We Did It First screenshot thread

Just worked on this tileset today. I won't use this exact map, and this currently isn't for a game, but rather for a class.

What are you working on?

I work on Paradise Blue when I get some free time, but mostly I'm doing pixel backgrounds and tilesets this semester. They're for 2 classes, so they take priority.

A New Prodject With Nameing problems!

Try updating your version of RM2K3 to 1.08 or something.

Opinions on Equip Options (w/ regards to skill system)

I was thinking they could even be Weapon shop quests. ("Say, would you like to do me a favor? I could even give you a free Axe if you are able to do it for me" type of things)

This way, the player doesn't miss the quest, but can choose not to take it on. It seems the weapons are pretty balanced. Well, I'm sleepy right now, but they seem balanced to me. Except Lances seem superior to Swords with no drawbacks, and so do Katanas.

Top Ten Topic: Favorite 10 SNES games

1. Chrono Trigger: The RPG I replayed the most. With the exception of the gameboy Final Fantasy Adventure, only because it was portable and CT wasn't. The main flaw with this game for me was the Prehistoric era, I hate that era. Otherwise, one of the best RPGs. I would save just before the Black Tyrano or Son of Sun battles just because I loved the boss 2 battle musics so much.

2. Seiken Densetsu 3: The best in the mana series. The main flaw with this game for me is the huge intros, it makes me not want to replay them as much because they take so long. Otherwise, I think I'd based nearly everything I do on it, like graphical style, composing style, mapping style, and so on.

3. Final Fantasy V: Class change systems are awesome. It may not have had the most amazing story, graphics or whatever, but it was fun to make a class with the Conjure, Slash, and X-Fight abilities, and just mix and match abilities. Terrain was a fun one.

4. Bahamut Lagoon: I hate tactical RPGs, this is the only tactical RPG I've actually liked. Switching around parties, boosting up dragons power, modifying the terrain, the graphics, and music were awesome.

5. Secret of Mana: Not as great as SD3 (Especially if you level up your weapons/spells), but a good game still.

I actually didn't enjoy FFVI as much as most people did, but it's still good to learn from. Final Fantasy IV on the other hand is getting no where near this list, I hate FFIV. Mario Kart, Mario World, and Kirby could go on this list, but I would rather do a top 5 rather than a top 8.

Help Desk For Newbies

1> is it possible to make a picture hover over your map and not move? such as always having a Sun picture in the top right corner that I can change as time passes.

2> how do I make my message boxes a> smaller b> transparent?

3> how do I make it so that when I press a key, I can tell the game what to do? Such as Quiversee's jumping, or pressing a different key to bring up a "quick menu".

Also, does anyone know of any cool "tricks" tutorial pages that might include how to do these and other stuff?
1) In the Show picture command, make sure "Scrolls with map" is unchecked.

2) Go to the Battle layout tab in the database. Pick Alternative -> Small window -> Transparent. I believe the Classic one can let you do Small window too, but not transparent.

3) Make a parallel process event (It could be a common event if you want it to apply in every map). Have a Key input process command, make sure "Wait until key press" is checked, and check off the keys that you want it to check. Within the key input process command, make sure you set it to a variable that you aren't already using. Take a look at the numbers to the right of the keys. It'll show 1-4 for the arrow keys, 5 for enter, 6 for escape, and so on.

Then, after that key input process command, make a Conditional branch. Compare the variable to the number to the right of the keys. So, if you want to check to see if the Escape key was pressed, the variable must equal 6.

Then, do whatever you want to happen within that Conditional branch.

I don't feel like checking this up for RMXP, but it should be similar.

sprite help

Besides IDraw, there's Character Maker (Or Mucker) 1999 which I use often, Graphics Gale, and there's Pixen if you're on a Mac. You could do it in Photoshop too if you set a grid there, though I find it's more time consuming in Photoshop than it is in Character Maker.

Opinions on Equip Options (w/ regards to skill system)

I'd go for Option 2. I don't know how you set it up, but I think you could have a relatively small amount of weapon type choices in the beginning, then introduce more weapons later in the game as you go furthur. It may get a bit problematic if you have swords available early, as I think most people would stick with that. So if you have things like Spears, Daggers, Staves and Bows available in the beginning, then later shops add Axes and stuff, it won't be too overwhelming in the beginning.

Probably make some kind of quest to be a prerequisite to unlock a weapon type, maybe? It could also give a free weapon of that type, so at least players will have all of the weapon types to play around with for a short time.

Persoanl opinion

If you have RMXP, you might as well be using that. Otherwise, if you're using classes, I'd go with RM2K3 as RM2K doesn't have classes built into it like RM2K3 does.
