Exile's Journey
I actually used the Suikoden tilesets early on because I thought they would be the most attention-grabbing in screenshot threads and whatnot (this seemed true of many games of the time). I was wrong!
Thanks for the support!

Liberty, I enjoy that map very much. I personally love desert towns in games! I can't wait to see what it looks like populated; I imagine having plenty of NPC's in the area will help mask the repeating tiles concern that LockeZ had earlier.
I've got a few new screenshots today from a large autumn forest I designed. (I forgot how annoying forest canopies are to map after awhile!)

And for those interested, here's the map in full. I have a thing for very large maps, and this one is certainly no exception:

Please check out my game's page and subscribe if you like what you see!

Wait a minute, Kamau worked on Oddworld?
Here's his tumblr.

Funnily enough, he lists Legion Saga as one of the games he's worked on. Really cool that he hasn't forgotten his roots. He's also recently started using RPG Maker again for the first time in a decade.
Also, wow. He even worked on a Harry Potter game for the 360 as a level designer!
Fanciness and cut-off score
author=SgtMettoolauthor=KevincalanorEverlong and its recent mega-update is currently one of the most-discussed games on the site, and that's using a lot of stock assets and even still has a few rips in it. It's certainly not impossible.
A wild question appears though.
As front-page projects grow on awesomeness, featuring deep stories, innovative scripts and top-tier graphics. The RTP assets and that "keep calm, keep simple and finish it" theory starts to seem off-place and lack luster.
That game is still being updated?! Awesome!
I sometimes am discouraged when I see all of the awesome games on the front page, too. However, I truly believe that a game will get noticed if it's truly great even if it doesn't feature stunning artwork and jawdropping graphics. I believe that my game's strengths will be enough for it to hold its own. Plus, it seems that ultra large high fantasy epics aren't been made quite as often in the RPG Maker scene as they used to. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I believe there's still a market for it.
Old school RMers: what are some communities that you used to belong to that have ceased to exist?
And, hell, non-RMers too. For anyone who has been around since the heyday of message boards.
I've been reminiscing about my early days on the internet recently which gave me the idea for this thread. I got my start on a website called RPG Maker Database, the domain of which used to be rmdatabase.net. I think there may be one or two people here who used to browse that forum, as well. I recall my time there fondly and I still remember many of the users even though I haven't come across them since the site's downfall. I was around 12 when I browsed that place.
Of course, I also spent a lot of time on Gamingw.net but I wasn't much of an active contributer.
How about you guys?

Have you played Final Fantasy I? Why not?

Well, the real experience beacon was near the second town in the game where you could fight ZomBulls, Trolls, FrostWolfs, and Pedes; which rewarded enough exp and gold that you basically leveled-up every single battle.
But the hall of giants was a decent place to grind exp at the Earth Cave. You didn't have to walk like 11 steps to trigger a random encounter, and you were confronted with 4 Giants, so it was a good place to unload your best magic, collect some good exp, and not waste a lot of time wandering around seeking encounters. If you tried to beat the Earth fiend and died, and needed to grind exp, then this is where you would do it while you were ramping-up for the rematch.
And not to mention get money. Having enough money for spells can be difficult in that game depending on your party. Having to grind outside of Elfland to be able to afford anything is a pretty infamous part of the game.
