Final Fantasy IV - VX

There seem to be a bunch of nobs on here giving this game a hard time. If you really love Final Fantasy 2 there's no reason not to make it with better graphics. Cecil's face set is great, by the way.

The buildings do look a bit blocky though, like cereal boxes. I know that's what the SNES one was like but since you're re-making it you could take some liberties and make a nicer city. Just an idea.

P.S. before the trolls.
YES I say FF2 and not 4. I also spell industrialise with an S. It's not a mistake, that's how you do it!!!!

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes people do go as far as trolling sometimes so yeah I agree with you there, but so far, I have been getting very positive feedback which I am pleased with so, thanks guys.

The faceset is from the PSP version of the game, but I will upscale them using fractals in photoshop when the time is right.

I couldn't agree with you more about the town tileset. Although it's very hard to do this in RPG Maker without extensive work because of how square VX wants to make everything. I have started though by adding the domes to the roofs.

And you are in your rights in calling it FF2, It WAS FF2 in the US and Europe, at least, when I first played it, it was. However it is really IV (4). Very confusing, especially when I always think IV means 5. Don't know why, I just do! :P

You misspelled "Their" as "Thier" in the prologue right before you shove off to Mist Cave. So, yeah......fix it ^_^
And.......you misspelled "Annihilated" for the game over screen XD
Thanks for notifying me, now fixed :)

Well, I can see a pretty big issue just around the end: the defeat screen says "ANNIALIATED" instead of annihilated:P

Cause : Lack of spellcheck in Photoshop! :P
Don't worry, will fix.

Okay there's been some silence from me for a while (which is unusual) :P but I've been immensely busy this week with life issues blah blah.

Right now, I'm encoding the Prelude and first 10 minutes gameplay demo which I am shortly going to upload to my YouTube channel for preview here. Shouldn't be long now! :P

Been a couple of days since my last update, and I haven't done as much as I had done during the past week, but thought Id share some things I have been doing.

Well, for one thing, I've been working on Zeromus's signiture Big Bang Attack code. I had done it before, but I wasn't pleased with his fixed damage cap.

I have taken into account many factors, including Edge's Steal command, which allows him to steal the Dark Matter inventory item which will reduce Zeromus's Big Bang by 1/2.

Here is the big bang stats;

Without Dark Matter stolen-
-3500 damage regular if Cecil's level is above LV. 60 (Meaning his HP is around 4700 mark, also the other characters would just-about-be surviving enough for Rosa's Cure4! Variance of 20.

With Dark Matter stolen (If in your inventory)
-1400 damage regular (per character)

Level 80 or higher-
Big Bang won't ignore defense but will deal a damage of 4000 near enough to each character, but by this time most of your characters will be able to survive it (just.)

ALL versions of Big Bang will inflict Sap which quickly saps your parties HP, and if not cured quick enough, HP will run out and they will faint :P

I have done it this way because frankly I thought the amount of damage Big Bang in the PSP version sucked, his fight was just way too easy.

Okay, next is his attack pattern. He's quite limited with his moves but I will agree all of which are deadly, especially when they are used in combination with Big Bang afterwards. (He says Charging about 3 seconds prior to using it so you can slip in a Cure4 quick enough if needed!)

Regular:

Big Bang - chance of 8/10 of being used. Literally he will use this near enough every move, but not as often as you think. The custom skill, Charging, is very complex that I have written that takes many factors into account and the chances of Big Bang from being used. He still will almost always use it though. :P

Black Hole - This nullifies all magics, including Zeromus's sap, so this can be beneficial to you if you are in critical but will dispel haste, slow, shell, protect, float, pratically all magics. This makes this fight somewhat harder but sometimes it can save your party from HP running out. His chances of using this are also 8/10. (Which makes Black Hole, Big Bang, almost 50/50.)

Bio- This will inflict poison based damage to all characters and inflict Sap if it isn't inflicted already by Big Bang. 7/10 chance of it being used.

Meteor - When Zeromus' HP is around 35% (that's < 4428/155000) he will use Meteor on every move doing variable damage to each character (998-1400).

Counter Attacks

Zeromus counter attacks if certain magics are used against him.

Zeromus will counter attack all magics and summons used against him with Flare on a character.
If slow is used on Zeromus his chances of using Black Hole are raised by 10%, meaning he could use it on the next round straight away.

So you are probably asking me, can you actually defeat this guy?

Yes, I have battled him many times on a level as low as 55 for my party. He actually becomes harder on levels above 80. With the right equipment, and making sure that you steal Dark Matter as quickly as you can, you may just be able to defeat him.

Combinations that will help to defeat him are;
Cecil - Attack/ Protect / Cura
Rosa - Holy / Cure4, Slow on Zermous, Haste on Rydia
Kain - Jump, Dragons Breath if you are daring and a Lancer now and then
Edge- Steal if you havent already, Throw the best weapons you have
Rydia - Only use Flare, Bahamut or if you have it, Meteor, since it almost always does 9999. Flare and Bahamut will do around 6000 if you are lucky. When running out of MP using Pysch helps.

Explanation of the Dark Matter item.

-I'm putting the optional superboss, Zeromus EG, that is in the GBA and PSP releases of FFIV in my remake also. I'm also putting in my own dungeon that can only be accessed if you stole Dark Matter from Zeromus.
Basically with Dark Matter in your inventory it will cap Zeromus's Big Bang damage to around 1500 per character, making the fight easier. It will also serve as an instant 9999 once Zeromus is almost dead and you know you are running out of MP!

So, this has been quite possibly the most complex boss enemy I've done in RPG Maker so far. I'll post a video up soon of the fight against him on my YouTube channel :P
