IROG'S PROFILE

Hi all !

I like 16-bits RPGs (especially action RPGs) where you feel the quest behind the lines of code. I also like strategy, puzzle solving, immersive stories, tabletop RPG and LARP.

I'm a hobbyist C programmer who likes to work on custom game mechanics. My very first project was a very basic map generator for Genesia, aka Ultimate Domain https://rpgmaker.net/users/Irog/locker/UltimateDomainWorld.zip

I also want to help developers polishing their projects with my player feedback. So I'll be happy to test your game !

See you around,
Irog

This boss is one tough challenge on charge attack skill. It's hard battle we like!

Crystalis: Sonata of the Far-Away Sky

Awesome!!! What a great old school action RPG! And it is HARD in a good manner. That giant flying swamp monster kicked my a** for quite a wile until I more or less mastered the charge attack.

The controls are very good except an issue on charge attack: some times the charge attack gets released while I still hold the 0 key.

The long quiz gets quite tedious. But I managed to get the Iron Necklace, playing the quiz as a mastermind game.

Here is how I did it:
I noticed that 7 wrong answers terminate the quiz. So I intentionally gave wrong answers to questions 1 to 6. Then the quiz stops at the first new wrong answer. Getting the next question indicates that the answer I just gave was correct.

Main Gauche?

Sounds like a good idea. If the benefits of both are well balanced, it'll be a plus. As the dagger is pretty useless against range attack while the shield provides decent cover against it, I would propose something like (made up numbers):

In melee
Shield:
  • 35% chance of blocking enemy attack

Dagger:
  • 15% chance of blocking enemy attack

  • 10 % chance of counter-strike using the dagger (use of dagger attack stat) but the enemy attack succeeds.

  • 5 % chance of blocking enemy attack and perform counter-strike using the dagger.

Against range attack
Shield:
  • 25% chance of blocking enemy missile thrown at you

  • 5% chance of blocking enemy missile thrown at an ally in back line when you're in front line

Dagger:
  • 2% chance of blocking enemy missile thrown at you (not much but still better than nothing)

Switching equipment during battle is a good idea. But is has to cost an action turn.

A Journey's End

Good to see you're back on action RPG. They are my favorite! I was sad that Lands of Lunori coding fed you up but happy to see you on a very promising new project.

I like your game atmosphere, especially the cat-like characters. It made me smile as I'll team up with some in the near future at a larp event. You really put a lot of nice features together in your game: melee/range combat, spell casting, crafting, dungeon puzzle... and you made them work quite well.

Here are some contributions to your game: some bugs I found and some improvement proposals.

I equipped the Magi Band that increases magic evasion by 10% and got the following error message when a Silron from Ferorn Plains cast a poison spell on me:
Script '•XAS' line 3488: NameError occured.
uninitialized constant XAS_WORD::EVADED

I charged up a bow attack and got this error message when releasing the attack:
Unable to find file:
Audio/SE/Explosion1

Both above errors terminate the game.

The help menu doesn't explain the functionality of key W.

Cancellation of teleport spell from destination menu costs Sp as if the spell got cast.

Buying the Medecine III crafting book gives access to all medicine recipes. So books I and II are useless. Medecine III should give access to powerful potions but should not include the ones from previous books.
Crafting menu would then use categories "Medecine", "Materials", ... and not refer to a specific book. For example when owning Medecine book I and III, the Medecine craft menu contains: Tonic, Kalikai Stone, Acrina, Aythali Tonic and Salarin Stone.

Selection of magic target shows side scrolling text. Static text would enhance fast readability.

I hope this helps.

SkyE

Excellent game! I like the dynamic action shooting and dodging (not much shielding for me). The plot makes good connections between action scenes. It seems very basic but will you figure out what’s happening on your first play through?
