it would be a perfect game.

Humm, funny, my PC could go through the tutorial without ANY framerate issues on medium settings, which look already better than the PS3 version, while the PS3 had quite a few framerate drops during the tutorial, and my PC is only slightly above the minimum requirements... Sigh, will probably start over on the PC, even though the mouse feels strange and laggy still, and the max volume of the PC version is incredibly low, which is a problem, because my sister listens to music and watches tv shows right behind my back. And navigating the UI, oh my gosh....

I wonder if Bethesda actually tested the PS3 version and thought "oh hey, this framerate is acceptable, people don't need a smooth game".

Gah, it seems each version has it's problems. No matter, won't keep me from playing this game for a few dozen(hundred?) hours. Still hoping for some mods/patches for the PC and PS3 to fix the most glaring problems though.

Rolling a dual-casting breton on the PC, will see if I can get used to the controls.

EDIT: Whaaa... the Y sensitivity is different from the X, and can't be changed from the flippin slow default... okay that's it, PS3 version it is :)

EDIT2: Damn you Bethesda, what have you done to the PS3 version :D

I encountered the Thalmor once. From what I heard in-game, they are exactly the type of people I wouldn't like.... Met them while they were escorting a prisoner, saying "GTFO, none of your business". So I set the prisoner free and killed them all. My dark elf sword/magic hybrid is like that. For all I know he could have murdered 50 children and they were going to execute him... oh well.

Anyways, for people playing Skyrim on PC, how can you get over the horrible consolized controls/UI.... After playing it on PS3, even if my PC can run it and it would make aiming with spells/bows easier, I will still probably stick to my PS3, simply because the PC version feels really crappy.

Though the FPS on the PS3 gets choppy at times, and the PC obviously has better graphics.... anyone else experiencing some FPS drops on the PS3?

Turn on your quest marker and follow it. Reyda being in the dungeon was just a rumor, she's actually at the bottom of the river southeast of Ivarstead. After you get the cryptic message, go to the very first room of the dungeon - Geirund's Hall, i think - and read the book on the body of the dead adventurer in the first room (Lost Legends). That'll open up the full-on quest. (I was confused, too.)

When I turn on the quest marker, literally nothing happens, only on the main map it kinda points to the SE of Ivarstead, where the bridge to the town is. I explored under the bridge, close to the bridge, I swam through like half the "lake" around the island, and the only thing I found were a few slaughterfish eggs. I think my game is bugged, or I am REALLY missing something.

Anyways, thanks for the advice on the Geirund's Hall, I didn't notice the dead adventurer right before the hole down. Thanks.

Where the hell is Reyda's corpse, she is not in the dungeon on the island whre she supposedly went. And I can't google any real answer either. I wish the Miscellaneous quest log was more specific/provided more info than only "find this", "go there", "meet this person", I'm pretty sure that I will forget why I even have half of these quests and will have no idea how to complete them.

Another thing, I got a bounty note for a bandit leader at Nilheim close to Ivarstead, but when I went there, there were only Guards, totally peaceful. I'm like wtf, then I found a video on youtube where the player killed one of the guards and the quest was completed.... I then massacred all the guards at Nilheim and the quest was completed too. No bounty, no crime, no murder....

I'm pretty sure the guards there shouldn't really be guards, but bandits. No mention of it in the game though, and when you attack them, they just stand there, they don't even fight back. Probably some oversight from Bethesda (no wonder in such a huge game).

Also, I got a quest in the dungeon on the island east of Ivarstead, after slaying some boss there, that says "investigate the cryptic message", and when I press Show on map, it keeps pointing to the dungeon, but I have cleared it all, and have no idea what cryptic message it refers to. Oh well, will probably end up with a few unsolved quests.
