Hi all !
I like 16-bits RPGs (especially action RPGs) where you feel the quest behind the lines of code. I also like strategy, puzzle solving, immersive stories, tabletop RPG and LARP.
I'm a hobbyist C programmer who likes to work on custom game mechanics. My very first project was a very basic map generator for Genesia, aka Ultimate Domain https://rpgmaker.net/users/Irog/locker/UltimateDomainWorld.zip
I also want to help developers polishing their projects with my player feedback. So I'll be happy to test your game !
See you around,
Irog

Yeah, I'm doing Gameboy and it seems inconceivable I will have to bump the ROM size up from 64 KB for this game. Even if you include the BGB emulator with that, it's only just over 500 KB.
You could increase your game portability by adding a version of the emulator that runs your game on Linux!
your game idea is too big
your game idea is too big
Here is a simple tool to check if your game idea is too big !

It's up to you! You can end up on a wall or feed yourself well so you will survive the winter and pass on your genes to the next generation.

You'll probably like small size music files for your projects so here is a great place to find Midi music:

If you know other locations for Midi music, feel free to share your links!

You've made a very immersive CSS to present this great idea !
I always keep my game file size small... but 1.44 MB is quite a challenge!
This preclude my usual Windows + Linux in a single game file. This also preclude providing the soundfont file to make sure midi musics run on Linux.
If I strip all my previous SDL2 projects of the game assets, the compressed windows executable and DLLs have the following sizes:
Deer 748 KB
H16 942 KB
Lya 787 KB
MinST 758 KB
Pong10H 588 KB
So... I can use SDL2 to display graphics, plays music and sounds and read keyboard and mouse input. Deer and H16 engines are too specific. I could reuse Lya's engine to build an action RPG, reuse MinST engine to build a turn based strategy game, expand Pong10H vector drawing ability to use no graphic assets or develop any other crazy idea.
I'm open to team project. Send me a message to discuss project idea.

OK OK I have an even better idea: you play as Ganondorf... but it's a dating game.
ideal for kidnapping princesses and building Stockholm syndrome !
saves
Mirak, I would happily share my knowledge about save files manipulation but I've never used any rm. All my games are written in C, thus I had to program the saving functionality from scratch.
