PROFESSOR_Q'S PROFILE

I've been a fan and follower of RPG Maker games of all sorts since 2012. My all-time favourite has to be "Love and War: Act I", closely followed by "The Way" and "Romancing Walker". (Yes, I'm weird that way!)

I'm not particularly good at game design, though I can write plot-lines reasonably well. While waiting for the rest of Love and War to come out, I've also written three full-length stories set in the Love and War universe, which you can read over at the Love and War forums. (I go by Professor Q over there, surprise, surprise!)

I also enjoy reviewing games, though I tend to write about games I enjoyed playing. If a review of mine sounds critical, it's meant to spur the developer to do better.

I'm also experimenting with RPG Makers XP and VX, so watch this space.

Yey! I'm so glad someone else played this game and liked it!!

I liked your review too. I wonder if this will start off a trend of using RPGs as aids to evangelization - somehow, I think Pope Francis would like this game. :-)

Suzy and freedom Review

Glad you liked the review, I rewrote it a couple of times to make sure I was getting the point across!

The CSI episode mirrored the set-up of "Suzy" closely, down to the boyfriend and a friend of his being the actual murderers, except that:

Tina ("Suzy"'s) father actually raped her, and the younger child in the family was the daughter, not her sister. Her motive for murder was that the father was now abusing her "younger sister", and she wanted to protect her.

"1981" can be found here: http://www.ifwiki.org/index.php/1981_%28game%29 (strangely, like your game, it was also written for a mini-comp, the theme in that case being "romance". Oops.)

I didn't really feel that the leap was too long, because the "write your paper" game created a nice sense of tension and impatience (plus, I've had several infuriating experiences writing papers myself!), so when "Let's kill my folks" came up, I was - if not ready - then at least primed for the idea.

I'm generally pretty bad at puzzles, so don't take my plaints about the mini-games too seriously. Thanks for the walkthrough, though!

Anyway, I shall definitely await your next opus. (I will eventually get down to writing a Dungeoneer review, once I actually manage to do something other than getting a "Game Over" or ending my victim's life...)

Happy Birthday Review

It’s still a great game. I’d recommend it to everyone who likes detective stories, and I really hope TearsOfNightfall will make more of these games, cause that’s clearly his talent. They don’t have to be sequels (story-linked), just something in the same structure.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. He has the talent to be RMN's Agatha Christie, if this work is anything to go by.

(And by the way, I agree with you about the maps: they had me puzzled for a long time. I was wondering how many of those objects on the floor were clues...)

Happy Birthday Review

Oops, sorry about that. I'll add one.

Good game and good review. I should have my own thoughts up shortly. :-)

Love and War: The Final Update

And the fandom rejoiced! :-)

This is extremely good news. Are we getting an Armin splash screen?

Just got out of the Alton Woods. Nearly ran out of healing items during the battle with the Gorn Jabola. I'm currently at level 8. I'm in the capital city and looking for the guild mentioned during the cut scene when you leave Alton. Which section of the city is it in?

It's not too hard, actually.

1. Head into Lorean (the capital), and go past the first section, the one with the gate that the guards have to open.

2. You'll come to a screen with a four-way crossing. Head north here, heading under a bridge to a place that has four dudes sitting round a table to your left (this is another side-quest, if your interested) and a potions shop to your right. Head past them, too.

3. You should now be in an area which has a guy selling potions to your left (there are more stalls that way) and two little girls playing "Here we go gathering nuts in May" (or "One, Two, Buckle my Shoe") to your right. Follow this path right, walking past a bald guy with his back to you (he's a "running gag") to head to the next screen.

4. The first building you see above you on the new screen has a guy standing next to it. If you want to pick up an easy $200, talk to the guy for a cutscene. (Further right is the way to the Royal Military Academy, which is another fairly long side-quest.) Enter the building (the entrance is fairly nondescript). This is the Explorer's Guild.

5. Talk to all the folks there for some fun details and background info, and then talk to the girl at the counter (right at the top of the room) for possible missions. Happy exploring!

My question is...does his Thievery level go above 3? It's been maxed at 3 for me for a while now...since I think the first recovery point in the woods...

I think 3 is the highest it will go. At least that's what happened when I played. There is still an element of chance (that is, a level of 3 doesn't mean "Steal" will be 100% effective), but the move certainly becomes more efficient.

Vote for your Favorite, New Fanfic

First of all, Henrik is all kinds of awesome in that picture. Fantastic work.

Second, Stokel's sabre looks rather piratical!

And, to the inimitable Admiral, third, thank you very, very much for the kind words and the links!! Though the story is strictly an "alternate continuity" (done to avoid "accidental spoilers"), it's the first serious piece of fiction I've tried writing in 15 years, and I must thank Love and War for the inspiration!

Next on the agenda: get more authors involved, so that Love and War gets its own category on FF.net, and not just "Misc. Games"!
