LIBERTY'S PROFILE

I enjoy playing and creating games (mostly RPGs) and have a love of story and characterisation above graphics. I've been into RM* since '96 and have used all makers - started on the PSX makers, found and used a patched version of the SNES RM, then moved to RM95. When I found RM2K I finally decided to join some forums and I've been a part of the community ever since.

O is for Object

What is this?
This is the start of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the second, and all are aimed at creation.

This second episode will focus on location creation.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating locations. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with creating an object. Just one, mind you. You'll do this like so:

- Find an item in your house.
- Describe what the item looks like.
- Describe three uses it could have that are not it's proper and/or typical use.
- Post it in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my example in the location section.
- Next Saturday will be the deadline. That is September 9th.
(That said, if you come in to the series late, as long as you add to the other topics, you may join in still until the end.)

Once your object is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

Objects

Faded pink wax inside of a hefty glass bowl.
It could be used as a torture device by lighting it and using the flame to cause damage. Its heft would also make for a good distraction if thrown or rolled, or as a last ditch weapon. It could also be used to make a signal by either lighting it or flicking the edge of the container to create a soft ringing sound that wouldn't carry far.

A clear plastic pill bottle.
It can be used as a shot glass for any alcoholic beverage you can imagine. It could also be used as a small cookie cutter. It might even be used to store game dice.

A small black, snub-nose 357 revolver with Pachmayr grips.
It could be used to make art...very noisily. It's definitely strong enough to prop up a couch. I recommend unloading it first. It's deceptively heavy. It'd make a fine paperweight. (Personally, I wouldn't use it for any of these functions, but that's just me.)

Wand, made of manzanita with a quartz tip, curved at the base.
Disclaimer, bad juju if you actually use one for any of this in real life. Could be used as a back scratcher. Might make a rather unique marching baton. Perhaps a digging implement for planting seeds in your garden?

A stainless steel flower sifter.
Could be used for sifting dirt for gold. Might make a rather versatile percussion instrument since you could not only beat it, but also put pebbles in it and crank it. It would also make a rather inadequate bludgeoning tool, but I'm sure that would bend it up.

A blue backpack.
In reality, a bag of holding with extra-dimensional space that allows it to carry ten times, no, twenty times what a like item might normally be able to carry! ***

A faded, worn curtain.
It can be used as a lightweight cloak for simple comfort, or as a disguise. It could put out a small fire. It could also be torn up into bandages.

Green oil paint.
Could be used to write a message or to paint runes, to set alight, or to poison someone.

A half-chewed rawhide bone.
Once a perfectly "bone-shaped" creation. Made to appear as half the cross-bones from a Jolly Roger. It was formed out of rawhide, which dogs in particular enjoy chewing. As such, the end of this bone is half-chewed. On top of the non-nutritional edible option, this object could hold several uses.
Some examples, is a make-shift club. Reminiscent of the bone clubs our ancestor cavemen would wield. Another, could be a stirring utensil in the kitchen. Sure, it may ruin whatever soup or sauce you're cooking up, but in a bind, what better stick could one wish for? There's also the most obvious use, which is as a book mark. Of course, one should always ensure the dog is asleep, and the bone has had time to dry.

A braid of dried sweetgrass.

The sweetgrass strands are a round grass that turn a yellow-green colour when dried. They are then tied and braided together like a maiden's locks. It has a particular aroma akin to sweet almonds mixed with grass.

Ususual is tricky, because its common use has changed drastically over time and between cultures. In modern western culture it, like most wild long grasses, is considered good for only grazing of animals or is derided as a weed. In native american cultures it was used as a gift item as it was taboo to use it as money/trade item, jewelry, for use in teas or medicines, used in smudging ceremonies, and kept around the house for its pleasant smell.

So I suppose some other unusual uses for it could be tying them together to make a belt, fraying an end to make a toothbrush with minor natural antibiotic qualities, and used to make the thong/rope in sandles.

Paper Cube
A small dandelion yellow origami cube, slightly larger than your average marble.
One could place a average marble inside, use for kindling, perhaps a gift for a child.

Flattened Paper Cube
A small dandelion yellow origami cube, except it's flatted out into a square, when it's folded it's slightly larger than your average marble.
One could fold it into a cube, use for kindling, perhaps a gift for a origami aficionado.

[CLOSAT] L is for Location

L is for Location

What is this?
This is the start of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the second, and all are aimed at creation.

This second episode will focus on location creation.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating locations. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with creating a location. Just one, mind you. You'll do this like so:

- Use the first and last letter of your first and last name, respectively, in the name of your location. It can be anywhere in the name of the location. For example: My first name starts with an R and my last name ends in T, so I could have had something like "Origama Tunnel System" or "World of Mort" or even "Taverndale". As long as the two letters are somewhere in the name.
- Give a description of said location between 100 to 500 words.
- Post them in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my example in the location section.
- This Sunday will be the deadline. That is August 20th.
(That said, if you come in to the series late, as long as you add to the other topics, you may join in still until the end.)

Locations can range from a single room to a whole world. You can be as creative or uncreative as you like, making something of complete fiction or somewhere you've been/know very well.

I am asking for a longer written exercise than the last, but bear in mind that this will help you at the end of the series.

Once your location is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

Locations

The Gandrell River
A long river that spans the length of the continent, it is home to many different types of wildlife and is one of the largest rivers in the world. Bordered by dense forests in the north and vast plains in the south, the river was named for the famed explorer who first mapped it from end to end. On the banks of the eastern shore, near the middle of the river sits the floating city of Gandre, a commercial metropolis built on and around the river trade caravans who bring many goods to trade that can be found along the river itself. The river opens out to the Askan ocean. A port at the mouth of the river allows traders to shore their ocean-faring ships in exchange for hiring barges in order to cut across the continent and safely delivering their goods for sale. The lifeblood of the countries that rely on it for trade, it lives up to its moniker of "The Living Stream".

The Castle of the Requiem of Oblivion and Peace

A peaceful yet somber tune seems to carry wherever one goes in this castle. It’s flat white walls dance with the faces of the long since past, some happy and smiling while others scream in pain.
Many people enter the castle seeking to bring back their lost loved ones, few people have ever exited the castle after entering, some return with enough of their mind intact to tell unreliable stories of having found their loved ones in the walls before being taken back to the entrance by a large mysterious figure that seemed to be dressed in something that was simultaneously black and white. Occasionally exploration missions are mounted into the Castle but and rarely they return, but were too terrified to speak of what was inside.

Elestrium
Stories are told of an ancient place with wonders and marvels far beyond our imagining; where men could fly and perform miraculous feats, but none can say where it may be, whether it sank in the sea by some cataclysm, or whether it is buried deep in some as-yet undiscovered jungle, waiting for some intrepid explorer or wayward traveler to find it. Those who tell of it say it is ruled by an immortal queen.

Gekrall Shopping Center

Of old, Gekrall was a place where people just hung out, and business was prosperous. Over time, however, businesses found better/cheaper places to do business in, and the social aspect dwindled as more businesses left. Now, it is a hollow shell of it's former self, barely able to make a profit.

Castle Jory
More often than not, travellers for whom the sight of this castle is novel will remark on the stillness of its surrounding trees; how the sounds of birds seems to have been sucked out of the air, and how very blue-black the shadows cast from the crumbling grey walls are against the unmoving water of its moat. The castle is a ruin, with whole beds left mouldy and rotting. The moat is curiously warm and green-brown, like a hazel iris. Those travellers are unlikely to ever want to return.

Jaguar's Tomb
Deep in the jungles, beneath the lost Swahili city on an island off the coast of Tanzani, lies a sacred temple. Bathed in fading rays of sunlight, the subterranean monument is slowly crumbling. within hold the riches of the Silk Road. Wonders horded from the trade market to secretly bring the island city to international triumph. However, a plague struck down the citizens, and nature devoured the mysterious tomb. Laden with a myriad of traps, mazes, and a so-called curse, have turned back many an ambitious treasure hunter.

[CLOSAT] C is for Character

~ CLOSAT ~
C is for Character

What is this?
This is the start of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.

This first episode will focus on character creation.

But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different exercises that combine to create a story. It starts with creation and ends in a fun finished product made of random bits and bobs. We ran a version of it a long time ago and I'm bringing it back for funsies!

So what do we have to do?
Firstly, decide whether or not you are going to stick around for all seven parts. I'm aiming to have them done within a few weeks time, and some parts are longer than others.

Secondly, each topic will ask you to create something. This something will be used by others so don't throw out anything that you'd rather not be shared.

Lastly, create.

What are we creating?

This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating characters. Each person who decides to join up will create two characters. You'll do this like so:

- Find a random name generator via google. There's some here and here.

- Pick a name for each character - doesn't matter how odd or awesome.
- Give them a description within 10 words or less.
- Give them a quick bio in less than 50 words.
- Post them in this thread.

- I'll add my two examples in the character section.
- This Friday will be the deadline. That is August 11.
(That said, if you come in to the series late, as long as you add to the other topics, you may join in still until the end.)

It doesn't matter how odd the character is. These will be used for something, though, so don't go too crazy, okay?

Once your character is done, they'll be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

[PINK] - GAYmak the Rainbow

This topic is for the entries for the PINK inspired characters for the GAYmak the Rainbow event, where you make a character a day based on the colours of the rainbow, in celebration for Pride month.

Here's the general game plan:
- Character creation must include a small blurb about the character (who they are, description, etc) and a small graphical image of them (this can be a sketch, a sprite, a portrait, edited pre-existing graphics (RTP/rips), an MS Paint image, etc).
- Characters must be based on the colour of that day in some way, shape or form.
- Characters must be your own creation, however they may be part of an already existing 'universe', either fandom or your own.
- Let people know in your character post if you're okay with the character being used by others in the weekend game making event.
- Since this is a Pride event, try to make a character that isn't just a Straight female/male. Mix it up. Try to expand your horizons and push yourself, but remember to be conscientious about your character depictions.
- You will have until the game make weekend starts (30th of June) before the threads get locked, so if your characters aren't in their respective threads by then, you'll miss the badge for that colour day!

By posting a pink inspired character in this thread you will receive the PINK badge.
