Description

So, in between arguing about menu systems, putting the 40-hour JRPG you're making on hiatus for the sixth time, and posting pictures of women pointing accusingly at cats sitting at dinner tables on the RMN Discord server, you played about a dozen RPG Maker games this year. Most of them sucked, a few stood out in certain areas, and one or two were really legitimately good. That's how it goes.

But you didn't tell anyone!

You kept it to yourself! You selfish jerk! You didn't nominate them for Misaos or write reviews or anything! You probably didn't even leave a comment! And now nobody else knows whether they're any good or not!

There are 61 games right now which were completed in 2019, are eligible for Misaos, but have no reviews.

Here is a list of games you can review!

The first 61 games in this list - the first four pages, and the first game on the fifth page - are all of the unreviewed noncommercial games which were completed in 2019. And actually I think there's one game in there that has a review with no rating, but whatever. We'll count that one too.

Everything after that is older, and thus not eligible. Don't be going to page seven of this list and reviewing something. It won't count.

Your mission - your Misaossion, as it were - is to find games on that list, review them, and submit the reviews by the end of November. And then, if you think the game actually did a good job at something, nominate it for a Misao by clicking the little "Nominate" button on the game page with the award ribbon.

A game doesn't have to be the best game of the year for you to nominate it for a Misao. There are lots of Misao categories, ranging from "Best Game Title" to "Best Use of Owls." It doesn't even have to be the game you would personally choose to win the category you're nominating it for. It just has to do something neat enough that you think it's worth being in the running, so people can vote on it.

Technically, the thing you have to do to get an achievement for this event is just to review a game. Misao nominations are anonymous. But please do them anyway!

RULES

  • Review at least one non-commercial game which was completed in 2019, and which doesn't already have a review.
  • If you review the same game as someone else, that's fine, you can both get credit, as long as it was on this list at the start of the month.
  • If you review a game that is completed mid-November, that's fine too, and you can also get credit for that.
  • It is the "Date Completed" in the game's sidebar that matters for eligibility. Not the date of the last update, the last blog post, or the most recent download.
  • The reviews need to be accepted to the site - which means they need to abide by the review rules.
  • The event ends at midnight UTC, November 30, 2019. Your review must be submitted to the event by then.
  • If you share at least one of your reviews on any social media platform, and provide a link in the event comments to prove you did so, you get another 5 makerscore for free.

REWARDS

  • The 2019 Review Award - Worth 10 Makerscore. Awarded for submitting at least 1 eligible review.
  • Palette Swap of the 2019 Review Award (ice award) - Worth 11 Makerscore. Awarded for submitting at least 5 eligible reviews.
  • Palette Swap of the 2019 Review Award (desert award) - Worth 12 Makerscore. Awarded for submitting at least 10 eligible reviews.
  • Palette Swap of the 2019 Review Award (lava award) - Worth 13 Makerscore. Awarded for submitting at least 15 eligible reviews.
  • Palette Swap of the 2019 Review Award (shadow award) - Worth 14 Makerscore. Awarded for submitting at least 20 eligible reviews.
  • Public Indecency Award - Worth 5 makerscore. Awarded for sharing an eligible review on social media.

One.

And oh.. I don't do social media. Is that badge forever lost or may I pester someone else to link it for my purpose? True indecency.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Hmm. The goal of the social media badge is for you to share other people's RPG Maker games with the public, so more people hear about those games and potentially play them.

If you literally have no account on any social media platform (not even Facebook?) and you get your brother to do it instead, then sure, I guess that fulfills the same purpose.

My goal with this badge is definitely NOT to get people on rpgmaker.net to start using social media; that's not a fate I would wish on anyone. My goal is to get people on social media to start using rpgmaker.net.
Oops, double post.

Edit: Well, at least I can give it some use because I was wondering... There's a Misao for "Most Promising Demo", and I want to review and nominate a game for that. But the rules of the event only mention completed games? So... that review won't count?

Thank you.
And yes, I absolutely agree. It's the greatest blessing to be outside that box, imho. (and yes, that includes having dodged facebook. It feels great.)
Cool.

That review and nomination is definitely appreciated, and the review will still earn you makerscore like normal. But this event is focused on reviewing completed games from this year, so it won't count for the event.

I haven't noticed this till now.
Huh. You know, maybe I will jump on this, it's been too long since I reviewed a game for another user.

Please review my game for this event. It's really short and very fun. I assure you it's much better than Zero Gear Fighter or Dragon Ascension. It's a pretty good indicator on how much I've grown in game design in the past 3 years.
Crypt Challenge, yes? (also don't worry, peeps usually don't take one game score to predict the others, though 3 years of improvement sounds great! gj).

Honestly, I am not sure how this'll event will pan out, even though it'd be super helpful for misaos. There was a lot to do last weekend I am sure, but it'd be nice if this weekend more reviews could be approved. (if after that it'd also need waiting 2 weeks it'd.. uh... well.. not spell much good when the event ends in two weeks?). I mean you could technically stack 'em to death. But do you want to?

Hooh. Turovero is taking longer than I thought to get through. XD I really hope I'll finish it in time to get a review in for the event.
Yeah I was curious too. I have a couple of reviews in limbo right now and I'm sure others do too, so I'm wondering if that's discouraging people from participating?

Kinda understandable though, since it looks like the last queue update was pretty big.
It is discouraging for me as we haven't even received an update or message on things. Nothing wrong with having a busy week, but if a review event is going on ... let us know? I know soli used to do that when things were delayed (read: took a week during an event). Maybe even get some help if it's too much? If the staff doesn't care about the event, why should I?
I've had some in queue since the third. 4 reviews, actually (all submitted between the 3rd and the 6th). I'm not doing more (I don't like stacking pending things in general. Plus, I mean, my goal was to beat piano, which heck if I know how many he's doing. I also want to yknow, review games that preferably aren't reviewed yet? No way to know that, either!)
its probably because the site is under staffed
It's true... And I'm sorry if I come off demanding, but really, I just wish for a comment on this. Like "hey, they'll all get approved eventually, just work by yourself meanwhile, and we'll put em up later" or "There'll be a delay, but we'll hand out badges after the original date as long as they fit, once approved". That's all I hope for, really. A timeframe would be lovely, but anything goes. That's a reasonable thing to ask for. Just that.

And it's not coming : ( There's nada, niente, nothing. Just silence to work in silence, which doesn't feel like an event. If there's noone to look after an event, I'd rather the event wasn't there. If there's too much going on already - take it easy! Stop adding more! There didn't have to be a review event now. That kinda thing.
(nvm the rules still specify reviews should be added to the event page before it ends... not gonna happen when it'll take another 2 weeks for the next batch of reviews to arrive. IF this weekend will see some approved.. if that rule changed.. change it. Here.)

As far as I know, the only staff members on RMN that can actually see the content of submissions is Liberty, halibabica, kentona, and probably ankylo. The other staff/mods can see what's on the queue (spoiler alert: there's, like, 20 reviews in there!), but can't see the contents thereof (ie: we get Anti-climbing Paint).

There was at least one other review event that hit a snag with the approval/denial process being on the slow side. At least, I think so? I could be mis-remembering. That aside, I understand the anxiety of waiting on the approval/denial notice, especially when there's an event running. I'm not sure if I, personally, would want access to the submission queue at all times. However, even a temporary volunteer position to let things run more smoothly might be a consideration?
