AVEE'S PROFILE
Avee
5794
I started to design games at age 5, drawing maps and sprites with felt pens and paper. Then I began writing stories and game scenarios. I've been working with Rpg Maker 2000 and 2003 mostly, as soon as they came out.
I favor RPGs, Action RPGs and Fighting games. My favorite styles are Fantasy, Horror and anything dark or gothic. I also appreciate cute and funny content.
I make a lot of pixel art and some digital art (concept, promo, fanart, etc.)
I also compose 8-bit music.
Don't be shy and send me a message if you want to commission my work ;)

Stats are for Sissies: Alternatives to Traditional Growth Mechanics
Ok I think I get it.
I don't see why such a system wouldn't work, as long as the designer makes sure everything is well-explained and understandable to the players.
Having a large amount of traits to deal with would probably feel like a deeper kind of customization, more complex in a good way.
I'm neither pro nor con. I think both systems can be interesting.

Collect your stats in October, or you’ll always be sober.
A new combat strategy (cutting off heads, making limbs useless)
Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria did this pretty well too.
Each body part (arms, legs, head, tail, torso, etc.) could drop a different item when broken. It was really fun to attack from different angles to get all the stuff.

I use percentages all the time.
But even if you use percentages to alter damage and stuff, you still have to base all calculi on fix numbers. As a designer you cannot do otherwise when programming.
And if you're going to use percentages only, players should still be able to see what are the base values, like having 12 in Strength for instance, otherwise they cannot keep track of how powerful they are and might make blind decisions during the game.

Guess that game!
My Friend's Music.
I think some of the movements could be rewritten and improved a little bit, and the combination of the guitar and synth sounds sometimes feel awkward together, but otherwise I believe it's a pretty good start.
Maybe some more and better-defined emotion could be added too. That will come with experimenting and listening to other music for inspiration.

On the Subject of Hating
But stop there without taking that extra step to actual critical analysis, and I think that we might deprive ourselves of conversation that might arise by taking these works on their own merits rather than arguing for pages and pages over their relative "worth."
That is so true.
Unfortunately, I don't believe most gamers want to think about games further than for a self entertainment purpose, and they rather enjoy evaluating them. Critical analysis is closer to working than playing or expressing one's appreciation. It requires effort and a certain amount of objectivity, and not a lot of people take pleasure in it or are capable of putting their emotional involvement aside to allow analytic thinking.
And I believe that hate is a waste of time and energy, especially when expressed in the trivial world of the Internet.
