Skyrim Hype Thread: Undead Chicken Soup for the Dragon's Soul

I LOLed at the video in that link, I will probably have to actually stop playing solo and take her with me sometimes :D

Skyrim Hype Thread: Undead Chicken Soup for the Dragon's Soul

Lucky you, I am only up to Blood dragons on my main save, hoping to find some new kinds soon. Then again I am only level 27, and did only a small part of the main quest.

But I once had to fight TWO blood dragons at the same time, mixed in with a pesky spriggan. Now that was a fight, I chugged down most of my plentiful healing potions that I've been saving, just to bring one of the dragons down.

I also met a dragon priest with my lvl 13 mage. Killed a dragon on top of a mountain, and I am like, "OMG, I am so badass, now let's go get the word from the wall. What's that, something is rising from the coffin. Probably some stupid Draugr or whate-"

3 fireballs later, I was dead. Had to retry quite a few times to bring the priest down, so much HP on that bastard, and he fired those fireballs like a machine gun. Also my flame atronach kept turning on me during the fight. The fact that the last patch bugged the fire resistance on the atronach (in other words, removed it) didn't help much.

Bah....
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1298322-the-unofficial-bug-list-v2/

I am now kinda sad that I spent money on this game. Don't get me wrong, it is everything I wished for, the world is awesome, the combat is great, level scaling is a huge improvement over Oblivion....

But the framerate issues on the PS3 are getting to the point where I don't want to play the game anymore, on my 25 hours save the framerate drops quite badly in certain dungeon types, and in normal wilderness too. Totally unplayable sometimes, taking all the enjoyment out of the game.

And this is also AFTER I installed the newest patch where Bethesda promised to solve the PS3 framerate issues. More and more people report that the issues are still there, the patch basically didn't do that much to the FPS, only a minor improvement, and only for a while.

I could forgive all of those other bugs (seriously, just read that link, some of them are quite BAD), even though they shouldn't be there in the first place, at least not those severe ones (I get it, it's a GIANT game, but still). As long as the game is smooth, it's fine for me. But how the hell can they get away with releasing this shitty software, for the PS3, that just either RUNS a game, or doesn't, in which case the game shouldn't be on that system in the first place....

Oh well, guess I have to wait a year or two till I can afford a decent PC to play it on, or hope that Bethesda actually releases a patch that will HELP, and soon for that matter.

...
Who am I kidding, I will try to struggle through, even at 5-10 FPS at times, I still love the game. But goddamnit am I pissed at Bethesda.

Surprising number of console players. Elder Scrolls always screams "get it on PC" at me.

And that screams "get a PC that can actually run it smoothly", which currently is not an option for me, ufortunately. Probably also true for some other people.

I would LOVE to play it on PC, aiming with spells, and especially bows, is HARD on the PS3, and PC has more hotkey buttons, while PS3 only has 2... Plus the mouse/WASD feels natural. Plus the better graphics (I don't care much for graphics in games, but the more beautiful world of Skyrim, the better I guess :P ).... Also, mods.

Damn you people with PCs strong enough to run Skyrim. My breton is so roasting you with her chain-lightning... or maybe she will just "Fiii" you stone cold and then dual-cast a fire rune right under you..... Did I mention that playing a mage is so much fun? I did? .... Well, it's true!

EDIT: Found some patch notes, here : http://www.lensoftruth.com/skyrim-patch-2-01-notes-now-live-on-ps3/

So, a new patch got applied to my PS3 version of the game, 2.01, 93MB. Can't find any patch notes yet, but it seems that the PS3 framerate issues have been adressed, so far it seems much smoother. Epic.

Would like a full list of changes though. Google gives me nothing.

4) I hate the character creation system, but again, par for the course with Bethesda.

I wonder why there are so few options in the char creation system, compared to Oblivion. Sure, most characters would turn out butt-uggly, but at least you could create so many different things with all the sliders.

In Skyrim, it's just a bunch of presets that you put together, and there isn't even that many of them. Some more hair styles, color sliders for hair, or more options for eyes/face shape/mouth shape would be welcome. Most of the mouth shapes are just horrible, for example.

But at least the characters look human this time, so there's a small victory...

Anyways, rolled a breton mage (again), wanted to give magic a (second) chance. So far, level 7, survived a fight with a dragon AND an ice troll, at the same fucking time. And got a new shout I never encountered before as a reward. Sweet... I love this game.

Now I'm going to attempt a foot trip to Winterhold, to join the college. My character is a mage after all, hungry for power.

The apprentice stone will be the death of me though, can't imagine how the battle with that evil necromancer would have turned out without the breton magicka resistance to help ease the pain.

Emotional Movies

I know it isn't a movie, but I just finished watching the ending of season 4 of Doctor Who....

Tears just came down my face, this show is really, absolutely, brilliant.

Not the first time I shed a tear during this show either. The character of the "doctor" is incredibly interesting and awesome, while very, very sad at the same time.

Sorry for the slight off-topic, it's just that sometimes, some longer-running shows allow you to develop much deeper connections to the characters, since you spend hours upon hours with them, while movies are usually over after 2 hours.

Adept difficulty seems just right for me, I still meet enemies that rape me, enemies that I rape, and enemies that I struggle a little against. The enemy hp and damage isn't too high to be frustrating, or too low to be a cakewalk. It really feels just right. Might pump it up higher later, but right now there is no reason whatsoever to do so, still having fun.

It's "interesting" playing melee only versus some mage enemies. Particularly enemies with slowing cold spells and wards. They just kite the hell out of me in open areas, and when I try to stun them with my shout, they sometimes pop a ward to nulify it, just to piss me off (and make it that more satisfying to finally kill them).

Also, lvl 3 Unrelenting Force.... oh my gosh so much fun. And a little overpowered. But fun. I can get some types of enemies in a complete stun-lock, just shout them, run up to them, hit them till they get up, then shield-bash, attack, shield-bash, attack, kill, evil laugh, rinse and repeat.

The bugs in this game kinda piss me off... For example, I killed the dragon near Falkreath, took it's soul, learned the word he was guarding. Then I get to Falkreath, get a quest to kill a dragon at the same place, go there, the dragon is there again, so I kill it, but his corpse just lies there, no soul absorbed. At least the chest there was refilled, but I wanted the soooouuuul. Damn you Bethesda and your bugs.

But overall the game is still way too awesome for me to care too much about such minor issues. The PS3 FPS issues on the other hand.... annoying, hope it gets fixed soon. There is a patch coming that will hopefully fix this, sometime after November 24th.

EDIT: Dawnbreaker.... hell yes.

Blood dragons aren't that bad. I find that they go down very quickly and easily when you use a bow and strafe a lot.

Problem is, I don't use a bow, and I don't use any damage spells either. Only sword and shield with a bit of support magic. So I have to take all the damage it dishes out while it's in the air, and hope it will land soon. Then I move in and do as much damage as I can while timing my blocks against the dragon's attacks.

But they aren't THAT hard, true, while I wasted so many pots on my first blood dragon, during the fight with a second one, I didn't have to use any potions, thanks to healing spells and proper block timing.

I must have a glitch in mission in action, because I saved Thorald along with his brother tagging along, and went to the arrow icon and nothing happens, I guess I missed out something at the prison.

Well, it's still a Bethesda game, so quest-related glitches happen, unfortunately.
While I completed this quest with no problems (aside from taking it on alone and having to kill all the people in that fort...ouch), on my first save, Reyda's corpse for the quest in Ivarstead didn't spawn, so I couldn't complete it , while on my current character it did, no problem.

Anyways, blood dragons, woooooot, I wasted almost all of my health potions on one of those (I constantly keep running out of health potions, damn). Not to mention all the other higher-level enemies I encountered so far with my epic shield character.

Like for example....

a Wispmother ... killed me so bad
a Spriggan Matron ... managed to kill one of those, with a bit of luck and a LOT of health potions
an Ice Mage ... he just blasted me away in a few spells, barely managed to jump from the wall and make a run for it with almost no health left, while being slowed to a almost complete stop.

Mage-based enemies really put the hurt on me, I can shrug off most melee attackers, but some of those spells... damn.
