ALONE Review

I think I know how you feel, I started countless RPG Maker projects... but only managed to complete a couple of very small projects.

Still struggling to finish some of the larger ones.

But yeah, you should feel accomplished for writing all those reviews, that's a major feat! Keep on having fun!

I'd like to play this but have issues unpacking the game for some reason, any advice..?

Thanks for taking an interest! If you can't unpack the file, I suggest googling for "unzip online" and use one of the several websites that allow you to unpack compacted files for free.

If you still can't unpack the file, then please let me know so that I can fix something up.

Also, thanks for the heads up, I'll have to look into changing the type of file I'm using since it won't work on everyone's computers. I should probably use ".rar" or ".zip".

ALONE Review

For me, someone who made as many reviews as you did (around 340) in such a short time frame, is indeed legendary. Trust me on this! ;P

Thanks again!

ALONE Review

Holy crap! A review by the legendary reviewer TheRpgmakerAddict! What a treat. Thanks a lot! :D

I've been away from RMN due to some crappy real life reasons, so I only noticed this now. Sorry about that!

I feel that your review manages to encapsulate all the main features of ALONE.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I certainly wasn't expecting any new reviews, that's for sure! I guess this is the closest I'll ever be to make an "RPG Maker Classic".

I'm pretty satisfied by how the atmosphere, names of abilities/equipments and special effects turned out! It does give the game a unique feel.

I still have no idea how I managed to make the original concept and event game in only 8 hours... that always blows my mind, specially considering how slow I am at finishing any other RPG Maker projects. I was on a roll back then, I guess.

That time limit was probably what spurred me forward, the game was born out of desperation.

People back then had very diverging opinions about the game and it's gameplay, which is only natural since it plays around with classic RPG concepts and turns them upside down.
Looking back now, it's kind of amusing since the drama that ensued is exactly the kind of stuff ALONE is meant to represent.

It was a joy reading your review, TheRpgmakerAddict! I don't disagree with any of your points, so there isn't much to discuss there. You do seem to have completely grasped what the game was trying to achieve and accepted it as such.

Oh yeah, there's a hidden "alternative quest", if you have a save right after you defeat the last boss, you should be able to find it.

Thanks again for the review and the kind words!

Why are these forums relatively inactive?

Forums are gradually becoming more and more of a relic of the internet's past. They'll always be around .
No they wont. Forums will go the way of the Floppy, CD, Guest-Book, Response Videos, Flash and other stuff people thought would be around forever.

In all those instances, it was said none of that stuff was going anywhere. But now they're gone and in a lot of cases replaced with inferior stuff.
Can't say I agree. People will always look for places to discuss things. In my opinion, forums are more popular than ever - the format is just different and they are relegated to the most popular websites. Reddit and Facebook Groups are essentially forums, even though they may not look like 2000s-style message boards. That being said, I do much prefer the older message board style format and long for forums like RMN to become as popular as they were 15-20 years ago.

I wasn't clear enough, I don't mean to say that the concept of "forums" will disappear, new services similar to Discord will surely live on, but "forums" as we know them will disappear. My main concern is that old posts from years ago will be harder and harder to find due to the nature of the new Discord-like services.

I'm just waiting for Reddit to take the plunge into the new age and "modernize" their forums. It will happen as more and more people drop old style forums and look for the new Discord-like alternatives.

Facebook is only used by people from older generations, the new generations couldn't care less about it. This means that eventually it will need to adapt or die.

Note that I don't agree with any of this, I'm just pointing it out.

The Best of the Best Nintendo DS RPGs

Pokémon Conquest and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings are SRPGs.

Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver is pretty average.

I guess you consider Dragon Quest V a port, despite never being officially released before? Or maybe you didn't care much for the game? It's definitely one of the best RPGs on the system.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is pretty good too, and I feel it's higher quality than some of those picks.

There's also SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny, a pretty good RPG and remake. But maybe that doesn't qualify.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

Final Fantasy 1 (rpg maker edition)Hey all.

So the release of FF1-3 pixel remasters had me feeling kinda nostaligic. They're really not for me, but definitely got me thinking back to my time playing the originals. I don't think I quite have the time nor patience to go through those versions again, but it got me thinking... there was an FF1 remake made years ago with rpg maker. Pretty obscure now, but I knew I remembered it actually existing.

Took me a while to track down, but the creator, Max Berger, still has the site up with a download!

I could have sworn this game was available on RMN!

i have never participated in a chain game

Me neither, and it pains me.

There was much rejoicing yes

Thanks for the reply! Cool. I was just curious because I can't use Discord and didn't see much movement over here.
