Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Working on the next game in Exile's Journey universe. I'm using RPG Maker MV. I am absolutely loving it so far. So far, I've found it possible to implement every ambitious feature I've planned. Things that would have taken tons and tons of work in RPG Maker 2003 are easy as pie to do now thanks to the fact that I can use code anytime.

For example, one big I problem I had in RPG Maker 2003 is that it's support for variable pointers was very limited. Obviously, this isn't the case in MV, because even if it's not an option in the events menu, I can just insert a code to reference any variable I want or store a text string. I am so looking forward to releasing more info about my next game.

The Featured Game Thread

Hate to be "that guy" who recommends his own game, but it would be cool if Exile's Journey could be spotlighted eventually. :-)

[Poll] Y - Axis = Normal Vs. Inverted

Always inverted for me. I think this comes from the fact that the first video games I played were for the Nintendo 64, and games for that console often have inverted Y axis by default.

Plus, it makes more sense in my mind. I play as if I'm controlling the character's head, not the cursor.

[RMMV] Only if I Remember on on KICKSTARTER

I agree that $4200 isn't necessarily a huge number. For example, if OP wanted custom graphics for his game, it might cost him a huge chunk of that money. Creating graphics takes a ton of work and time, so artists need to be compensated fairly.

However, as others mentioned, a breakdown of how the money will be used would be very helpful to those considering donating.

Prologue / Demo & New Teaser

I'm looking very much forward to playing this. It looks absolutely incredible. Every map feels very much alive. You definitely get a sense of what it would FEEL like to be there.

I often find myself making stuff of out of order, too. It happens a lot when I'm going tired of working on a particular section - I generally jump forward to work on something new for a while. In addition, I sometimes get an amazing idea for a map or dungeon and I want to start on it right away while it's fresh in my mind.

Would suikoden/exit fate style recruitment work if there all NPCS?

I think that would be cool. In that case, the recuitable characters are basically just collectibles that grant access to new features and resources. Would definitely work. They don't necessarily have to be playable. It's still a fun mechanic that provides an incentive to explore.

2020 gaming diary

I've been playing through Code Vein and I'm near the end. It's pretty fun and I do recommend it if you can find it for a good price. It's not nearly as great as Dark Souls - the level design is good but isn't quite there, and there isn't nearly the armor, enemy or weapon variety. I am still enjoying it quite a lot though and I would like to see a sequel.

Future games?

>Either a mechanic to battles that is unique to your game or some kind of skill system.

A very valid point! I do have plans to have much more elaborate skill systems and more unique battle mechanics in my future games. For this game, I kept things simple because I didn't want to end up canceling my game due to biting off more than I can chew. However, now that I know what I'm capable of achieving, I can plan for more intricate gameplay mechanics.

Future games?

There is so much I am proud of in Exile's Journey, but also a lot of I'd like to improve or expand upon, and some things I plan to change completely as well! But, while I work on my design documents and such, I'd like to hear some feedback from you as well.

Can you help me trace the origin of these REFMAP/FSM-style chipsets included in the expanded-RTP?

Those are all REFMAP chipsets. Absolutely nothing in them is ripped.
