Screenshot Survival 20XX

Hello, Screenshot Thread, old friend.

Screens from probably the last game I made in VX, before moving onto MV. It was a good run (late 2010-November 2017).

Icebound

I dunno if I''ll just leave the IGMC version as a download or make tweaks later down the line.

Aaand completed gam No. 4 is done. 9 years of RM'ing... only 4 completed projects. I am shamed.

Regrets and Desires

Happy New Year, everyone. ^^

I hope you're still working on Linus, bp. I've never forgotten about that particular project, hehe. As for my art, yes, it has 'levelled up' quite a bit over the last year or so xD. I'm making a concerted effort to get better at most of my creative hobbies (there, resolution for 2018 confirmed).

Regrets and Desires

(gives massive group hug to everyone)

(takes past regrets and dumps it in the trashcan)

Now with that out of the way, I'd better get mucking with RPG Maker MV and try to aquaint myself with all these plug-ins 0_o.

Also, I can introduce you guys to Granblue. >:D

...

.....

.......

Excuse me while I ramble about it in a spoiler.

GBF? What's that?

An abbreviation for Granblue Fantasy, one of the biggest mobile gacha games in Japan. To say it is huge over there is an understatement.

It is a freakin' PHENOMENON. Also known as Grindblue Farmstasy. Better than FEH and FG/O combined, in my honest opinion. I've been playing since August after quitting FE:H back in July.

And why should I be interested in it?

If the names Nobou Uematsu and Hideo Minaba make you go all warm and fuzzy inside, then play this game. Now. (To the uninitiated, these two men are Final Fantasy veterans and GBF is their dream collab project).

So yes, expect lots of airships, stunning visuals and a god-tier soundtrack (you can even make your own airship crews and partake in an e-sports event held every few months called Guild Wars).

On a more serious note, if you want a jRPG that takes you back to the 'Golden Era of jRPGs' (aka the mid-late 90s) then check this beast out.

The main cast is lovable as hell, the Japanese voice work is stellar (the 'entire game' is voiced by well-known seiyuus and while there is no official English release, the script has been fully translated into English and the gameplay is great. The job class system puts FF5/FFT's to shame and new classes are added every few months, the most recent one being the Mechanic.

But!

Be prepared to grind.

A LOT.

And it is a gacha-game, so be prepared to either be F2P (free-to-play) or P2W (Pay to Win or Pay to Waifu).

I used to think Yiazmat from FF12 had a lot of health. Until I came across THIS guy.

Proto Bahamut.

240 million HP... He's using Skyfall, which deals 9,999,999 Dark damage to everyone. But there's a damage cut taking effect there (97% if I worked it out) and still dealt INSANE damage. Luckily I had a revive on hand.

That 30/30 denotes how many REAL-time players are in the raid, including myself.
Raids have a time limit of 90 minutes, but everyone destroyed Proto Bahamut in 5 minutes flat (mainly high-level Light-Lords).

It really needs to be played to be believed. So epixy. And the music is godly. But I wouldn't expect anything less from Uematsu himself.

Also, if I were a dude, Kat would be my waifu. But I've got a serious girl-crush on her. I found my Tristian, Addit. And her name is Katalina.

also, I'm sorry about the Makscore ><

unity, if you're still into yuri, Kat has you covered. >:D (actually, all three of the girls in my water-team significant others are female)

So, if you're interested, I can get you all set-up. ^^

Oh, and it has a PS4 A-RPG in the works developed by none other than Platinum Games. A trailer was shown during Granfest (yes, the game is so huge in Japan it even got two days just dedicated to showing off new stuff...) and it looks bonkers.

Ahem. Expect the same level of enthusiasm when I start my gam-mak again. But I needed to spread the love. GBF is going to have a fantastic 2018. I can feel it in my bones.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Thinking of continuing a silly MV project I made for the MV Olympics ages ago titled 'Cookie Cutter Heroes', where a motley crew of 20-somethings try to stop a choc-chip cookie loving orc from turning everyone into his personal munchies. While most, if not all my previous projects have been pretty serious, doing something small and daft would be a nice foray into finally using MV as an engine. Besides, the super deformed chibis suit a comedic game quite well.

And because Yanfly (bless him, also happens to be a complete pro at Granblue) has made so many plug-ins, all I need to do is choose an interesting mechanic and build the game, story and characters around it.

I'm back (with a new game, I guess)

Thanks guys. I'll admit, I feel like a new member again, despite joining this site back in 2009.

It's going to take me a while to get back into the swing of things though. Like blog-writing and probably creating more resources. And posting in that Screenshot thread, haha.

I need a new project to chase now, and will probably start using MV (it's about time). Been using VX for all my completed games since late 2010, but I think its time to hang up the old maker's shoes for good. And MV has enormous potential.

Maybe my next project will be something silly, a jRPG inspired by early 90s titles. Without the teenage protag.

But we'll see from here!

I'm back (with a new game, I guess)

I've been gone for a long time, I know (haven't visited this site for more than a year) but I probably need to get something off my chest. I probably hurt a lot of people here with my last game (Tristian) and I debated for a long time
whether to come back or not. So first and foremost, I apologise. I don't expect anyone to forgive me for what I did back then, but all I want to do is just... make games again. It's been eating away at me for so long and I just couldn't stay away anymore.

I had to come back.

I can never really go back to working on Lady of the Lion because it just has too many bad memories. Just thinking about it nowadays leaves me depressed. I also left the Fire Emblem fandom back in July and because LoTL takes so much inspiration from that series, I feel it is just best to leave the game dead.

After a year-long sabbatical of doing other things, like trying to improve my art, becoming obsessed with Granblue Fantasy (a mobile gacha game that is considerably better than FEH or even FG/O) and just generally taking a break from... gam-mak. Playing GBF also re-ignited my love for the jRPG genre and love of game-making in general.

I saw the IGMC 2017 and, just for the hell of it, decided to enter it on a whim. I wanted to get out of a rut and just start making games again, because I've always loved doing it. I just lost my way, I guess. But I realised I could do no other hobby and feel as truly happy as creating jRPGs, for it is the only hobby where I can combine art, writing and gameplay into one cohesive whole.

My IGMC entry was called Icebound and placed 15th in the Judge's Choice. I'll probably make a game page at some point in the future.

I suppose this image or scene from Granblue can best sum up my feelings.

That, and my avatar. Lots and lots of regret.

But I'm back.

out the door

Maybe I should come clean once and for all. While the freeware version of Tristian has been cancelled, I intend to turn it into a commercial project with the help of some of the game's more loyal supporters ( aka the ones who still intended to stay in contact via a simple e-mail ).

I wanted to keep it under wraps for a while, but with so much resentment boiling up at the cancellation of this project, I'd rather admit it sooner than later. It's the price I had to pay for the project becoming so popular. Hundreds of RPGMaker
games get cancelled over the course of a year and no-one bats an eyelid...

So in the long run, this will probably become a win-win situation for everyone. The game gets completed, I have a burden lifted off my shoulders and 1000s more have another game to play.

However, I do not intend to update the game on RMN anymore. It's simply changed too much for my liking. And I wasn't talking about my own games getting attention. It's the complete lack of attention that other projects get that makes my blood boil, while the circle-jerkers stuff keep rising to the top ( hint: two of them have already posted in this thread ).

So what're you going to do with everything I put together for Tristian?

Your work won't go to waste, Dy... You've simply put in too much time and effort into the plot for me to throw it all away, and that's one of the reasons that made me reconsider developing LoTL as a commercial game. So thank you. Had I gone it alone, I wouldn't have felt so darn guilty.

I feel a bit better writing all that now.

Going, Going, Gone

Since I can't find the words to describe how I really feel, I'll just leave a link to an excellent blog over at LifeHack ( a great site, really ).

http://www.lifehack.org/445063/8-seeming-weaknesses-of-creative-people-that-are-actually-their-strengths

The 'Changing their Minds too Often', 'Becoming Bored Easily', 'Dreaming Big' and 'Making Lots of Mistakes' pretty much summed up what I was going through when developing LoTL. nhubi once called me whimsical. I can see where she was coming from now...

My mind's always busy. I always have 100s of ideas that never get executed ( and not all of them are game-related ). I'm always thinking of ways to make extra money, thinking up ways of trying to channel my creativity into an outlet other than gam-dev etc. etc.

Still, to everyone who has supported this game from Day One, all I can say is, thank you. I know I may have disappointed some of you ( if not all of you ) for putting the lid on this thing, but one day, whether it's in a a month, year or five, I'll come back to this. Maybe I'll do a BadLuck.

You never know.
