April was a Fool

:D Glad you like the look of it~

Something tells me that the title is a big hint towards when this game is going to be released hmhmhmmmmmmm~ (though it's hardly the joke it was originally intended to be anymore)

Born Under the Rain

Ah, nope it was probably sealed restoration. I had no idea what that state was doing to me. At first I thought it meant I couldn't USE healing spells, but that wasn't it. Then I thought they would do 0 if I used them on someone in the state, which also wasn't it. Didn't catch onto the fact that it might have been healing less.

Is there a place where the states are actually described that I missed? Because most I just tried to discern through situation. (I opened the Controls and Info txt file and didn't see anything mentioning them.)

Might be something to consider adding in there. I know it's hard to describe states midgame (especially when the game starts away from civilization, so you can't just play the ol' library that explains stuff card), but putting in the txt file for curious minds would be simple enough and appreciated.

Born Under the Rain

Started playing this today, just an hour in so far. (which puts me on the second trip to the pyramid after returning to town the first time.) Enjoying it so far, though my amazing ability to repetitively fail to read the words "Once per Battle" has screwed me over on more than a few strategies o;

I found the first boss battle dragged on a bit longer than I cared for, but the regular battles so far have been nice. Masud seems to be the most important character on the party though - maybe I'm doing something wrong, but he hits the hardest, his healing spell is one of the best, and he tanks well too. Almost all my battles end up skewed towards him. Rashida is second - again she tanks well and her one time drain skill allows her to tank quite as long.

I'm mostly confused with Odion in battle. He doesn't seem to have many strengths? (outside of his revive spell, which is one use only - which yes, I got slapped in the face realizing that one the hard way) For the most part, I just used him first to drop enemy defense before using the hard hitting physical skills with everyone else.

When his magic is buffed his first move can be okay, but it always felt more bang for my buck to use the defense dropping skill instead.

Masika's AoE spell ... didn't feel very useful at all. It never hit for enough to make it worth using over something else. (especially when you have those enemies that use Illuminate and can way outheal your damage output if you aren't efficiently maximizing what you do each turn.)

Maybe I'm missing something about magic attacks - so far they just feel inferior in the cases of both characters who lean towards them.

Question about the skill that you get from the snake fez um... Pale Wind. it says it heals 25% of the User's maxHP to the party, but when I used it the total it healed for the characters was not the same. (Masud was the one casting it. He had Rashida healed for more than Odion and Masika.) I found this odd, since the User's maxHP is a constant and so it shouldn't heal less to two out of four characters?)

I like the use of small maps and big maps, it sets the mood well for crawling through tiny spaces and main rooms as we move about. I have a feeling now that the place has opened up I'm going to get lost pretty quickly - but I the first bout in the place was easy enough to navigate. The town was really cute. Small - but it has a lot of personality and the NPCs are charming. The merchant that wouldn't shut up and the girl in the magic place stood out. They were some of my favourite personalities in the game.

I have access to one 'major spoiler' and noticing tiny little nods to that entertains me. So far the game is well written (with only one instance where I got annoyed by a double use of a word in a sentence), but the characters haven't had much time to show their personalities fully yet. I'm not done though.

Wonderful work on all the customer sprite behaviors. The one where Masud jumps into the pot was especially well done~ and I love the animation when he gets an item. PLUS! His mask is sprited so well~ As the one who drew that mask, I was delighted to see how it looked on the sprite.

Anyway, so far this is a well constructed game. Congrats to everyone involved for finishing something that looks this polished. I'll come back with more to say once I've completed it.

Phew - It's so nice to see an actual completed game with my art in it that I didn't play any role of development in. I think this is the first time that's actually happened! :D

Castle Chase

@Ebeth - Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the game and found the flow of the events and choices easy to follow. :)

Punch Bears Review

Thanks for the review! It always pleases me when people read past the game's simple concept and structures, and see into the true heart of the game.

I quite enjoy the last sentence of this review a lot~ Thanks again!

I've had days like this. XD

That line is pretty much pulled straight from the reality of the day I made the game haha

Punch Bears

@iddalai: Sorry I meant to answer this question AGES ago, and I see you already found your answer, but I'll put this here for other inquiring minds:
No.
There is no way to beat Punch Bears Version R. It's about staying alive as long as you can. much like the inevitable struggle of life, eventually the bear will be punched. The joy is seeing how many turns you can last!

@Max McGee: I'm glad you found it charming (and lucky?)

U.U.P. Gemstar

Gotta write that blog post saying that lol ---someday---

Essence Enforcer

I was able to play much further now~ ((Rita's move to do extra damage against enemies depending on how many Essences they have is a lot more useful then the damage boost skill she had in the previous versions!)

I found a few errors, including a couple of times when the game crashed.

The first few are places with typoes or text cut off. The first link is the same as the one in the PM I sent earlier:

Shortly after this line as well, Pat runs off the screen, but then runs back and stands over top of where Aticia is.

These last two are game crash errors:

Occurred when simply hitting spacebar to advance text in the conversation before battle.

Occurred when fighting bugs with Aticia and Rita - I was trying to have Ati use Mending on Rita.

Still enjoying this game a lot!

Essence Enforcer

I've played a bit more of this!
After a gruelingly long back and forth game with the parasite, I lost the battle of attrition and it killed me. Rita by default seems a lot weaker battle wise then either Pat or Ethan? The parasite didn't hit with a large variety of elements, and that caused her to be locked out of a lot of her useful moves. (Most turns she was using her healing move when both characters had a 'cannot be healed' status effect because that's all she had.) I'm sure there's a better way to take the battle on that I'm missing though lol It was healing about as fast as I could damage it towards the end.

Is it recommended to take Precepts off of Pat to give to Rita?

That aside, is there a way to skip a character's turn? In situations like I mentioned in the hide box, I'd rather skip the turn, save the element and use the precept on a turn where it will actually be useful.

Anyway! I'm really enjoying this demo a lot. The characters are a lot of fun (Ethan in particular amuses me to no end haha) and the battle system is really neat and makes you think. Hopefully I'll be able to avenge myself.
