ALEX IS: A Two-Day Collaborative Game Review

author=LordBlueRouge
For anyone interested, here's the original completed game thread on gamingw.
And here it is on saltw.

Thanks for those links! It's rather interesting to read that. And you can even find links to information about the other games in the series, too!

Some of the people were unnecessarily harsh about the games though, that's was disheartening to read. Just skipped all maps, totally missing the point.

But fortunately, those who "understood" the series really had fun playing the games.

These projects were a logistical nightmare, but very rewarding once you put them together. I actually like the factory map for example, but when I received it it had several game breaking bugs and was much more unforgiving (I replaced several game over screens with resetting sections). It was also quite long compared to most of the other maps, which breaks the flow. For future games this was mitigated by either a skip button or open world map design.

Thanks for clearing that up! I was only taking a guess about the Factory map, based on what the NPC says in that map.

It's really great to be able to read your thoughts about this game series all these years later! You should make a blog post with stuff you remember from those days making these games.

Must've been a great esperience to be a part of that community back then!

As far as I'm concerned, you're an RPG Maker legend! ;)

[RM2K3] CBS - is it worth it?

@Soeufans The new versions indeed make it easier. I'm just speaking from my point of view. For "me" it's not worth it creating a CBS in rm2k/2k3.

But I cannot speak for "you"! If you think it's worth it for you, then it is!

I really respect what you did for the Spanish RPG Maker community, Soeufans! All the best ;)

Stratego and Soul Blazer in rm2k? I'd love to see those.

I'll PM you in a couple of days.

RMN Christmas Card 2020

*sweats nervously in BQ7*

I still think we can make that happen.

Hey I'll let you know I'm not dropping the ball thank you very much!

I'm just going through a rut, but the game is getting released at some point if it's the last thing I do.

Good to know! May you find the energy and motivation to do it!

[RM2K3] CBS - is it worth it?

author=Soeufans
Its worth it? for me, it is, why? i don't know any language programing like RGSS and JS, thats why i dont use XP, VX, VX ACE, MV and MZ, so doing it in 2k3, its already fine for me, to make all my custom system with comands and events witohut any script or pluguin involved, coding like this, has his "own art" but here, talks one, that have ben 21 years in 2k and 2k3, and dont talk about japanes games, they do it even more insane engines hahaha.

I know ;)

I'm an old fan of yours Soeufans! I've played your tutorial games, such as Stratego back in 2002, an amazing strategy CBS! And the action CBS Soul Blazer! I am a big fan of the Spanish RPG Maker games and used to visit HellSoft frequently :D

I LOVE RPG Maker 2k/2k3, as I said before, a CBS can be made in these engines.
But I don't think it's worth it because it's an inefficient way to make it.

I can understand not wanting to change engines or learn how to use a new engine, I'm still using rm2k/2k3 to this day.

I can also appreciate that a rm2k/2k3 veteran will take less time and effort coding in rm2k/2k3.

My point is that, YES you can make an awesome CBS using rm2k/2k3, BUT it will take an unreasonable amount of work since the engine was not designed for that.

I've been into RPG Maker since 2002, my favorite RPG Maker versions are still rm2k/2k3!
Yet I wouldn't make a CBS in either since it's more reasonable to make it in a different engine.

I'm not criticizing people who make CBS in rm2k/2k3 either! It's cool.

I just think that if they want to create a CBS, then they could use their time better by using a different engine or learning how to code in XP or ACE VX (something I haven't done yet myself...).

[Poll] Sub Vs. Dub

author=Sooz
That said, I go for subs nearly all the time because it's harder to tell when the acting is bad. (It is usually bad.)

I have yet to watch a single anime with bad acting. Not saying they don't exist.

I only watch anime from the 80s up till early 2000s.

Only the subs makes sense for me, since I don't enjoy the dubs I've tried.

I can understand that feeling of nostalgia for a specific dub a person grew up with, even if it's bad, though.

Anyways, what I said was in good fun.

2021 Misaos - Thoughts, Ideas, Plans

Also, I said we're discouraging rips not that we're kicking people out for using them. We've yet to purge any rip games and won't in the future as long as they hold up to our current rip standards of "don't fuck over fellow indies with your ripping practices/stick to old, outdated rips that won't get anyone sued pls"

Someone wanting to use FF4 rips? go forth, I won't tell.
Someone ripping Stardew Valley or Hero's Realm? GTFO
Someone using FF5 rips in a commercial game? You can GTFO as well, unless you show me proper proof that Square let you

(and yes, these are the basic rips rules and have been for years now. I have denied a few games that thought it was cute to steal shit from games like Undertale and Corpse Party without permission.)

That is reassuring!

[Poll] Sub Vs. Dub

Go Subs or go home! :P

Why is this still a discussion?

(...the all time best is still learning the damn language and watching content in it's original undistilled form, but ain't nobody got time for that!)

[RM2K3] CBS - is it worth it?

A CBS in RM2k/RM2k3 is not worth it.

Don't get me wrong, it CAN be done but it's too much work to achieve something that can be easily achieved in any of the other Makers starting with XP.

There's all sorts of things that can and will go wrong with a CBS in RM2k/RM2k3, if you need to make a single change to the system you are looking at re-writing the whole thing. Making a simple process will take ages, specially if you have several characters, items and magic/skills.

I would not recommend it.

Alternatively, either spice up the DBS with some event commands or wrestle with the numbers to make it interesting.

But hey, I'm not saying NOT to do it! If that's what you feel you should do then go for it, just be warned that it will take a lot of effort and thankless work.

2021 Misaos - Thoughts, Ideas, Plans

author=Liberty
idallai, we already have a set time - until end of December. Voting happens all January (with no nominations).

I see.
What I was suggesting was, leaving the voting period as it is, but not allowing games that were released after September to be nominated, those games would be eligible for next year's Misaos instead, allowing them more time to potentially grow in popularity.

Because if you release a game in December, it will be lost in the limbo and never be considered for Misaos due to the short period of time people have to try it out.

Also, light-hearted names fits the site and have been carried over as a kind of historical memory. Some things just live on as in-jokes and memes and it'd be a sad day to see them disappear.

I can respect that. I think it would be neat if all the other categories names reflected that as well, per example the "Dark Souls of RMN".

author=Liberty
Also, while I like the idea of smaller type categories, stuff like that doesn't really go well because people just vote whatever in them - a lot of people don't pay attention to things like title screens (you see them for all of 10 seconds).

Well that sucks, but I understand why it wouldn't work then.
