I was considering making a new game that I didn't intend to ever actually finish for the vapor2k3wave achievement but I think I might submit a game page for my unfinished swapsies game sometime later today instead. Might as well contribute to this event somehow

And developers that have already had AI stuff accepted won't even be getting the basic courtesy of a warning before it's just unilaterally decided that they're violating a rule and will be one strike away from a ban. Even without that, this is just a terrible rule; poorly thought out and conceived, sweeping, and taking absolutely no consideration for what it's even doing.
I'm speaking on behalf of Liberty here so take this with a grain of salt, but it wasn't said that developers who already had AI art games on the site would be getting a strike towards a ban. I'm fairly sure you will only get strikes if you actively submit AI content from now on knowing that it is no longer allowed.

Edit: Also I can’t believe i have to resort to pointing out the obvious difference between rips and ai art but,
Rips - You’re taking assets from a corporation that isn’t going to suffer in any way because you made a final fantasy fangame
Ai art - You’re taking an amalgamation of the works of big and small independent artists alike, the latter of which will suffer as this poses the risk of putting them out of work, hurting their commissions, and overbloats the internet reducing their visibility

also i would not call your art "bad art" if the anatomy didn't look right or the shading was off. I would call ai art bad art because it's soulless and lazy. At least when you attempt to draw something yourself, you're doing it out of passion and creativity. Art isn't just about looking pretty.

It's also worth mentioning that the ethics of AI art has been a topic of discussion for a lot longer than before this decision was made. I'm sorry, but there's no way anyone put AI art in their game without having heard all the criticism of it from the artists protesting against it. If you chose to use AI generated assets regardless and now you're in a situation where your game might get denied, that's kind of on you.

Yeah, I think the rule is only applying to AI generated assets/writing and not things like AI upscaling, but I think it would be helpful if we could get some clarification on this. It might be a good idea to add a FAQ to the original post? There's two things I'd like answers to, personally:
1) Is the use of programmes such as ChatGPT allowed in instances where they are used for other purposes than writing? For example: Proofreading, generating names, helping develop ideas, etc...
2) Is AI generated content banned from non-game and non-resource parts of the site, such as forum posts?

It’s a shame there’s already some pushback against this, but I think it was the right decision at the end of the day. When it comes down to it, I’d rather have the artists who are anti-ai and create their own work on our side and in the community than people relying on ai generated works. Currently the site isn’t flooded with ai content, but it seems like a good preventative decision to ban it early on.
