I think what happened was once I got to a certain level, I was able to kill the little boom blooms in one combo, which is an easy 30-40 xp since they are clumped together. Made it really easy to accidentally overlevel myself. I'd suggest making the next level xp a lot higher as you level, and make those crystal guys worth a LOT more xp. The fact that they are worth the same as the first enemy in the game doesn't make a lot of sense, considering how much harder they are to kill.

I like these portraits a lot. I think they help tie the UI in with the rest of the game's graphics better than if everything was hi-res.

Honestly, I'm usually in the "only pixels" camp when it comes to UI/tile matching resolutions, because trying to break away from that is such a difficult tight-rope act. Here, though, it looks alright imo.
I think the darker colour palette and font choice match well enough to not offend too much, so as long as you maintain a strict level of consistency you can definitely get away with it.
Like I said, it's just so hard to balance all the graphical elements required to pull off a higher-res UI that I'd still recommend most people go the matching route. I just can't quite place my finger on what makes it look fine in this case...

Playing the latest version now, enjoying the changes so far. Just beat the first boss, pretty fun although I think I'm overlevelled since I killed him quick. Having a good time, although those teleporting birdmen are annoying as heck. Will update as I get further.

STREAMed Hams?...(?) ???
This technical masterpiece deserves all the praise it gets, truly. It would have been so much more straightforward (I guess is the word?) to just make this a video, but making it a fully playable game just elevates it to another level altogether. It also gives us the rare moments like a streamer being totally caught off guard by a surprise option actually having a major impact on the outcome! Just awesome.
I'll have to go through all of RPG Maker Cola, I had no idea some of it was on Soundcloud! This makes things so much easier...for three episodes, at least.
Thanks for the shout-out!!!

author=LockeZExcept all the graphics and sound and story and general area design are all carried over, which makes the re-implementation of those things go extremely quickly, and the design might stay more or less exactly the same. I'm not pro-engine switching, but it's hardly the same thing as abandoning a project.
Switching the engine is the same thing as abandoning the project

author=nemojbatkastleThis image was too big to hotlink!
where the buildings use the sprites I ripped from Zoda's Revenge and work for rustic areas, but not larger cities
Ditto this one! ???
I've been fiddling around with from-scratch NES graphics (the best I can do at the moment is redrawing existing tiles, but from a legal stand point that counts *COUGHS LOUDLY*) and I found these in my search for things to, uh, be inspired by. Wouldn't something like this work for big cities? These are both from Zoda's Revenge. I wish someone would rip the FF7 demake's overhaul that romhacking did.
author=DyhaltoThis project used to be in MV, didn't it? I seem to remember discussions about tile scaling up to the stupid 48x48 resolution.
MZ?
Bummer. I was really looking forward to another 2k3 project ringing the bell of Completion. Speaking of which, I haven't forgotten Moonsong, Kaempfer. I'm just waiting a perfect time to really settle in and enjoy >:)
