RPG Gender Swap!

Secret of Mana:
Randi is now Randa. She has to become a Gema knight for the Mana Tree. Problem is that the males in the mana clan are always the Gema knights and the females are the Gema, so I don't know if that'd just be prohibited or what. Then again, you could play as a female in Sword of Mana so I guess it can't be too bad. Still would be interesting. The sprite I thought was the opposite gender at first, and the girl could just be an angry guy instead, either gay or they'd have to change Dyluck to a girl.

Final Fantasy I:
Personally, I think it'd be awesome to play as 4 female light warriors. Since they never say anything, it'd really only be a graphical change.

Mario: (Since there are RPG versions, I'll post this here too)
The prince is now in another castle. Female italian plumber stomping on goombas to rescue a blond prince from Bowser (Bowletta)?

Final Fantasy VII:
It's more important that Tifa's a chick than Aeris.

Jazz Compositions, Check 'em out

I generally like Jazz, though Smooth Jazz is my favorite.

That being said, they're nice, I listened through them. Okay, Processing was a good one, my favorite of the 3.

Stories in Games: A Counterpoint to Usual Thinking

I agree that stories could be more interactive. I don't really want them to be so interactive that it just ends when you are bored with it, I like definite endings.

However, for some reason I don't like when you're given a bunch of choices in a dialogue box, because then you'll want to save before it and see what they all say. Also, sometimes games have bad endings if you don't pick the right choices, and I hate that.

I would rather be more in control of what the main character does, though. I hate when they give the enemy the last sphere they need for them to destroy the world in exchange for a character you don't really care for anyway. For example: In FFIV, you give a crystal in exchange for Rosa. I didn't like Rosa, I'd be fine with leaving her down there to die, so that the enemy didn't take the crystal. I could always go back to Mysidia and pick up a White mage there to replace her. And to top it off, she could have warped herself out of there anytime she wanted to.

For that matter, I'd rather have the main character like the character that I like, not have it be predetermined. If I were Tidus I'd be after Lulu instead of Yuna.

Otherwise, yeah, I pretty much agree.

The Great Console Count

It gets worse, I have 1 game on game gear, 3 on N64, and about 10 on the PS2.

So I play games on my PC most of the time.

Item carrying restriction

Oh, I just remembered, you could have the total amount of items unrestricted, but the amount you can carry into battle could be restricted. That's essentially what SD3 did.

We Did It First screenshot thread

Thanks for the comments!

The font is from a font pack in GamingGroundZero. Search under files, in Miscellaneous for fonts. I think it's labelled as an FF6 font (There'll be a Chrono Trigger and an FF7 font in there too). Then I just backed up the old RM2000 8 font files, and put the new fonts in.

I liked how it looks, so I'll probably include the font with the demo when I eventually stop playing Oblivion and continue working on my game.

Game Length

I've seen a few RM topics where the creator posted that they would have a 30+ hour game. I think I saw 100+ hours in one of them, but I don't remember which one, nor did I keep reading after that.

I like commercial games that are 10-30 hours long. Any longer and it just drags out too long for me, and I lose interest and go play something else. I like when I beat a game, but I don't always have that much free time to play games.

Game Length

Exactly the same here. I don't even have that mentality with commercial games, I'd rather them not be 60+ hours. I think amateur developers should focus more on the fun aspects. Have it take less time to level. Maybe have none or quick levelling, maybe make the walk speed faster or easy ways to get around the world. If it ends up being 30 minutes long, hey, 30 minutes of fun is a whole lot better than 75 hours of boredom.

Item carrying restriction

It could be like either having a travelling merchant with you, or a familiar (or messenger person or whatever) so that you could immediately sell the items that you find that you want to sell. Or, it could easily be remedied also by being able to teleport to town and back to the place where you were instantly. There are a few games like that (and it makes travelling a lot more convenient too).
