AVEE'S PROFILE

I started to design games at age 5, drawing maps and sprites with felt pens and paper. Then I began writing stories and game scenarios. I've been working with Rpg Maker 2000 and 2003 mostly, as soon as they came out.
I favor RPGs, Action RPGs and Fighting games. My favorite styles are Fantasy, Horror and anything dark or gothic. I also appreciate cute and funny content.
I make a lot of pixel art and some digital art (concept, promo, fanart, etc.)
I also compose 8-bit music.
Don't be shy and send me a message if you want to commission my work ;)

Inhuman Resources
Throwing some ideas about reusing enemies... aside from recolors you could use slightly edited versions.
For instance: add armor pieces and/or a bigger sword to the Goblin enemy to create a "Goblin Chieftain" or something like that. Have another version be a "Goblin Defender" who buffs the enemy party and wields a big shield.
Zombie versions or elemental versions of enemies could also be edited and not just recolored.

Let me reiterate that I'm interested in working on characters and battle characters for starters. I've worked with the FFV style before and feel confident about this. I would require the former assets used as reference and/or a physical description of each asset/class.
Like I said earlier I can start working on a few of them to help you decide whether you want to hire me or not.
I could also eventually handle or help with battle weapons, enemies, battle backgrounds, tilesets and panoramas. We can see about that later.
However, as Luiishu mentioned, it's important that every artist work with the same palette of 256 colors to make sure we respect the 16-bit theme. That palette might have to be built over time as more and more assets are completed.
If only one artist begins to work, they could share their palette later when a second or more artists join in. Or the designer could create a palette right now and send it to all artists. Either solution is fine.

Let's break the silence. This game is almost finished.

The download link leads to a URL shortener and you gotta disable your adblocks, click a bunch of times to access the actual download, etc... Is that allowed here?
I need a hero!
Ah, so basically, everything has to be worked on, right? :P
I'm mostly experienced with character sprites so I could start with those. I could also take on battlers and enemies later... we'll see how things go.
You can send me the original sprites and/or a list of the characters you need and the edits that must be made. The more detailed information you give me, the better my work can reflect your vision. So any additional references or links you can send me will help.
We can begin with a small batch of character sprites to make sure that my work will be satisfactory. I won't require payment if you don't pick me as an artist after the first batch is finished.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions (preferably through private mail).

...unless an artist would be willing to work now and get paid later?
If the work load is not too huge, I'm interested :)
You can send me the details via PM.
What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Also bought Wario Land:SML2 for Gameboy. It's fun! Much more interesting than I thought possible for its age.
It is! I have very fond memories of playing that game. The rabbit hat is awesome. And I remember that there are several secret areas and stages to find.

If you can actually explain why it's different pressing the buttons yourself on these most basic of games, then I'm all ears.
I agree with you that watching or reading is usually enough to learn about something, but a huge chunk of that knowledge might remain deep in our subconscious when we later sit down to work on our own games.
By playing the game and being more involved/active in the learning process, what one learns may be easier to remember later on. That principle is applied everyday in school (copying notes, solving problems by applying an already existing formula, etc.) and it works.
But that doesn't mean one has to complete 100% of a game in order to learn everything there is to know about its mechanics.
Have you played Final Fantasy I? Why not?
I first played the NES version in '91 or '92.
It was one of my first RPGs along with Dragon Warrior (DQ1) so both games became my first references when it comes to traditional RPGs.
FF1 introduced me to fantasy and DnD-like themes, elemental magic, classes, resource management, elves and dwarves, flying fortresses, etc.
Being a French-speaking 5 year-old, the game helped me start to learn English.
My older brothers gave me tips on the best spells to buy, the location of important treasure chests, the importance of setting the battle speed to max on the title screen :P
...Reading the manual, items lists and the bestiary that came with the game was also very useful and made me feel more invested in the game.
I played a lot as a kid and beat it a few times. I was lucky enough to encounter WarMech (Death Machine) the first time I walked through Tiamat's corridor.
I didn't get to play many other RPGs until '94 or '95, so FF1 was very enjoyable to me at the time.
I'd say that the original game's most frustrating flaws are:
-The high miss rate of your characters' attacks (but that becomes much less of a problem once you've gained a few levels and a couple of weapon upgrades).
-The large variation in power of enemies within a single dungeon.
-Being unable to delete magic spells and replace them.
-Having to buy one item at a time (quite annoying when you need 99 potions and antidotes)
-Having only one save slot.
Remakes fixed some of those issues of course. I enjoyed the GBA version years later and I think that version still holds up today, if only in terms of gameplay.
