BICFARMER'S PROFILE

Veteran student who has the knowl that is needed to answer questions and stuff like that.

I'm making a game too, but since I am not an artist, musician, programmer, or writer, it's going extremely slowly. You can find it over there->

I also joined in a handful of RMN's events, here's some of the games I got:

Personal notes:
- DO NOT use nested loops in RPGMaker
- DO NOT use centered origin show picture, it cannot be removed unless it goes back to topleft corner origin
- F9 for debug menu
- My biggest trip up is mapping. I really have no idea whatsoever when it comes to making maps. Which means I need to get a good map idea before I can make something even remotely playable.
Zack's Ultimate RPG Lite
This is my ultimate first game. It looks just like any noob's first RTP game. No RTP needed. About 1-2 hrs..

Xelos: Sinner's Circle (Demo)

dunno if the game is dying, but i sure did. about 10 minutes into the game a random encounter critted me for ~1000 damage which is above my max HP and I got oneshotted. Then my party got poisoned which I couldnt cure because the cure guy was the one who got oneshotted on turn 1. So I died. That is all for me.

Your thoughts on magic/skill leveling

I've played games which replace lower level spells like what you're talking about, and I didnt like it. I prefer options: I definitely need the basic heal if the HP gained to MP cost ratio is higher so i can use it after fights. Same deal for party-wide buffs like mp regen, some characters might not need MP regen (they might have self targeting mp restore or something) and thats just more MP wasted by whoever casts the regen.

The What-Iffers in: Final Fancy

author=AubreyTheBard
Can you tell me anything about the circumstances in which it happened? I've never observed it myself.

It was randomly while I was walking around, didnt happen again when i reloaded. If i had to guess, it's probably from some script

Beyond the Labyrinth

Couldnt get far. Ran into a group of 2 bees, and they decided to focus fire on each of my party members in turn, killing off each party member as they go. Which begs the question, why are my teammates so weak that they can all get twoshotted by random encounters in the first area? Escaping was also impossible so the only choice was to die painfully.

P.S. I'm guessing there was an equipment shop somewhere in town that i missed. Sure, but I didnt expect area 1 to be this brutally random. I beat other randoms without too much trouble so this is probably a case of wonky balancing.

Congrats, again, to everyone who did an owl game over the weekend. You guys rocked it!

i actually started making one, but i guess that wasnt enough time for me. Congrats everyone else though!

Lords of the Wasteland

Got as far as the snow mountain in chapter 2 before i quitted. It was so cold up that mountain that the game sometimes froze. Seriously though, the game mechanics are very tight and forces me to play in a certain way, which seems to directly contradict what the dev says in the game page above:

My focus in selecting features for this game was immersion. Games are for playing, not playing against. So I tried to piece together things that create a gameplay experience that you aren't drawn out of by mechanics of the game itself.

In this RPG there are on map encounters that don't respawn, which means no grinding and no steady income. Lots of enemies dont even drop money, you have to steal it off them if u want to get something. In addition you are by yourself for large sections of the game, and the enemies can hit very hard. This means that for every battle i will be engaging in a very slow turtling strategy where I spam the evasion move and guard to restore TP. This will allow me to avoid taking damage from randoms, but it really draws out the fights and slows the game down. Something thats also pretty annoying is that self-targeting moves, like the HP-costing self buff skill that the rogue has and the healing move that the scientist has, have a chance to MISS. That is pretty sad.

Dark Gleaming

Norse myth RPG. You go around listening to stories involving various norse gods (who are also the NPC's) then later you get quizzed on them. There are also RPG battles which arent too difficult. However I dont think you can buy potions so you do have to be careful to some extent. It's a pretty simple game.

A Rant

This thread will probably get locked pretty fast. Anyway i think u shouldnt take review scores this seriously, so much as to have poured out your entire personal belief system like this. For example I would give ur game a 1 star because the game froze when i played it. Would that be fair? Not really. But you don't have to take it seriously because you fixed that problem already. Same thing goes for any review/criticism/whatever, just read the feedback, fix what u think needs fixing and move on.

Crypt Challenge DX+ Review

I also got a request to review this. However, seeing this review and that the balance problem I had with this game is still there, I'm guessing by this point that it's a conscious design choice.

EDIT: OK, you do intend to fix it, nice.

Phantom Block Review

I played both the old version and the new version, and both of them play very well. The two versions actually have very different levels if I remember right. Unfortunately when I played this I couldnt get past the final level and got kinda annoyed having gotten all the way there. Seeing this review I kinda want to download it and try to finish it again. Maybe.

Did you finish the game, libby? Maybe you can give me some pointers for that final level?
