Hi all !
I like 16-bits RPGs (especially action RPGs) where you feel the quest behind the lines of code. I also like strategy, puzzle solving, immersive stories, tabletop RPG and LARP.
I'm a hobbyist C programmer who likes to work on custom game mechanics. My very first project was a very basic map generator for Genesia, aka Ultimate Domain https://rpgmaker.net/users/Irog/locker/UltimateDomainWorld.zip
I also want to help developers polishing their projects with my player feedback. So I'll be happy to test your game !
See you around,
Irog

How do you make spells unique?
author=CrazeSorry, my bad. When does a post start to be considered as necroposting?
EDIT: HOLY NECROPOST BATMAN what were you doing, Irog.
How do you make spells unique?
I love to add terrain alteration effects to my spells. Ice creates walkable ice path on water and turn lava into stone. Fire spells burn wooden obstacles, evaporate water and melt ice (for example to destroy the ice bridge you made with the ice spell after you crossed the bridge).
You can also use other effects like wind that deflects arrows, set different cooldown times and travel speeds.

AI design
Recently, I noticed MinST appeared among the highly rated games on RMN front page. So played it. And to my surprise, I could predict the AI next moves although I didn't play it for more than a year.
Do you find the AI predictable?
If so, how could one make AI less predicable?

Indeed, projectile control is super fun to play with!
This year, I want to push Lya forward... and every time I read my code to refresh my mind how I built it, I experiment with new features.
If you want to test this experimental feature and attract or repel projectiles, including your own, create a file named "degamify.txt" in the "res" folder. Your feedback is most welcome.

Games with map/level editors
Stay away from the "new" HD release: it uses the unpatched early game engine and contains a lot of bugs. Look for Heroes of "Might and Magic 3 Complete" on abandonware sites for the original experience using the bug-free game engine.
Do you know any RPG Maker games that use/d video? (SPECIALLY RM2k/3 ones)
Aedemphia is a RPG Maker 2003 game that makes good use of videos to illustrate its narrative.
Games with map/level editors
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 has a great map editor. It inspired me to develop a basic map editor in my strategy game MinST and I even reuse it's passability display convention in Lya's debug display.

What age range are the characters in your games?
MinST
This is a strategy game where there is no real characters, only medieval fighting units of undefined age most likely from 15 to 40 years old.
Wizard apprentice Lya
Lya: 18 years old
She just entered university and will go on an adventure from there. I now realize she perfectly matches Solitayre's observation about "heading out on their own for the first time".
Red balloon of happiness
Jim: 7 years old
He is a bit more complicated because he is a supporting character to give context to the player.
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
What really matters is that the player is old enough to have a 7 years old son.
