The mapping in this looks A1! Very clean aesthetically.

Thanks! Always nice to hear things like that.

Is that a light shining through the ceiling on the right?

It is! It represents a beam of moonlight, and also functions as the game's save points.

Moonsong: First Verse Review

Wow! No complaints at all about this review. I agree with everything you said.

I've heard from a lot of people now that the game is too easy near the end, which is an important lesson in really ramping up enemy difficulty to match a player's potential power. I guess I didn't expect people to be so good at brutalizing the enemies. I'll definitely ramp up difficulty in future releases!

Magnus saying he'll never sail again is definitely not intended. The dialogue is the same for whoever is in that player slot, but I'll likely go in an add a special option for him during that cutscene so he can't say it. It was mostly meant as hyperbole anyway, rather than a declaration of fact. The entire party will have to sail again in the Second Verse...

The barrels and crates in Karnev (the stealth section) are mostly there to block the player's path, but honestly they could use a couple of items. I always prefer to reward exploration whenever I can.

I'll take a look at these bugs and fix them all up. Guess I'll have to make a v1.3! I appreciate the screenshots, they should make it easy to patch everything up quickly.

All in all, I appreciate the review a lot!

By the way, what font are you using? There is one included with the game, but it doesn't seem to be the same one from these bug screenshots.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

@ellenor: fair enough, the shader you posted looks amazing. Keep us updated once you've slapped some textures on your geometry!

@Darken: That makes sense, now that I think about it. I haven't used it, just read about it. I've mostly seen static images of things built with it, and they've mostly been small one-off objects (like a car or whatever) rather than comprehensive areas. Even the few scenes floating around are quite small. I guess I know why, now!

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

@Giznads: Damn, you're a machine. Everything looks so good.

@ellenor: Have you heard of Crocotile 3D? It may streamline your process and help you do what you want to do. It's specifically built for building 3D geometry using 2D sprites/tiles.

Moonsong: First Verse

Magnus going full beast mode (literally) is a viable win button, and one of the strongest builds in the game. If I ever do another balancing pass I'll have to further lower the AP rewards from enemies (I've done this so many times! Imagine how insanely overskilled the beta testers were... also this is very time consuming, otherwise I would have likely already done it ) and increase enemy HP, because it seems like there's lots of ways do to 300-500 damage near the end of the game and the enemies can't keep up. End game enemies hit very hard, but that doesn't mean much if you can one-shot them.

Thanks for the feedback! All of what I've learning will definitely make it into any and all future Moonsongs.

Moonsong: First Verse

One day I'll return to this, honest! I've got lots of ideas of where it goes next, and the story is done (plotted, anyway). It'll be a chunk of work, though! Evoker takes precedence for now.

What made the game easy near the end? Was it skill damage/available EP, or sheer brute force? There are a lot of killer combos for characters to utilize but I don't want it to get ~too easy~ (which is currently is).

Also, thanks! I'm very happy to be featured!

If anyone new downloads the game, feel free to ask me any questions you might have, I'm always around.

Hello there. A little question, after a few hours of play time: why the save points, if you can save anywhere? Did you forget to disable the feature in the last patch?… :)

No, that isn't an oversight (but I can see how it might seem like one)! The save points are intended as a sort of a "challenge mode", and you can choose to use only them if you want a little more risk in your life. Being able to save anywhere was left in so that people could choose to stop whenever they want (like a quicksave), or to abuse the save system if they want by saving right before a boss. They also act as a reminder that you should save if you haven't done so in awhile. I wanted to give the player options on how they choose to play.

Well I guess I won't be listening to post-haste then! Post... slow? Slow2?

RPGMaker Cola

I shall have to give this a listen post-haste!

Misaos 2020 - Discussion Topic

I'm super excited to see Moonsong nominated in a few categories! There are some amazing games out there this year, it'll be an honour to lose to them.

;D
