R.I.P. RPG Revolution

Rest in peace, names of sites I've probably seen at most once in my life and have no idea of.

Fun fact: in 2009 when I did a Google search for RPG Maker websites, this was the one that came up so I just picked it and ignored the rest.

M.O.G. Creation

I approve of adding random animal ears to things.

Americana Dawn

I heard it was, but I then think I've seen YDS herself mention she was having a custom game engine being made too. Granted this is a fuzzy IRC chat room memory from about 2 to 3 years ago, so it's mere hearsay. Or hear.. type.

If it is true, I'd like to quote that having a programmer contract a competent game engine is even more absurdly expensive. It's the part of a game that requires the most training, research, time and money (not to mention that any good software is literally 50% or more debugging) such that most indie developers pick an engine off the shelf that's been battle-tested (Unity, etc.). Oh, you can find someone who will do it for cheap, and you'll regret having done so later.

I would've been happy if the original idea had just been completed, I hate seeing a good project go to waste.

Exodus: Stats and Kings

I'm the #1 blog poster by nearly +100 even though people have told me I don't post my progress enough. How is this happen?

Your Dream Collaboration

I have no idea, I've always felt I would work by myself.

The one rare exception that never got off the ground was, at one point in January 2010, Mary4D and I were going to make some sort of cute Madou Monogatari style RPG using the Frankenstein's Monster of a game engine I was working on at the time. It never went anywhere and I decided to move on (to eventually the RPG Maker 20XX prototype, being sidetracked, fading away for a year, cancelling, reviving, etc.) and I have no idea where Mary4D went.

Americana Dawn

It is generally a bad idea to kickstart an RPG Maker game.

But it could be worse

Pom Gets Wi-Fi

They aren't speaking Tumblr, they're speaking YouTube.

M.O.G. Creation

I don't know, it's all noisy and fuzzy because you JPEGd a pixel art screenshot.

Custom Battle

I realize you're not doing extra equipment slots or stats, but I still respect your efforts at flexibility and building in meaningful systems that I would use.

You get way more equipment slots, and you can change their name under project settings, and then you can edit the derived statistics and the like a little to make them behave the way you want.

HOWEVER

or stats

You can have as many stats until the engine crashes. You could have 1000 attributes, 1000 derived stats and 1000s of elements and traits or even more.

You can have any combination of these. I am about to release a new version that has a working skill action command to demonstrate this in a moment.

damageeverywhere.png

So is there a damage cap, or are all of the numbers below 9999 to make the picture more readable?

I think it will crash after 31 digits. Perhaps? RPG20XX has you define your own stats, derived, etc. anyways so it's all up to you. I did mention it takes color from the current system graphic, so that means you get 14 colors and patterns for use in "damage" numbers when you usually only need 4.

You could have three times as many stats as Dark Souls if you really wanted to. It might not be good game design, but RPG20XX can't and won't stop you.

Considering that derived stats are just event scripts, and that it doesn't sanity check that you aren't using nonsensical commands, lots of things are possible. I'm only imposing limits on things that could cause unintentional crashes and bugs. If you go past 88 miles per hour, I'll just assume you know what you're doing.
