Castle Oblivion: Remake

Whoo Hoo!!!! I was seriously thinking this needed to be done, and now it is! Hopefully if all goes well, you'll then redo CO 2.

Edit: And still impressive mapping skills. Wish EB would consider hiring you for making the sample maps in their next maker.

2nd Edit: I don't have much time this weekend to play, so I spent the last hour running through it as quick as I can. Overall impression, very good. The writing is greatly improved over the original, and so is the mapping. Enemies are also fairly well balanced (outside of the flashback - more on that in a brief moment). It's amazing how much this feels like the first game, but being completely different.

Feedback time - I died (pretty hard) in the flashback. Maybe it was my reliance on using Starfall to hit all the enemies at once to ensure I'm not far behind in beating the clock. I was doing okay, though, until I hit the skeletons. With no items to restore HP or MP, I was slaughtered. Which got me thinking, if it's a flashback, and I'm telling the story, how is it even possible to die?

My thoughts on this: Provide the player with a few restorative items.

Otherwise, this is shaping up to be a very good remake.

Dragon Fantasy

You had no way of knowing the name would eventually backfire, and I always thought the name was a clever take on the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series.

I've often wondered if somebody came across your game, realized it was a free indie with commercial rips, and then felt they could make a game with their own resources, give it the same name, commercialize it, and then ride on the success of your own work; because I swear that prior to the DF commercial game, your games popped up every time the title was searched.

Dragon Fantasy

I just realized it's been just under a year since this had any noticeable traffic, and I fear the little gem will get lost in the shuffle with the Heroes of Tsufana and the DF1 remake.

I was initially planning to review this game, since I've only played it 3 times in the last 2 or 3 years (which now tops the replays I've done of my most beloved console rpg's), but I don't think I can say or do anything more that hasn't already been said or done, especially since the game is already one of the highest rated games here.

While I much prefer the Dragon Quest resources of the later installments, the combo of Final Fantasy tiles along with FF and DQ monsters and music work well together, and I was especially surprised that I never caught the Paradise Blue reference in my previous two playthroughs.

Silent Insanity 2

No part 1?

Necropolis

It's the curse of many great RPG Maker games. They become too ambitious and never make it to completion. Forever's End is another I doubt we'll see the completion of, not to mention the ever popular Line's End that would have completed A Blurred Line's story.

In this case, Jude had mentioned development on Necropolis was stopped so that they can make it a commercial game on another platform, but no idea if that's still happening or not.

This is also part of the reason I stopped playing demo games. I got a bit of flack for that at one point, because if everybody did the same where would new developers get their feedback, etc. But frankly, I'm tired of investing into really good RM games, getting excited for the final product, and then getting nothing.

Ruby Wolf

Definitely no way better to showcase the 20XX potential than to actually demo it through a game. Gonna give this one a go as soon as possible.

SaGa 4: Masters of the Demon World

This looks so sexy. I'm a gonna mark this down to download when I get home.

Noble Quest

After I defeat the Warden, I can't leave. It says the door has been opened and for my party to get out of there, and that's it, and my way back is blocked.

I'm assuming then that's where the current demo ends. Which is too bad, because I was really getting into it. Hopefully you are still working on this, because we need more games like it.

The Legend of Zelda: Courage, Power, and Wisdom

Not the best fan-based game in the world, but one that is still quite entertaining. Having played through a few other C-Division projects (as well as the highly exceptional SMB games), it's easy to see the flaws that creep up in this game. But that shouldn't stop people from giving this a go.

Once you get your head wrapped around a turn-based Zelda game, the AP system used for leveling up stats is pretty impressive, and would be nice to see it included in other games as well.

C-Division has done nothing but impress me with their professional quality when it comes to fan-games. Now... if only they could do us fans a jolly with a Chrono Trigger sequel, and keep it off SquarEnix's radar.

Lufia V: For the Savior

Excellent job with this! I spent most of my weekend playing through most of the demo, and the puzzles so far were very well thought out. Never impossible, but some were a tad frustrating, in a good, challenging sort of way.

Story-wise, I think this offers something fresh to the Lufia world. It did feel a tad rushed in parts, especially in the parts surrounding Ralke, but overall it's well done and in great step with the classic 16-bit games.

My only thought is that it may be a bit more beneficial to players if the Strong spell was available earlier in the game (in the first town).
