How do teams work? If I've already done my own thing and someone wanted to recruit me to their project, would I have to back out of my own or would the site register as me being in two places at the same event?

Yeah you're more than welcome to join a team without backing out your own entry. It's not a competition so i don't care if people work on multiple submissions really

The talk about quality of the self made drawings kind of made me think that some people are afraid of getting bad reviewed and passed over because their art, right NOW, isn't good enough, or they use RTP, can't make their own music, or just didn't know the rabbit holes to go down to find free resources at the time of making their game. "Just do it yourself till you are better" is everyone's dream goal here I think, but they shouldn't have to keep quiet until they can be validated, right?

This is a great point I hadn't really thought of! I think the community has luckily largely moved on from leaving harshly critical reviews, and most of the criticism I see on lower scored reviews nowadays are more directed towards the game as a cohesive whole and not on the visual aspects specifically. Most of the community is also on the discord now, where we have channels specifically for feedback on WIPs, which is a good solution to "they shouldn't have to keep quiet until they can be validated" I think.
