Right now I'm face-lifting a lot of the menus and creating the next few connecting maps between the starting areas. Also adding some AI patterns to existing and new enemies, to make them a bit smarter and more dangerous.
For example, Sea Worms sometimes cast Stop. Now, it won't cast it on party members who are already under the effects of Stop. It'll always pick a target that is still moving when it decides to cast Stop again.
Since Paul and I are expanding the NPC cast of the game by a huge margin, we've gone back and rewritten a lot of dialogue, as well. Players already familiar with the game's opening events will be seeing a few more important NPC characters appearing in those scenes.
jedahxiii was kind enough to compile some tile sets for me, and I was able to work those into a new set used for new areas, so I'm mapping both Tycoon Castle and Figaro Castle, and then Paul will work his artistic magic on those locations.

Talking to the right NPCs, completing the right Missions, defeating the right players in Triple Triad, winning certain optional boss battles, etc.
These are all things we can use to unlock new locations for players.

Question. If this is how the overworld map is gonna be. Does that mean that the onset of the game is gonna have a much more linear progression? Also, are there gonna be areas hidden on the map that you can unlock like in FFX?
Upon reaching the World Map before, players were able to visit a few different locations before progressing with the Mysidia plot stuff. That's still the same.
But yes, there is no longer a world map. Players will progress through different areas connecting major points, or use the travel menu here to move quickly between areas (once you have access to it, which happens around the end of your initial visit to Figaro Castle).
There will be unlockable locations, of course. How they're unlocked varies (no, you won't be inputting coordinates like in FFX).

Couillie, if you need a Final Fantasy X-themed windowskin I made one just now it's based on Final Fantasy X HD Remaster:
Very nice! I'll add it in once I have something included for users to switch window styles. Thank you.

We're going to have to be careful not to make the locations simple clones of their counterparts in other games in terms of environment, but a lot of them will feature some similarities to the locations they're based on, like Narshe being cold and snowy, to give one example.

This is sooo awesome! I see the cliff is custom-made; might look a bit clashy with FFIV:TCC tiles. Also, that cave entrance is weirdly done; doesn't really give that 'cave entrance' feels.
*sees a blue floating orb* A save point?
Paul can answer your concerns about the art, but yeah, that's a Save Point.

I'm still confused with that Vahn fight video. Why would anyone want to beat up the first game's hero? :p
This totally happens in FFD's Battle Arena, you know.

1) You can't see anything except black treetops and character artwork. Pan the screen so you can actually see the characters that are talking to each other.
2) The elevation on the trees is messed up, near the edges of the tents.
3) "You're horrible, Kel! That is the worst ending that I've ever heard!"
