LIBERTY'S PROFILE

I enjoy playing and creating games (mostly RPGs) and have a love of story and characterisation above graphics. I've been into RM* since '96 and have used all makers - started on the PSX makers, found and used a patched version of the SNES RM, then moved to RM95. When I found RM2K I finally decided to join some forums and I've been a part of the community ever since.

CLOSAT - The Culmination - {DEADLINE IMMINENT!}

~ CLOSAT ~
The Culmination

What is this?
This is the last of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, all aimed at creation.

This seventh episode will focus on putting everything we have written so far into one complete story.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Fine, then what do we have to do?
Firstly, decide whether or not you are going to stick around for all seven parts. I'm aiming to have them done within a few weeks time, and some parts are longer than others.

Secondly, each topic will ask you to create something. This something will be used by others so don't throw out anything that you'd rather not be shared.

Lastly, create.

We get a prize, right?
I've thought about it and decided that there will be three (3) achievements. The first two will be one or the other, not both.
The first will be a general participation achievement for anyone who wants to join this topic just now.
The second is a full participation achievement for those who have completed the previous CLOSAT topics. This one is applicable only to those who have already done them, and not open to anyone from here on out.
The last achievement can be gained on top of the other and is awarded for completing the challenge. The challenge is a story that has different rules and is harder to complete.

What are we creating?
This time, the last time, we are going to use everything that we have created in the six previous topics to actually create a story.

You'll do this like so:
- Each person will receive a PM from me with a random set of everything that has come before.
- You will then be tasked with fitting all these random things together into a coherent story.
- Each person will get 2-4 characters, 1 location, 1-2 objects, 1 situation, 1 action and 1 theme that they must use.
- If you require extra content, you may use anything that has been created in the previous threads, whether they were your own creations or others.
- Word limit will be 750 - 10000 words. As long as it's over 750 words, contains all your pieces, is grammatically correct and has decent spelling, it will count as a complete CLOSAT.

- You have until the end of August to come up with your story, though if more time is needed, feel free to ask!

Be as creative, crazy, zany, insane, serious, deep, philosophical and meaningful as you want. These will be your own stories, you're just borrowing the make-up.

Once done, add your story to the topic and feel proud of your accomplishments. There may or may not be something to sweeten the deal for those who complete this last step.

If anyone wants to take a challenge, PM me.

Challenge
The challenge is as follows. If you sign up for it you will receive a PM with a random assortment of rules and content. This could range from bizarre to just plain mean. You can decline a challenge once you get it and just do a normal one, but if you decide to do a challenge again, it will be the same as the one you initially received.
Content - could be any number of any content. You may have to write a story with all the characters that were created, or none. It might have to include three themes and seven items, or no items and two locations. It will be randomly generated.
Rules - you'll be given rules to follow to complete the challenge. It may be something as simple as following a word count to the exact amount, writing only dialogue, having to write in a certain tense or 'angle' or even writing without using a certain letter or word.

I recommend that only those who are good with the English language partake the challenge, though, as it may be a bit harder for those who aren't very good with writing it to complete some of the rules.

CLOSAT - T is for Theme

~ CLOSAT ~
T is for Theme

What is this?
This is the sixth of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, all aimed at creation.

This sixth episode will focus on themes.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~

Secondly, each topic will ask you to create something. This something will be used by others so don't throw out anything that you'd rather not be shared.

Lastly, create.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating an theme. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with making one. Just one, mind you.

You'll do this like so:
- Make a small list of the last couple (2-4) of movies/tv shows, books/manga/comics and games you watched/read/played.
- Choose one of each category (film, book, game).
- Make a list of as many themes you can think of that were in them.
- Choose one theme from your lists.

- Next Friday will be the deadline for ALL the current CLOSAT topics.

"The theme of a book is a universal idea or message that stretches through an entire story. A theme may show up in a pattern (such as reoccurring examples of beauty in simplicity) or a theme may come through as the result of a buildup (tragedy of war). It is often a lesson that we learn about life or people."
For more and a list of common themes.

Once done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date. You don't need to add your observations, but you may if you wish.

A is for Action

What is this?
This is the fourth of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.

This fifth episode will focus on creating a action.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?

Lastly, create.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating an action. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with making one. Just one, mind you.

You'll do this like so:
- Go for a walk. Take a pad and pen with you.
- Close your eyes and listen for a while. Jot down everything you hear.
- Close your eyes and try to catch scents. Jot down any you recognise.
- Touch things and try to describe how it feels.
- Look around and jot down anything that catches your attention.
- When you get back, take one of those things and create an action from it.

- This Friday will be the deadline.

Actions can range from creative or uncreative - whichever you like.

Once your action is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date. You don't need to add your observations, but you may if you wish.

Actions

Observations
Hear: Carpentry noises - hammer, saw, swearing, banging, wood, birds singing, lawnmower, kids talking and screaming, "Tommy won't give it back!" "I got the ball!", leaves rustling, cars and trucks driving past, sheep bleating, dog barks, crying child, adult yelling "Get inside! Now!" gravel, car door slamming, car motor revving, car leaving driveway
Smell: grass, wood, dusty, eucalyptus, smoke, sheep, gasoline/petrol, sheep poo, rotten meat, roast meat, exhaust fumes
Touch: Bark - rough, hard and cold, like scabbed tissue under my hands.
Flower petals - soft, silky, damp yet dry. Alive, I can feel the water in it. Feather - Soft, light, barely-there lines of stiff all-one-way feathery, but with a sharp, blunt point and dry, scaly hard, but softish. Tickles my hand, soft sweepy and rush of air.
See: Little girl in a bright red shirt and skirt, climbing on an a-frame which is new, metallic, glinting in the sun. Little boy in a green jumper runs over and tries to push her out of the way as he climbs, but she clings on tightly and keeps climbing.
A galah is on the grass, eating something off the ground. Looks like a biscuit or piece of cake or something like that. It's grey and pink and feathery. Pretty. Only the one though. odd.
A line of ants are climbing around the base of a tree where someone has spilt a milkshake, probably strawberry flavour - it's red. Some of them are carrying bits of food and one looks like it was stepped on at one point, moving really slow and with crooked legs.
An old man is pushing a lawnmower across his lawn. Takes a minute to adjust a dial on the side, then keeps pushing. He's got almost no hair and a squashed nose. Wearing brown trousers and a navy striped and collared t-shirt. White runners. Maybe a hearing aid? He's got something on his ear.
Red car drives past, with three men in it. It's sleek, but needs a good wash - covered in red dirt - probably from driving on dirt roads. One of them had a hand hanging out the window. Green t-shirt. IRT-241, Victorian plates. "The place to be."
Old tree looks like a good wind would push it over. Eucalyptus. Multiple trunks - more like they split at some point. Five main ones. The branches are all droopy, but there's not many leaves on it. It must be sick.
New concrete pavement. Someone tried to draw a penis on it while it was wet, but the tip is missing. TB 4 AT. It's lighter than the rest. It was probably broken at one point.

Action: Writing on wet concrete.

Observations:
Hear: splashing water, children playing, spluttering, wind rustling leaves, coughing, metal clanking, "Got it!" buzzing from insects.
See: greenish grass, brother jumping in the pool, children swimming, woman floating on pink floaty, tall trees, small insect scurrying around puddles of water, poofy clouds.
Touch: rippling cool water lapping at my feet, warm wind on my face, hot sun on my head, solid wooden bench - rough in places, soft beach towel - a little worn with a frayed end.
Smell: clorine, smoke, trees.

Action: Swimming in the cool pool water.

Observations:
-Hear: Big dogs barking, small dogs barking, my mom saying bye, truck motors, leaves rustling, doors closing, sandals on gravel, slippers on carpet, glass bottles
-Smell: Pepsi, wind, Ritz crackers, paper, grass, my stinky shirt LOL.
-Touch: aluminum Pepsi can- cool and smooth, plastic (?) slippers- flexible and comfy/slightly foamy, fabric lawn chair- rough and hurts my back (lol), burning hot sun- really hot and blinding, paper-back library book- dirty and worn out
-See: my mom's SUV, weird beetle, family walking, kids on tricycles, box of Ritz crackers, Pepsi can, buff dude w/ shades, my patchy mofo lawn, trucks, boat

Action: Taking a nice, zen, slow blink that lasts 1.2345678911 seconds to close my eye; then 1.1987654321 seconds to gently open it to the flowing summer wind. I will then proceed to look at my patchy mofo lawn.

Observations:
See: Sunlight leaves shadows from hedgerows which surround the garden, but otherwise makes garden blinding to look at; patio is comprised of rectangular orange and brown rocks covering all of the flooring in the large square area, sun colours it in such a way that makes it painful to view; hedgerows which surround two sides of the garden are dark green with small firs, whereas the hedges at the back are bright with large leaves; the fourth side of the garden is enclosed by the tall house with glass doors - need a wash; neglected birdhouse on the side of the wall with one bit of wood missing making it unusable; bug crawling on paper, shortly followed by bug smeared over paper; reflection of self and garden in glass doors of house, sun is reflecting brightly from hair.
Smell: Freshly cut grass smell, mainly outdone by smell of fumes from cars; burning rubber.
Hear: Plane rumbling overhead, sound coming from the sky; cars passing by and bumping over a certain rock in the road each time, a satisfying "ka-dunk" sound is made; birds, sparrows specifically, chirping between two hedges; sound of motorbike approaching from the far distance; train on tracks coming and swiftly going; loud, whiny moped sound lingering in the background; wind chimes faintly chatter.
Feel: Ants climbing over bare feet; a slight, cooling breeze sails past frequently, feels very gentle; stabbing pain in bottom of foot from hard rocks; patio feels rough and grainy, very much like bits of sand caught up amongst the paving.

Action: a bug being crushed to death

Notes:
Waves, quiet, birdsong, gulls, geese.

Action: Strolling along the sunset swept beach of Turtle Bay, Oahu, Hawai'i.

Notes:
poop on grass, dew on grass, broken sidewalk, dirty houses, legs hurt, yanked along on a leash, yanking along on a leash

Action: Walking your dog.

Observations:
Sights:
Huh. Probably need to change that bird bath water at some point.
Wait, what's that lawn chair doing in the porch? Oh. Right.

Sounds:
The mechanism of the garage door going up, then down. That's not me, though! Honest!
Birds chirping.
I hear a car revving up it's engine somewhere.
That was totally an airplane just then.

Resulting action: A mechanism's engine revving up.

Observations:
sights: Group of identically-dressed female university graduates leaving a job fair; rows of bicycles parked outside pachinko parlour; shifty looking salaryman going into one of the (many) soaplands near my apartment; taxies queuing up outside the station.
sounds: hum of air-conditioner; cacophony from inside pachinko parlour as I walk past; street hawkers trying to get salarymen into their karaoke bars; ambulance siren and recording warning drivers.
smells: Curry rice from CocoIchiban; the smell that comes following heavy rain.
touch: My feet feel the bumpy yellow lines in the train station for blind people.

event: Someone singing karaoke

Nootes:
Sight: A party room, an outside table with a some chairs, come couches in the outside, many people celebrating a wedding in the inside.
Sounds: Persons, Music
Smells. Cigarette and the smell of an approaching rain
touch: My butt was feeling a comfortable couch

action: Smoking a cigarette

CLOSAT - S is for Situation

~ CLOSAT ~
S is for Situation

What is this?
This is the fourth of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.

This fourth episode will focus on creating a situation.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating a situation. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with making one. Just one, mind you.

You'll do this like so:

- Look behind you. What you see first will be your word.
- Using that word, create a word web* of at least 20 words.
- At the end of your web, take the last word and create a situation with it.
- Post it in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my examples in the situation section.
- This Friday will be the deadline. That is June 8th.

Situations can range from creative or uncreative - whichever you like.
In this case a situation is something that causes an event or conflict or moves the story onwards. The situation itself can be an event or conflict, but it would be of large significance in the story. For example: The situation in a criminal show is usually an unusual murder that has occurred. It is usually the cause behind the story.

*A word web is a brainstorming tool where you start with one word and connect other words to it, then more others to those words. Eventually it ends up looking like a messy spiderweb. A few examples:

Once your situation is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date. You don't need to add your word web, but you may if you wish.

O is for Object

What is this?
This is the third of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the third, and all are aimed at creation.

This third episode will focus on object creation.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~

Lastly, create.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating an object. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with creating one. Just one. You'll do this like so:

- Grab a random book, open it to a random page and the fiftieth word on that page has to be included in the name of the object. If that word is an object, then either use it or skip down another few lines. If the word is 'the, an, a, and, then, than... ect' then skip down another few lines.
- Give a description of this item up to 50 words.
- Add a timeline of the item - from it's creation to current day. Who's hands has it been in? Where was it last kept? A loose timeline is fine.
- Post them in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my example in the location section.
You have a week for this, so around the 5th of June.

Objects can be anything - something of complete fiction or not.

Once your object and timeline is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

Dagger of Pain
A sacrificial artefact from the bleak era of iron. When it carved out the hearts of young virgins left as offerings for the dragon at Mount Refial. The dagger is simple in design, as it was meant for a singular purpose. It has one bladed side, one blunt side. It curves back a good deal, and the blade is rather fat. The hand guard is short, and merely enough to help the hand from slipping in all the blood. The hilt is leather-bound and short. There is a large ruby embedded in the bottom of the hilt.

Point of Creation - Forged in the smithery of Trestan, far south of Mount Refial.
1 month - sent to the Monastery at Mount Refial by way of squire.
3 years - the dragon of Mount Refial destroyed the Monastery when there were no more virgins to eat. (The dragon ritual had prompted a rash wave of pre-teen sex in the villages) and the dagger fell down the mountain.
20 years - during a war between kingdoms, the Traffians made camp south of the Monastery, where one wandering sentry stumbled on the dagger. He kept it to himself.
1 year - during the battle of Kortras, the sentry who found it died in combat.
1 week - while clearing out the corpses and gathering any useful supplies off them, the coroner found the dagger on the sentry, and tucked it away with all the other precious things he had found.
2 years - the dagger had found a home on the coroner's wall after retirement.
3 years - the coroners wife used the dagger on her husband after finding out about a scandal.
4 hours - the priest who regularly visited the coroner for council, found the murder and had the woman hanged immediately. The dagger was taken into the church's treasury.
9 centuries - a treasure hunter stumbles on the lost city of Kortras, and loots the church's treasury. The dagger he keeps for himself.
10 generations - Jamal Torrence uses it as a letter opener at home.

Picture of the Oracle's Temple
A painting of the Temple of Delphi. Nobody knows who painted it, but the style of painting suggests that it was made during the Renaissance. As such, it was probably originally painted for a member of the upper class, but, as the story goes, the family came on hard times, and was forced to sell the painting. The painting has changed hands over the many years of it's existence, but it recently was donated to a museum, where it is now on display.

It's worth changes according to who one talks to. Collectors of obscure paintings would say that "Picture of the Oracle's Temple" is absolutely priceless because nobody knows who painted it. The museum, being of a more reasonable mind, gave the painting the benefit of it's age and supposed history, and offered a tidy sum to acquire the painting.

Almincing Jalor
A constantly oscillating orb shaped crystal that's the stuff of legends.
No, not legendary POWERS per say, but was used in many daring missions to retake what has been lost. Its particular power is unknown but is suspected to give the user utter control while damaging them greatly if they abuse its power.

TIMELINE:
126 years ago: A housewife by the name of Darine Loravea uses its stave off the Kilani Clan. She is praised as a hero.

15 years ago: Lani destroys the planet. But, this isn't a bad thing. She brings back the planet's purity and fixes the "foul creatures" of the world. Perhaps this was what the orb was meant for.
10 years ago: The first person to be revived by the orb is in the newspaper all around the world. People see reason to doubt why it should even exist while others argue it is vital to the world's survival. Lani sets them straight, straight in the ground that is. This is HER world.
3 years ago: Lani instills the orb to the world. It causes the world to obtain everlasting purity. Lani's soul rests in peace.
Yesterday: The Thief Society of Today steals the orb to prevent people such as Lani or Gavire to ever gain control again. They were aliens that were directly responsible for the orb being there in the first place.

Sea Scroll
A long, ancient scroll that charts the seas of the world. Surprisingly accurate for such a dated artefact. It precisely marks the coastlines and islands as well as any modern map, however it also charts a rather large, non-existent island located in the middle of the ocean. It's embellished by detailed sketches of various sea monsters as well as a compass.

Timeline
75 Years Ago : This scroll was found in the ruins of an ancient city located near the coast.
74 Years Ago : After sitting in a lab for a year, scholars were finally allowed to study this scroll more closely. But they had to wear gloves.
70 Years Ago : A gruelling study revealed that this document is around 600 years old due to the archaic formations of it's letters.

2008 - Abe dies, and he hands it over to his daughter, Teressa Brackson.

The Orb of Souls
A powerful artefact capable of separating a being's soul from its body and trapping it indefinitely, or until the user chooses to reunite them. Its history is oft-questioned, but there have been enough records of its use to more-or-less confirm its existence.

Timeline
1000 years ago - Alleged creation of the Orb. Serpentalis believes it to be a manifestation of the Eye of the Creator, and subsequently they think there is a twin to it that has the power to permanently fuse a soul to a shell (effectively making the user immortal). Zodiac, on the other hand, believes it to be a pearl gifted to Virgo from Cancer that fell to the land plane of Gidaria. Why Cancer did not retrieve it at the time is a question the High Prelates have never deigned to answer.
980 years ago - First semi-believable recording of the Orb's use in combat. Yorlach the Bloody brought a swift end to the War of the Five Tragedies (and caused the fifth tragedy that gave the war its eventual name) by tearing out the soul of the enemy commander in front of his troops. This brutal act caused the unconditional surrender of the surviving forces, but they were all slaughtered regardless.
520 years ago - The whereabouts of the Orb in the intervening 460 years is unknown to all and speculated by few, but an archaic journal discovered in some ruins near Carafax reveals that at this time the Orb came into the possession of Jik, an imp of small intelligence and smaller temper. The journal, that of one Burkin--a talent-less wandering spellcrafter--says that he was fortunate enough to fish up the Orb one day, at the time having no idea as to its purpose or power. He lost it to Jik in a game of chance, much to his chagrin. The few pages after this entry detail a horrific bloodbath when Jik went on a rampage and nearly shattered the orb by trying to pull out more souls than it could hold. The crack it sustained diminished its power; it could now only remove emotions from the target rather than their entire soul.
300 years ago - After another 220 years a military report stated outright that the Orb was responsible for a spate of "deaths" which were plaguing Darkriver. It was initially a mystery as the victims were still breathing, but possessed no emotions. Burkin's journal was submitted as evidence to support the claim. A hunt began to find and destroy the Orb before it could be used for further harm.
250 years ago - It took 50 years, but finally the Orb was found in the possession of Cafrim, who was at the time Arch-Chancellor of Carafax's Spellcrafting Academy. The first known person who kept the Orb as a collector's item rather than doing harm with it. Despite his benevolent use of the artefact, it was wrested from his grasp and destroyed in a public ceremony.
100 years ago - Strange reports began to surface about Cafrim's extraordinary longevity. Although his records were highly confidential, it was getting more difficult to hide the fact that he was more than a century old. When confronted, it finally came to light that Serpentalis had been correct in their belief; the Orb had a twin which Cafrim had used to become immortal. It was deemed a heretical object and ordered destroyed, but no one could locate it and Cafrim would not divulge its location. As he could not be killed, the death penalty could not be enforced. Cafrim was instead sentenced to eternal imprisonment in the Black Cells, a dread prison from which no one had ever emerged alive.
20 years ago - Now nearing his two-hundredth century of life, Cafrim shocked the world by writing a biography of his exploits during the years before his incarceration. This drew the attention of several scholars, who visited his cell in droves to interview him about the revelations he had penned. One such visitor, Madriol Garamon, became a renowned spellcrafter of unparalleled power after speaking with Cafrim. Rumour abounds that he was chosen to be the successor of the Immortality Orb as Cafrim no longer wanted to be bound to his weak, frail mortal shell.
Present day - The rumours of Cafrim grooming Madriol as his successor seem to hold water; Cafrim died three days ago, and no one alive believes he would end his immortality without passing on the secret of the Orb's location. Gidaria's child emperor, at the behest of his cabinet of advisors, wishes to interrogate Madriol, but this is made difficult by the fact that Madriol's reputation and philanthropic gestures had previously afforded him a declaration of diplomatic immunity in such matters.

Detachable Doorknob of Magicians
A doorknob which, as the name suggests, can be detached and reattached to a door (knobless or otherwise) at any time and be used to open any door under most circumstances. Makes a satisfying click when detached. No one knows why, but it mysteriously fails to work on wooden doors.

Timeline:
1878 - A patent for the doorknob is filed. This particular doorknob in question is the winning prototype which was never thrown out. It did, however, sit in the dusty cupboard of its inventor for the next 23 years during the mass production of countless other doorknobs of its kind.
1901 - The doorknob's inventor mysteriously disappears. Several days after his disappearance, the police raid the house and the doorknob prototype becomes evidence. It continues to sit in its dusty surroundings for a further 10 years, locked away in a police evidence unit. The inventor was never found again.
1911 - In a clear out of unused evidence, one young police woman (Ms. Glenna Hoover) takes the doorknob for use in her home after a break-in left one of her own doorknobs in a state of disrepair. The doorknob sits happily on her living room door.
1914 - Ms. Glenna Hoover is victim to another break-in. Nothing is stolen except for the old doorknob. The thief is the original inventor who sells the doorknob to a museum in London, where it sits around and gets ogled for a long 76 years.
1990 - In a clear out at the museum to make way for newly acquired antiques, the doorknob is sold on to Desmond Pete Wilkins. He discovers its abilities and promptly gives it its name: 'The Detachable Doorknob of Magicians'. He proudly shows it off in a display case at his fancy parties which he has over the space of 10 years and writes several journal entries on its powers and his experiences.
2000 - After a particular failure of a millennium party, Wilkins falls victim to many a 'knob' gag from guests due to his obsession with the door trinket. Not one to ignore such attacks close to his heart, he takes care of his aggressors with bullets. The bloodied doorknob is returned to police custody alongside the revolver used for the murders and, naturally, Mr. Wilkins who is locked away for a forgiving 12 years on an insanity plea.
2011 - The doorknob is sold off in a police auction alongside other useless goods to justice-mad Bessie Hoover. She discovers the item's potential after getting home and immediately playing around with it. She presses it to her front door and it attaches itself, letting her into her house. She detaches it and immediately vows to use it only for justice, keeping it on her person at all times.

Sorry I've not been online much (and won't until about next week) as my internet has been cut. Don't worry, we'll get this done eventually. :D

CLOSAT - L is for Location [Still opened for the determined]

~ CLOSAT ~
L is for Location

What is this?
This is the start of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.

This second episode will focus on location creation.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating locations. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with creating a location. Just one, mind you. You'll do this like so:

- Use the first and last letter of your first and last name, respectively, in the name of your location. It can be anywhere in the name of the location. For example: My first name starts with an R and my last name ends in T, so I could have had something like "Origama Tunnel System" or "World of Mort" or even "Taverndale". As long as the two letters are somewhere in the name.
- Give a description of said location between 100 to 500 words.
- Post them in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my example in the location section.
- This Friday will be the deadline. That is May 11.

Locations can range from a single room to a whole world. You can be as creative or uncreative as you like, making something of complete fiction or somewhere you've been/know very well.

I am asking for a longer written exercise than the last, but bear in mind that this will help you at the end of the series.

Once your location is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

Locations

Raitheway Outer Wall
A long wall that stretches from the northern section of the Raitheway Cliffs, to the southern deadlands, it's seen a lot of damage in recent years from riots and vandalising youths. The wall itself is 16 feet high most of the way around, and is thick enough for two to walk abreast on. The outside of the wall is scarred and pitted due to constant abuse from both winds and human hands. Some parts had murals painted on them in the past but has since been graffitied over and whitewashed beyond recognition. Though initially built to protect the city from the frequent sand storms of the Obasi desert, lately it has been used as a check-point for the city militia to monitor who enters or leaves the city.

The wall has two main gates and a slew of smaller ones that back up in to backyards of houses, but since the increase of refugees from the cities beyond the desert, most gates have been sealed shut, including the main south gate. Those found to be using the sealed gates to sneak in or out of Raitheway are severely punished but this doesn't stop the booming trade that occurs behind the backs of the militia.

There are at least three tunnels that run under the wall, which are used by the unlawful to either sneak in refugees (for a price) or black market goods. Those that do know of these tunnels keep them a secret, though one is currently out of commission due to a collapse.

The House of Tears

A sprawling mansion that was once the house of a powerful noble family, the Dricily's. It lies in neglect and decay since the Battle of Dricily Hill 30 years prior. The battle culminated in the ransacking of the house and the slaying of most of the Dricily clan.

The once beautiful house is now referred to as the House of Tears; it's halls, rooms and corridors, once lavishly decked in fine tapestries, antique furniture and crystal chandeliers, now lie empty of anything of value. The grounds surrounding the mansion are just as vast, but now are overgrown, wild and hostile to new-comers. However, among the refuse and broken furniture, there supposedly lies a secret passage that leads to the treasures and riches that the Dricily's managed to hide before the battle.

However, treasure-hunters must be on guard, for the halls are haunted by the bitter deceased, still eager to defend their home and fortune as well as foul spirits, drawn to the poisonous atmosphere of the decrepit mansion.

Dreagen Island
During the Great War of Expansion, Dreagen Island was used as a POW labour camp by the Empire of Nanasa. There, vast mines were constructed where prisoners were forced to work extracting iron to contribute to the Nanasan war effort. The island soon earned the nickname of "Six month Island" - the average life expectancy of the slave labourers.

Today, more than 50 years after the end of the war, the island is lifeless, the mines and housing built for the residents fallen into ruin, the roads overgrown and deserted. It has become something of a tourist site for those interested in abandoned places, but only a small part of the island is safe enough to tour. Visitors who wander off might very well find the ground beneath them collapse into a long-forgotten mine shaft...or worse, one of the many unmarked mass graves said to dot the island.

Care Home #117
From the outside, the care home's garden appears well tended as the building's purpose may suggest. The lawn surrounding the home is two tones of vibrant, almost unhealthy green. There is a short dirt path leading up to the entrance from the nearby side walk, and it looks to have seen no footprint or mark. It remains completely untouched, and is eerily quiet.

When standing at the end of the dirt path, one can see into the care home through the panelled windows around its perimeter. A dark brown desk which clashes against the medical white of the rest of the building's decor is visible past the similarly dark curtains.

Through the glass door, the front entrance to Care Home #117, it becomes apparent that the decor really is entirely white. It has a strangely crisp feeling to it, and even the passing of feet makes no sound. Save for the faceless receptionist who frequents the open area, the lobby to the building is completely empty. There is a faint sound of dulled chatter from the living areas located at the back of the home, however..

Kelig Zoo
Situated along a main thoroughfare, the Kelig Zoo gathers animal specimens from near and far for entertainment and educational purposes. Like many zoos, Kelig is sectioned in zones relative to their specimen's natural habitat.

Outside of caring for their animal charges, they do provide a make-shift meeting place at the centre of the area. It has room and facilities enough for special occasions, such as birthdays or business meetings. However, the reality is that it is barely used outside of wandering families and their picnic lunches, or couples that happen to date there.

Tarnation Dam
A cryptic dam created by the ancients. Cobblestone litters the area, as well as several toxic jumping water plants. The dam control centre is at the top of the dam. The only way to go there is to risk your neck with the jumping water plants, so you can see why it was abandoned in the late 1490's. Though every once and awhile, some rowdy adventurer acts as a guide for overzealous tourists. It turns out there are a lot of myths surrounding the place, and tourists coming out of the place... certainly isn't one of them. Despite this all Tarnation Dam still functions nicely. It's rumoured that the ghost of the founder of the dam is slaving away day and night running the dam up in the lofty heights and dungeon-like control room.

Jamal's Locker
In the heart of Detroit, Jamal and his crew spend lunch here, just outside his locker, in Grosse Pointe public school. The hall has seen some years, that much is clear. The paint is sun-bleached eggshell white, and the lockers recently painted maroon five years ago.
Jamal's locker is about a foot wide and 5 feet tall. It sticks when you try to open and close it, after being slammed too often by the previous owner. There's a small black heart with J+M in the middle, drawn on by Jamal's on-again/off-again girlfriend.
The inside of Jamal's Locker is a foot deep: there is a shelf for books, and three hooks on the three walls; except two of the hooks are missing.
On the door inner, is a small magnetic mirror. Tucked behind the mirror so it sticks out the left side is a picture of Jamal and Maria on a park bench.
There's a spare dark green hoodie hanging inside the locker, and Jamal's gym shoes. On the shelf sits a copy of Mathematics 101, stolen now for two years. There is a binder with three-ring paper and a ball-point blue pen stuck to the plastic casing. The floor outside Jamal's Locker has a groove from years of the trio sitting there with their game-boys.
The lighting above Jamal's Locker is burnt out. The school has yet to replace it.

Giant Frog's Pond
A small, peaceful pond located in a clearing of a large forest. Lily pads freely bloom on the clear, still water. It's said that deep within the pond sleeps a giant frog, who acts as a guardian of the area. This rumour is supported by an old monolith near the pond that depicts a frog, although it's so old nobody really knows anything about it. Some people have taken to leaving small offerings at the monolith, and those who do claim to have not been bothered by a buzzing fly ever since.

Soul Barricade
A long corridor made of silver, which many said is infinite, that only souls could end, carve by the angels who protect the elves, considered a sin to put a foot on those divine floors. You either go south, or north, otherwise you will never be able to deviate, because, on each side there is an immense waterfalls which strength is so powerful that nothing is able to touch it, not even to get near. About the sky, it is this bright green, clear of clouds, despite of no sun, this celestial ceiling have his own faint light. at the beginning of the corridor, and the end of the human world, there is this giant cube of light, which is covered of ancient glyphs that only gods understand, this cube, visible only to the deaths, is one of the many ways to what people known as "what is beyond of life". The function of this cube is to strain the heavy souls who have committed a lot of sins, and only let through the ones who are light and have live pure enough.

South Du'yova
A forest of an autumn footfall, where the trees and large lake spanning the entire forest create a pathway through this lustful forest. Mythical creatures could be found here, but only if you looked hard enough.

South Du'yova is known often as the "Playground of Pixie Dust." because the sun rays oft shine on the lake with an ever so peaceful bloom. The smell of early dew blossoms bless the forest with a fragrant smell. Autumn is constant fall, and the orange leaves are scattered, almost manually to feel like the trees are greeting your presence. A befitting land for pixies.

If mayhap, an adventurer is lucky enough, they might be able to hear the neighs of a mythical horse, or the playful laughter of pixies playing at the lake. The only other sound is a soft breeze which feels like mother nature's whisper, and a harmonic trickling sound coming from a soft, easygoing stream.

Though this land is beautiful in sight and presence, it holds a much darker purpose.

It is a centre ground for a war against man and beast. Yes, if you were to adventure into the outskirts of this blessed wood, you'd see broken down wooden contraptions which looked like rams, and huge debris dents in the ground, formerly holding flaming projectiles.

South Du'yova had another name. Its battle name. It was called "Flowers of a Warground". Its beauty, cloaked in sorrow, its shining brilliance, drenched in fallen battles. The forestland of mythical creatures is beautiful, yet brutal, but yet, the mythical creatures live on, the forest lives on. Still shining its orange glow over its battle scars and bruises. The forest lives on in beauty.

Many stand in memorial at the edge of this forest, paying their respects to the fallen soldiers who tried to defend and preserve a land they treasured. The wind could feel their sorrow, and would breeze and water eyes while the leaves fell gracefully.

Lyric Lake
A large lake covered in eerie mist and surrounded by tall, violet mountains. They say that a beautiful voice can be heard from under the water. According to local legend, the voice belongs to a beautiful singer who drowned in the lake long ago, and now haunts it. Anyone who hears her voice is enchanted, drawing them to the bottom of the lake to their doom. A ferry service is available for travellers who wish to cross the lake unharmed.

Eerie of Rimdor

A once bustling mountain crawling with adventurers' seeking their fortune and the like. Now it is an abandoned rockheap infested with demented creatures of all sorts. The top reaches the lowest level of clouds and is snow-capped, and the sides have been made dangerously steep from the long downpours of rain along them.

At the peak stands a large one-hundred foot monument of the first person to ever set foot on the peak--Thomas Terrancesson. He holds a lance in his right hand and a buckler strapped to his right arm. He is carved out of the very mountain itself.

None have set foot on this mountain since the incident.

Stanley's Chocolate Factory
Stanley's factory was established in 1999. It was founded by him, his long-lost brother from Machu Picchu, and his other long-lost brother from Yugoslavia. The building was to be site of innovation-- Stanley and his brothers made the chocolate factory exactly 8 feet below ground level.

The building was made to resemble an 1800s chocolate factory. It was abandoned 1 year after construction, when they produced too much chocolate and it flooded the basement.

Geilec Junction
Buried in the forefront of the gaseous planet Aremda, Geilec Junction is a port town founded by the crew of a ship that crashed and lodged itself into the planet's dense outer layer surface. Life energy is supported by generators scattered across Aremda that uses the steam from the gas vents located on the planet's second layer to create ample oxygen for those living in the Geilec Junction.

The outer-shell of Geilec Junction is comprised of an alloy that is obtained when taking the native gases of Armeda and putting them under intense pressure. This alloy was able to adapt to the temperatures of Armeda with far greater efficiency, in comparison to human alloys. With further development, the inhabitants of Geilec were able to create a weather system that regulated temperature and weather so as to make sustainability, through food and climate, easier.

The lower-rim of the Geilec Junction contains the ports for which space-crafts and carriers land when importing/exporting goods, as well as parking docks for tourists. Geilec contains a moderate population of about 250,000, with the city set in multiple layers on top of platforms that are lodged into the sides of Geilec's outer shell. Each platform is a circular shaped piece of Armedian alloy, the same material used to create the city's dome, and they sustain individual colonies of shops, buildings, and communities. The foundation of each individual building is merged into the body of the platform, as the platform is merged into the city's outer-shell. Using the Aremdas gas in liquid form, the buildings housed on top of each platform fuses into the alloy of which the platforms are created, becoming one entity. And, by simply using an extreme coolant, the building structure can be easily dismantled.

Armeda is known for it's high-tech advancements using Armedian gases and it's two other physical states. Hundreds upon thousands of visitors to Geilec Junction come in hopes of purchasing Armedian based weapons, vehicles, and merchandise, which are calculated to sell for millions of dollars.

Crystal Fjord
Located deep in the heart of Gidaria, the Crystal Fjord is a beautiful sight to behold. Once a kilometre-long rushing expanse of water, an unknown event caused the entire landscape to crystallise, forming a natural crossing and once again enabling trade between Treca and Port Seldor, which had been almost impossible beforehand because of the treacherous waters and lack of easily-available airship technology.

As with most things on Gidaria, tales as to the cause of the crystallisation vary between the planet's two main religious bodies, Serpentalis and Zodiac: Serpentalis doctrine states that the Fjord is in fact a skin shed by the Creator, while Zodiac maintains that it was a gift from Aquarius to steer mankind back on the path to integration and acceptance. There is an emerging myth--which is gaining traction even as far as the Vanishing Isle, according to some--that the crystallisation was in fact the by-product of a spellcrafting attempt gone horribly wrong.

Waterfall of Jade
Description: Shining as bright as the sun, and being the highest point in the universe, to see this area is like getting paid 1,000 pieces of gold, every few seconds! Only the most adventurous of people have seen it, and it's more dangerous on the journey, then it is actually being there.
It was found in the year 3000 when explorers travelled here. And instead of taking samples, they marvelled in its glory. So many people hear the story of the waterfall, that they may begin to wander what the water tastes or feels like. Well, the water is actually cursed, and one drink, and you disappear, one touch, and your skin burns. Still looks good though.

CLOSAT - C is for Character [Still open for the determined]

~ CLOSAT ~
C is for Character

What is this?
This is the start of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.

This first episode will focus on character creation.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.

Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating characters. Each person who decides to join up will create two characters. One male, one female. You'll do this like so:

- Find a random name generator via google. There's some here, here and here.

- Pick a name for each character - doesn't matter how odd or awesome.
- Give them a description within 10 words or less.
- Give them a quick bio in less than 50 words.
- Post them in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my two examples in the character section.
- Next Friday will be the deadline. That is May 11.

It doesn't matter how odd the character is. These will be used for something, though, so don't go too crazy, okay?

Once your character is done, they'll be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

An Official *English* Version of 2k3 Approaches!

Petition for Signatures
Official Topic

This suggestion was thrown into the table and so we have to ask, if we were to release RPG Maker 2003 in English would you buy it?
Vote and post your suggestions here~

Just a note, take the EULA into consideration. This means you guys shouldn't use patches/plug-ins/external programs if you want to use RPG Maker.

Well, what can I say? There's a possibilty that Degica/EB! will look into creating an official English version of RM2K3 if there's enough demand for it. What do you all think? Should we embrace this momentous occasion that would allow us to use 2K3 legally? Would you pay for such a thing? Let your voices be heard!

And sign the damn petition! <3

This was requested by a fan - namely me - to a staff member, so no hatin' on Degica. Got an issue, take it up with me and I'll show you my reasoning. Since some people are asshats. (Not necessarily anyone here, but there are some that are being a bit douchey about the idea.)

Also, please spread the word around to any and all sites you frequent where people use the program. The more people made aware, the better!

Game List Sorting

So, I was asked about something that ended up becoming an idea of being able to sort your current games list so that your picks are at the top. Sort of like a personal Featured Games list within your own games. This way you'd be able to show off the games you want to be seen and played more easily.

Currently games lists are sorted alphabetically and you've got your best game ever shoved between your 5 hour contest entry and that newbie game you made back in '99.

Maybe having the ability to flag some games to go to the top of the list would be a good idea.

Other ideas discussed were a small notation of what year the game was created, making the list sortable by years and stars and if there should be something like a star or mark to indicate that said game was a Featured Game at one point.

So, ideas or thoughts on this... do you have any?
