man, I wish i can make a 10 hour rpg, but im not even close. I think u got unlucky and some scripts happened to clash with each other, causing some unfixable problems.

Actually, I gotta apologize: Sorry, bicfarmer.

I was in a bad place last night and my skin was a little thinner than usual.

I'm actually glad you mentioned the crashing because I went back through and found the script problem. It spiked my lockpocking minigame... But a worthy sacrifice on the altar of gammak to make a game that doesn't crash every 3 battles.

So. Finally. A stable game. I played through the WHOLE THING. Not one crash.

Don't use fyxinput is all I can say.

At Last Alone: Canyon of Fires

Also, it's gotten to the point where I dread seeing that I've gotten comments on this game.

Nothing like spending 5 years on something for it to be a broken, shitty mess.

Got as far as the canyon maze before the game crashed. This game isnt bad but it doesnt seem too polished. The lockpicking gets easily broken for some reason where it just stops responding to inputs after a few picks. Most NPC's dont say anything interesting and can easily block back alleys as they wander around, making town navigation difficult. Direct pressure heals for about 16-30 HP which is pretty much useless. Battles arent too difficult since everyone seems to have high crit rates. However, for some reason alot of enemies early on have counterattack and my party has no magic so there is no way to deal with it other than luck which felt a bit unfair, but it doesnt seem to have a high chance of success so it's not a big deal.

I assume this game is much longer than the other 2 games in this series, so its kinda sad that I ran into so much problems. This game probably needs more polish and bug fixes.

Yeah, there is a major problem with it and I'm not entirely happy with how buggy the fyxinput script made it.

Not sure which build you're playing - but there have been some substantial changes just in the past few weeks. But if you downloaded in the past few days, then things are still broke.

I'm pretty upset with how buggy it got... I really don't know what else to do aside from strip out a bunch of what makes the game even slightly unique.

Maybe it's time for a complete overhaul. :/

I give up! New version!

Thanks, all!

Yeah, I still like the mechanic. And the reasons why I put it in in the first place are still reasons why I want it in there.

There's just something busted about it the script. I think it's not playing well with my anti-lag script, honestly. So it came down to: scrap the system or re-do EVERY map. I tried contacting the dev of the script (he has moved on to other things, understandably), deleting scripts (didn't work), moving scripts (didn't work), finding a different qte script (would have required getting rid of the battle symphony side-view battlers)...

I think there were some people who didn't even notice the bug. They were playing for a little bit and closing out/restarting so regularly it didn't matter. And I've heard from other people that, as long as you fought a battle regularly, it seemed to work consistently - if you made a bunch of map transfers without a battle is when it would glitch. And then others were fine with the bug and restarting - the whole "you get what you pay for, we're all just trying to make something in rpgmaker and sometimes shit is buggy" mentality. Which I'm good with. I've certainly grinded my way through buggy rpgmaker games.

Thanks for the support, all!

At Last Alone: Rescue at Moranthia

Hi DJBeardo!
Thank you for the swift answer: I was at last able to finish the game. The first version I played was AtLastAlone1.exe (without RTP), the second you uploaded ALARAM.exe (with RTP): I think that's the source of the problem (change in the folders and files). I downloaded your two other games, but unfortunately tactical stategy (Risen) and too much stealth sequences(Canyon of Fires) discouraged me to start (the former) or finish (the latter) both. The quality of the games was not by far involved, just my own preferences of play.
For a first game ("start small""), I salute the great work you achieved. I'm looking forward now to the announced next instalment of your saga!
Best wishes,
Old Timer

Thanks for your kind words! I'm sorry that the other two games in the series weren't your style of game. You know, I've heard from a bunch of people that they respected that I was able to make a tactics game in RPGMaker, but they sure don't want to play it. Ha!

As for the stealth moments in Canyon of Fires - sorry! The prison sequence can get easier if you talk to the joke brothers; each joke draws out another guard so you can take away 5 guards from the path. But, as I was playtesting things, I found that you could just hold down shift and yolo-run through them all as long as you knew where to go. In fact, holding shift and running is the key to all the stealth parts - the guards are faster than your walk but slower than your run.

Anyway, thanks for playing the game and I hope it gave you a few hours of enjoyment! I hope you find some other games on the site that you like too!

Help!
I don't know wether there is still someone checking that thread: I post it just in case. I'm completely stuck in the game, unable to find the rope ladder, despite may many repeated complete searches of every floor of Moranthia castle and village (there is now no more fiends in the place!).
Thank you so much for your answer!
Hopefully,
Old Timer

I hope too that the problem is not related with the game crashing I experiment when trying to talk to the last captive of the prison (Unable to find file: Graphics/Pictures/AdraedEmoset-7)!

Yep, I'm still following this page.
I have to say that the rope ladder is related to talking to the captive in the prison - he gives you the ladder. Sorry for the error - I don't know why this is happening now given the download has been up for years. I have updated it and it looks like it is working okay now. Lemme know if you have any more problems!

Nevermind, I reinstalled the game and the bug disappeared. Maybe something went wrong during the extraction. I finished the game satisfied with both the gameplay and the story. I know you said you're on to other things in your Reddit post, but I do sincerely hope for a sequel :)

Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad you were satisfied!

Yes, finally finished the game without any more problems. Thanks a lot for the quick response. Btw, is the ending hinting at a sequel perhaps?

That's great! I think you may be the first person to get through it!

Yes, I have a rough outline for a sequel. Not sure how long it will take. I have a few other ideas I want to finish before I move on to that.

Hello, there's a bug that I've encountered during the prison break part. When the fourth guard comes (during the "joke" session), he gets stuck at one point and this prevents the scene from playing properly, thus preventing the game from progressing.
Oh no! That's terrible!
I have made an update and you can re-download and move your save over. That should fix it for you.
Thanks!
Thanks for fixing it but now I've encountered another error. After opening the final chest in the Scarlet Cave (after placing the Skull) the game crashes and gives the error below.

Script 'Scriptbox Errors' line 301: SyntaxError occured.

unexpected $undefined
$ Game_system.clear_memory

Dangit! I thought I found all those. That was an old script call when I thought the game was leaking memory. Found and deleted! Again, a redownload and a move save should do you. Thanks for working through this! You're getting near the end! :D

So the timeline of your games goes like this: Risen -> Rescue at Moranthia -> Canyon of Fires? I haven't played the other At Last Alone games, but I'll make sure to do so one day. Anyway, I found a pretty serious bug. Every time I try to view Cal's skills, the game crashes and quits to desktop. Other than that, it seems very promising. You deserve more recognition.

By the way, Cal reminds me of Lady Maria from Bloodborne :)

The firm timeline is Risen -> Rescue at Moranthia -> Canyon of Fires. However, they were developed as Rescue at Moranthia -> Risen -> Canyon of Fires. Rescue and Risen can be played in any order. But Rescue was my first game and has very "first game" issues.

As for the crash... I can't recreate this. But I do know that I had an old script that really messed up with the menu. But that's been gone for months. I am curious if other people are having this problem? Which map were you on? Where are you in the game?

Lady Maria: I've never played Bloodborne, but I hear it's badass! Waiting for it to come out for switch... I only have a switch.
