Description

It's about time we had another review drive, so hey, let's do this!

Rules
- Write reviews for games that are hosted on the site (they must abide by current review standards).
- Only reviews added to the site over the course of the time period will count.
- There is no limitation to what kinds of games you review, though there is an extra badge if you review more than 5 non-reviewed games.

How to Submit

To enter and receive credit for this event, please do the following:
Step 1: Sign up for the event by clicking "Sign Up" at the top of the user list:

Step 2: Write your review(s), keeping in mind our submission rules. Please make the reviews as insightful and engaging as possible! A member of staff may proofread the review for minor spelling and grammatical faults or inconsistencies.

Step 3: Submit your review(s) to the appropriate game page(s).

Be sure to include your score (if any) and an appropriate title:

Step 4: Wait for the review to be approved. It may take up to a week. You might receive feedback on how to improve your review before approval. If the time elapses before your review is added, I (Liberty) will make a note as to which reviews are still in the queue and count them towards your total when they are accepted. (They must be of proper quality. Spamming the queue with shit/placeholder reviews will see them ignored.)

Step 5: Submit the approved review to this event page by clicking the "submit" button on the top-right corner of the page.

Step 6: Repeat for each qualified review. To receive credit, each review must be submitted to this page by the 1st of March deadline!

Achievements

Badges will be given based on the amount of reviews you complete. Each badge has a set amount necessary to unlock that badge and the more reviews you submit, the better MS you can get. You can gain more than one badge, too, with each badge giving a set amount of MS to add up.
The increments are as follows:

01 Review.. - 05 MS - Quina
03 Reviews - 15 MS - Quina + Eiko
06 Reviews - 25 MS - Quina + Eiko + Amarant
09 Reviews - 35 MS - Quina + Eiko + Amarant + Freya
12 Reviews - 45 MS - Quina + Eiko + Amarant + Freya + Steiner
15 Reviews - 55 MS - Quina + Eiko + Amarant + Freya + Steiner + Garnet
20 Reviews - 85 MS - Quina + Eiko + Amarant + Freya + Steiner + Garnet + Zidane

If 5 of those reviews are from games that didn't have a review BEFORE the event, then you will get a special Vivi badge worth 20 MS.
(If two people review the same reviewless game, they will both count as long as the game didn't have a review before the event officially began.)

Boy am I glad I asked for that extension, else I probably wouldn't make it at all (-_-;)

Well... I'm getting that Amarant, at the least.
if things go well

Edit: So my first entry's pending! Kinda feel bad that it's rather harsh, though...
Soooo... guess who just realised she has some IGMC games she didn't share her notes on?

The longest review I've ever written is pending right now. If nothing else, I'll at least get one achievement out of this. I'd like to grab a few more, but right now I'm a little exhausted...
@karins: Try not to feel too bad about negative/harsh/scathing reviews. Everyone who posts a game here is obviously wanting to design games, and you need the negative reviews as much as you need the positive. I'd only feel bad about a negative review if I didn't actually finish a game, because then I'd feel like I didn't give it enough of a shot (and not that many games on here are 80+ hour epics anyway).

I suppose the part about the length of most of the games on this site is true, but I've encountered games on this site that are impossible to win before. Sadly, my best example for this issue was taken down by RedWall10 a long time ago.
That's my major issue personally...I don't want to review games I don't finish, but isn't a review of 'this game pissed me off/is so terrible I couldn't finish/is a broken unplayable mess' a proper review as well? In the week since this started, I've also ran into 'so dull, uninspiring and blegh that when I died, I just closed it', but that feels like a cop out of a review.

I personally don't feel obligated to play the game through. I'm reviewing, not beta testing. If I like a game, I like it. If I don't, I don't. Maybe playing a quarter of a game isn't enough to catch all of the problems, but if there are problems that need to be addressed, they're going to crop up well within that time. And if you're playing garbage, who does the dev think he is if he expects you to keep wading through his crap? It's nonsense to think that game a that starts as garbage is going to progress into anything else. Likewise, if you're playing a game you love, and you keep loving it two hours in, barring any game breaking glitches you're going to miss later on (but again, I'm not beta testing), you still pretty much know all you need to.

Edit: I know my games are nothing special. If someone doesn't like them, I have no problem at all and welcome his or her opinion.

It's fine to review a game you didn't finish, but a developer might want to know where and when you quit, and why if there was a specific reason, especially if the game is still production.
^
Yup!

It's perfectly okay as long as you gave it a decent shot. I mean, if you booted to the title screen, then closed and wrote a review about that, of course that's stupid, but if you got in there and found issues, then write a review. If you're worried about the game not being completed or that you'll give a bad score, give it an N/A and the excuse that you think the person will work on what is necessary so in future versions it'll be better.

If it has a version number, then put that in the title/summary/opening. That makes it easier for future players to check and see if the broken mess has been updated at all or if they'll be stuck playing it if they try to download it.

My sentiments on the matter are pretty much everything pianotm and Liberty just mentioned. I don't think even professional game reviewers wait to play a game all the way through before writing something on it, especially if it's unplayable garbage. Granted, they're influenced by time-constraints, but the point is that you don't always need to play a game from start to finish to have an objective opinion on it.
In a perfect world, I play all the games through and try to get 100% before I attempt a review. But perfect worlds are disrupted by Zidane badges :(
Of course, my view may be a bit skewed by the fact that lately I've been on a tear to finish my huge backlog of games >.>

Well, I do agree that finishing a game before reviewing it is ideal, but it shouldn't be the rule. I used to stick to that too, and would freak out because I felt like I couldn't review a game if I didn't finish it or couldn't get past that one boss.

Then I learned how to not have any fucks to give, and that's how a reviewer has to be. It's the beta tester's job to care; not the reviewer's.

Craze
sowhat do you think this will get our % reviewed to!??!

Well...I doubt my personal reviews are going to make a big dent in the percentage, but every little bit helps, and with the exception of Shadowgate (which I couldn't resist), I've been specifically looking for unreviewed games; particularly old, forgotten ones.
Same, barring games I completed previously or on other platforms, I'm just searching by unrated/completed and knocking things out.

Edit: As a question, what is the etiquette for reviewing uncompleted games?
It's up to you, but my (kinda new-ish) general rule of thumb is:
- if it's abandoned or hasn't been updated in a long time or the creator hasn't been around (or they ask for a scored review), give it a score.
- if it's still being actively worked on give it N/A, but add an unofficial score so that they know what they would have gotten.
